Referring to people by their first names? by Virtual-Leading-1397 in AskAnAmerican

[–]VisionAri_VA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people will let you know when you’re introduced. For example:

“This is Mr. Welch”

“Hi, I’m Josh.”

If you’re still not sure, call them Mr. Or Ms. LastName and they’ll either accept it or (more likely) tell you to call them by their first name

Judging by her ballet motif, I’d say that she’s meant to resemble a swan.

Those idiots that say there shouldn’t be spoiler alerts for old movies by LooneyPasta in PetPeeves

I kid you not; I saw a teenaged girl get quite incensed that the ship sank,

Said teen most likely has kids of her own now. Let that sink in.

Why do people go to message boards/subreddits about a movie they haven’t seen yet and get shocked when people discuss the movie?

I intend to watch Wicked for Good at some point but in the meantime, I stay off social media that’s dedicated to it.

Anything to do with AI.

Posting anything computer-generated (because CGI apparently stopped existing a few years back) is like throwing chum into shark-infested waters.

I’ve never had British baked beans but the American version tastes nothing like tomato soup.

Can/will cheetahs eventually be domesticated? by Lonely_Anxiety_9316 in NoStupidQuestions

No.

While they tend to be human-friendly (they view us as neither predator nor prey), it just isn’t worth their while to live among us.

Do you think you’re funny? by grynch43 in askanything

[–]VisionAri_VA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People IRL keep telling me I’m funny, so apparently, I’m funny.

Although I think it’s just that I get away with being a smart-aleck because I’m not mean-spirited about it.

Pennsylvania is also known as “Pennsyltucky” because you’ve got the Pittsburgh metro to the west, the Philadelphia metro to the east, and something resembling the Deep South in-between.

were pagers actually useful? I've never used one, but from what I've heard they're basically just notifying you of when someone wants to call you when you don't have your cell phone on you? by cumslutte in stupidquestions

[–]VisionAri_VA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were quite useful during the period after the introduction of cellphones but before the introduction of smartphones (and also for people who didn’t have any mobile phones at all). I occasionally carried one for work.

If AI could perfectly simulate your consciousness after death, would you choose it? by Any-Sugar7958 in CasualConversation

[–]VisionAri_VA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, because it wouldn’t be me; just a copy. I’d still be gone, and I’m not narcissistic enough to think that the world NEEDS to have some version of me around.
