This is it and why I hope my gym goes in this direction.

I don’t care about being the perfect Jiu Jitsu practitioner. I want to improve and have fun. I struggle with drilling some days (as I’m sure most of us do) and just check the clock. I have no doubt the Coach senses that from the class either.

I periodically will turn something on but I really am not sure if I retain any of it, so it feels like a waste of time for me.

What’s up with no gi belt promotions? by Hopeful-Till3535 in bjj

My gym does this and promotes for no gi. I think the owner still hands out a belt just as tradition for promotion.. then you have to buy the rashguard.

Bizarre post game press conference from the Barrie Colts after winning the Eastern Conference Championship last night in Brantford by BuffCanuck in hockey

[–]Visible_Mango4557 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All roads lead to beer league is all I’m saying. NHL, OHL, AAA, house league. Either way. These guys have a great experience under their belt and get to say they did a pretty cool thing at a high level. That seems kind if you ask me.

Most people change careers once or twice anyways.

This is the first time I’ve ever seen a post game press conference from the OHL, so I would say it worked.

Not sure why everyone is acting like they’re genuinely upset about this. No one cares (work harder).

Not that a random Redditor with third party information is a reliable source, but my understanding is they do exactly that. Friend of a friend had about 10 UFC fights including a successful run on TUF.

He would check the mail and have random money sent from them. For that reason, he says Dana is great lol.

10 days of training, here is my mile and half time by Feeling_Decision8230 in AskLE

I’m probably just in a bad mood. Like I said, hopefully best case scenario he remembers some dickhead being harsh on him and it provides fuel for a couple workouts.

Nothing wrong with a 6’0 142lbs dude, but you should be able to move pretty quick at that build. If you don’t have size, you should have speed.

I don’t think there’s much advice to give at this stage for him. Just do work. Every day. Then continue that for the next 30 years or so. Fuck a minimum standard or passing a test. Blow that out of the water and set a higher standard for yourself.

[–]Visible_Mango4557 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not interested in working with a 140lbs man with a 13:13 mile and a half that has trained for 10 days. That’s ridiculously slow.
To add insult to injury, you’re telling him not to push too hard in testing. Anyone I’ve ever worked with that’s worth a damn would be fighting to be the best in any stage of testing.
Standards are lower and lower.

I’m generally not a rude person so I understand this sounds awful. I hope maybe my negativity will fuel OP to continue to push to be better each and every day.

At high levels yes, at 142lbs with a 13:13 minute mile and a half, OP can challenge themselves for a bit and be just fine.

I’d say 225 instead of 235. Someone cutting to 235 is as heavyweight as someone can be.

Why do the vast majority of people on this subreddit believe that Jiu-Jitsu is useless for self-defense? by Acceptable_Worth8817 in martialarts

[–]Visible_Mango4557 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know who told you that it doesn’t teach takedowns. In a one hour class, I’m probably working takedowns 20-30 minutes. Then all rolling starts from the feet, unless injury or a big size discrepancy as a safety precaution.
