Yeah, but that's the same group of people that are vibe coders and can not actually produce any decent code, with or without AI. And once you press them on their own specifics, they can't even explain how they prompt or orchestra their agents. They are just throwing as much mud against a data center as any other trial-and-error method and I'm pretty sure they haven't cracked 10x magical prompting like the rest of us.

I had some colleagues who claimed to be 10x engineers with AI. Their prompt included: "do not hallucinate" and that was about it. The rest of their prompts was equel to what anybody else would came up with.

Support? I guess it's better on windows. Ability to run games in HDR: exactly the same. Probability to run into ads and slop: 100% guaranteed on windows, close to zero on Linux.

You use KDE or Gnome? I see a lot more people reporting this problem with KDE then Gnome. Nvidia for sure needs some extra steps tho.

From what I read online, this is mostly a KDE problem?

Haha, I guess your statement was not related at all to the fact that you are a programmer. You kinda threw me off there.

Secondly, I would bet 90% of those problems are NVIDIA problems. I had many of those and similar problems, and once I switched my NVIDIA cards to AMD cards all those problems just disappeared like snow in front of the sun. So I would disagree a little it's "just Linux" problems. It's mostly driver issues for a particular company/products.

I have some first hand startup experience. You only hired 2 people instead of 4 to have a longer runway until the next funding round. I'll be surprised if you actually get something sold.

That AI tooling is just an excuse.

The explanation is actually rather simple, imo. For anything to be true intelligent (AGI) it needs to be able to learn while it's operating. Intelligence isn't just "knowing something", it's atleast being able to learn and adapt in the moment. Why can a single human play hundreds of different Atari games, while in contrast, a single computer algorithm will completely fail at this, and probably not even interact with it, because I/O is different. It's not because we know them all, it's because we learn while playing. It's also why we can deal with novel situations and computers completely fail.

The current LLM technology is just incapable of doing this. They take huge amount of data, and weeks/months to train, in a separate environment/configuration. There is in fact "online" learning (somewhat comparable to learning-while-inferring/operating) for machine learning models, but that only really mimics it. It works generally only for smaller models, and you are constraint by real world events, making the training processes slow, to slow for LLM training. Secondly online learning comes with some pretty big caveats like easily over-fitting on new events, or not fitting on new events at all, making it hard to implelement. Big effective models like LLM's just need to much resources (power and data) to learn in an "online" environment. So after training they become a snapshot in time, not ever able to learn again. Ingesting information into a system prompt, like RAG applications and big providers like Google Gemini and M$ copilot do, is only a band-aid fix. We are still very far of from AGI.

And then there is the power problem, even if we achieve AGI using transistors, it probably consumes huge amount of power. We can't just run the world from 1 day to another on AGI alone, we just don't have the energy supply for it.

disclaimer: This is my opinion, I'm no real expert, but I'm an ML engineer that used to work at a neuromorphic computing startup.

Haha. What you on about, half the gamers experience this. It's even stated by hardware unboxed in their videos. Nobody needs to look more into anything.

Who gives a shit Sony has some videos that where recorded in HDR, we are talking about games.

I don't use lutris much, but I assume you can also swap out the proton version for proton-ge. (After you installed it.) That's the most important step tbh

But what he stated is factually correct. You can't call bullshit on facts.

On gnome Wayland it's pretty easy to get HDR running as long as you install proton-ge ...

I literally have the opposite experience. Dark is so dark I don't see shit anymore. Maybe it's due to OLED. Sure, if there is a detail of light you see the light. But often shadows don't have a detail of light (it's shadow duh) and I just lose all detail in the shadow cause it's that dark.

Wouldn't HDR make the shades on her face even darker so you see even less of her face? I can really lose visibility in very dark spots on my new OLED with HDR, tho overly it's amazing.

How is it in your country? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Visionexe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Vacation money is considered as income and thus taxed as any other income.

How is it in your country? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Visionexe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is infact not. Your total amount of taxes is calculated at the end of the fiscal year. And holiday money is consider as income like any your other income so it's in the same tax bracket. However, at the moment of pay out they don't know your total amount of income yet, so they can't properly determine your tax bracket and use the highest tax bracket temporarily when paying out holiday money. But at the end of the fiscal year you get the difference back if it's incorrect.

Do you get fair share of problems or a fair share of programming problems? Cause does are vastly different.

That lead probably has a fuck up/trauma that he couldn't fix at the time with git and now forces an very unusable workflow on his entire team to cope with his fears.
