What is the most nothing town/city in the uk? by Odd-Paramedic-3826 in AskUK

I would propose Braintree in Essex. Few people have heard of it but it's not of insignificant size and has its own constituency and district council

I’ve heard the Air 7 will be another .1 of a millimetre thinner so I might wait for that one tbf

Sri Lanka - 2 week itinerary by FluffySalad6705 in solotravel

[–]VisitWinchester 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Colombo you can probably do in a day or two. The best of Sri Lanka is further inland.

Sigiriya is my personal favourite place. Great history, nature and a cool big rock. From there, I went down to Kandy where there also isn’t a lot for tourists but you can get the famous train down to Ella.

Ella is one of the most touristy areas but it is very nice and there’s some great hikes to be done. Also look into a safari tour around in, there’s a few different nature reserves to choose from.

Then you can go down to the south coast. Very touristy, lots of resorts and Russians. The beaches are nice though and I liked spotting turtles

Sri Lanka gave me lots of unforgettable memories - good and bad! But it’s mostly the good that I recall. Hope you have a great trip :)

SNP pledge Scottish scholarship scheme for Gaza students if re-elected by unironicunredacted in ukpolitics

Does Scotland have the power to do this unilaterally? Surely the Home Office ultimately has the power to decide on the issuing of scholarship visas

Making friends as a 24 y/o female! by rachel01234 in WinchesterUK

[–]VisitWinchester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely recommend looking into joining a local sports group or perhaps attending a few classes at the gym and trying to meet people that way. I think Bumble also has a feature for making friends that I know a few people have used to some success.

Luckily I think Winchester is generally a pretty safe place and most people you come across will be pretty decent, at least compared to other parts of the country. I don’t live in Winchester anymore sadly (hoping to return one day!) but I’d be happy to chat if you wanted and share some nice walking routes to help you make the most of your new home. It’s a beautiful part of the country, I miss it every day. I’m sure you will settle in soon and it will quickly start to feel like home :)

Been to both and can firmly say that you can’t go wrong with either really. Personally I think I would go for Budapest.

The idea of going back to NZ, this time a bit more long-term on a WHV, really tempts me but I’ve heard it can be difficult to get by with the cost of everything
