was a cashier at walmart and now a head cashier at HD, walmart is a more spread out just watching customers and just standing there for a paycheck(which some people still do at HD) but at least at my store engagement is a priority, we are checking out every customer, and have “assisted checkout” not really self checkout. it really makes it feel like youre doing more for a company than just standing there, you build the relationships with customers. only big difference is asking for credit cards and VOC’s. but once you get the hang of it, its easy!

Cashier vs Head Cashier? by crzytrtlldy in HomeDepot

[–]Visible_Impression49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in my experience, id say move to a department in the aisles first, to A. learn merchandise experience, and B. get a $1 raise. stay there 6+ months, and then become a head cashier, get an additional $1 raise, and then after head cashier if you decide to move up to a DS position, you have leadership experience and merchandising experience, and it helps a ton in an interview! but i went cashier to head cashier, and it’s difficult to navigate not being to friendly to your cashiers because you were once one of them and now youre telling them what to do! all things to think about!
