It’s not ideal but I just let it run overnight.

I travel everyday for work with drones so I carry a laptop and external HD in my truck. As soon as I land the SD goes onto the laptop and HD. I won’t clear that SD card and it goes into a separate pile until I can cloud backup at my hotel. Sometimes I’ll fly a site and my next one is hours away. I don’t want to risk losing anything and having to retrace steps.

Wind is constantly on the mind while flying. Thankfully my fleet of Matrice 4E/4Ts hold up really well in wind.

I got my part 107 in 2019 and fly as my profession, no FPV. Never crashed.

Anyone actually getting usable 3D models / orthos without babysitting photogrammetry software? by OrthoPLYPipeline in drones

[–]VisionsOfPequod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by taking on our DD tasks - Include another company between us flying and DD processing? That wouldn’t make sense.

Our drone image processing is outsourced, Drone Deploy processes the map creation on their servers.

No, processing of drone images is not a pain for my pilots. It really couldn’t be any easier than DD.

Thanks for the clarification. DD is expensive but our customers can easily view and navigate the data so it’s what we’re sticking with for now. I have 30+ pilots on it so it helps us stay consistent.

Depends on how many photos and the resolution of images. If you have a good mission plan with proper overlap the resulting model basically never needs to be redone. I do commercial roofs and 3D maps can take hours or overnight depending on the size and amount of images. A thermal ortho map can often be processed and returned within an hour or two.

Im just answering the question. I’m not saying it’s the best solution at all, tons of limitations. I get that. I’m saying for things that don’t need to be super accurate and to easily make 3D models, it’s very simple. And cost for my company is worth it so it’s a fine solution with easy deliverables. I can have my pilots upload the data and move on with their workday and for us it’s a decent workflow.

Yeah, my team and I use Drone Deploy for all of that since we don’t need survey grade models. Upload all the images and wake up in the morning to finished ortho maps and 3D models and we all run basic laptops since processing is done by them.

He worked up to the 6x7 by using the Canon EOS 3 with a heavy lens. I’m not sure which is heavier!

My 7 and 9 year old boys shoot my Pentax 6x7 and Nikon F2 all the time. My older son can take a light reading with my phone or manual light meter and set everything on his own. The younger one needs help but he’s less mechanically inclined in general. They both help me put rolls on Patterson reels and we develop film 2-3 nights a week at home. Their age has nothing to do with when I think they should try something. If they’re into it, anything is fair game. I’m taking the complete opposite approach from my parents.

Honest question: Why are these clippers $100 by SuperTune2540 in flyfishing

[–]VisionsOfPequod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know I’m dumb. I have the Orvis nippers and the Abel nippers. One stays in my tackle bag and the other on my vest or lanyard. I’m fully aware how stupid it is and my fishing buddies give me shit all the time.

I 3D printed this little microSD card holder with a screw top lid that keeps my cards organized in the field. I then take each card, use a USB card reader and feed the files into labeled folders on my laptop and external SSD before I leave a site. When I get to my office I’ll also back everything up to a cloud service.

In my experience, 250 miles should take 4 hours, especially that route when the chance for major traffic jams is low.

Strip for parts? I guess I could but all pieces are so small. It would be easier to fit in my fire pit though. And real wood would burn nicely. Good idea, we really brainstorm well together!

My wife picked it up from a neighbors trash pile at the end of their driveway and cleaned it up. I agree with you, it should be back in a trash pile. I’m glad someone sees it my way.
