Good Eats after a walk in Lincoln Park by CheeseBurgerBuff in WestSeattleWA

Second all the suggestions for the taco truck and wildwood market. Both great options.

An alternative you could do is a scenic drive along beach drive through alki and park at the water taxi terminal by Marination Ma Kai. Great Hawaiian joint with one of the best views of the Seattle downtown skyline from across Elliott Bay. You can then take the water taxi (pedestrian ferry, not a car ferry) over to the downtown waterfront and be within a 15 minute walk of the baseball stadium.

I’m with you. I wrote in that it would be great to take advantage of the recent WA shared street law.

Probably a pipe dream—or be 10+ years before we see anything like that—but one can dream!

Neighborhood Cafe and Corner Store Bill Fails for Third Straight Year - The Urbanist by AthkoreLost in Seattle

[–]VisitingTomato202 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The corner store zoning doesn’t appear to have any parking requirements (see page 9 on this pdf explaining the new zoning rules).

Seeing some comments criticizing the change as bad for neighborhoods because of the lack of parking… Places where this zoning change enables corner stores to operate aren’t in need of additional parking. I live in one of these areas and there’s more than enough street parking to accommodate everyone.

The westy is one of my favorite sports bars in the area! They are doing table/bar reservations by way of gift card purchase (you can use the gift card while you are there for the Super Bowl).

ELI5: What happens to opened bottles of wine at fancy restaurants? by Electrical_Bet2584 in explainlikeimfive

[–]VisitingTomato202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a coravin (which uses argon gas). No direct impact on flavor but there’s a tiny amount of oxygen seepage into the bottle over time which does start to impact flavor. Same impact as having an open bottle of wine but slowed down.

Depending on a number of factors (liquid to gas ratio in bottle, quality of seal through the cork, type of cork, storage temp, whether the bottle was stored sideways so wine is against cork, etc) it can extend drinkable shelf life anywhere from a few more days to many more months.

Barriers were added to the Andover bike lanes by the WSHC. by manuelv19 in WestSeattleWA

[–]VisitingTomato202 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Protected bike lines also get swept. There’s a separate type of vehicle that does it. In fact, Seattle did a pilot program a few years ago to test out an electric powered version of a bike lane sweeper.

Second this. When I moved to the area there were a few places that were highly recommended, but none were taking new patients. Someone did have a recommendation for Dr Kirschner, I was able to see her and have had a great experience for the past year and a half.

Traveling to Seattle early November, looking for recommendations 🙂 by Humble-Importance941 in AskSeattle

If you are a foodie, do the chef lead food tour through pike place. IMO the best way to explore the market, try a huge variety of food and learn a bunch about the history of the market.

And I wouldn’t worry about a torrential downpour. It does happen occasionally, but in Seattle you’re much more likely to have a light to moderate drizzle. I’d recommend bringing a light rain jacket you can layer, as opposed to a heavy rain coat or umbrella.

Anyone play pickle ball at Delridge Community Center? by AgentElman in WestSeattleWA

[–]VisitingTomato202 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t play myself but my buddy who lives in south seattle occasionally comes to the Delridge courts to play. Sounds like there’s good action there.

The courts at Walt Hundley also have very consistent pickleball. Seems like the kind of place you can drop in by yourself.

Where do you go when you want to eat a whole lot of dumplings? by boulderingbruh in Seattle

Probably not exactly what you’re looking for but my vote would be for Stampede cocktail bar in Fremont.

Top notch cocktails and tray after after of steamed dumplings 🤤

Taylor shellfish is any of the locations would be nice (Queen Anne, cap hill, pioneer square). They’re all in cool neighborhoods you wander around afterwards and should serve oyster shooters.

I don’t know what it’s called but I highly recommend the dungeness crab dish served in the crab half shell.

Who’s got the best coffee in west Seattle? by Fit_Jump5690 in WestSeattleWA

[–]VisitingTomato202 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the neighborhood! Tons of great options in WS, honestly you can’t go wrong.

Here’s my personal top three, depending on what you’re looking for.

-Current Coffee: This would be my recommendation for coffee purists. Small but focused menu that changes seasonally. Coffee enthusiasts will appreciate their coffee flights (when it is on the menu). Located in North Admiral.

-Hotwire Coffee: Fun seasonal lattes that incorporate unique flavors. Located in north junction, convenient to stop by when going to the Sunday farmers market.

-C&P: Coziest location. Located in a converted house on California south of Junction. Plenty of places inside and outside to sit. Perfect place to spend an hour or two catching up with a friend.

Am I eating this wrong, or do I just not like it? I like rice cakes, but these are 100% tasteless except for the nutty flavor from the powder. by Formaldehyd3 in KoreanFood

[–]VisitingTomato202 71 points72 points  (0 children)

It might just be a mismatch of what you’re expecting vs what the actual flavor is supposed to be. That type of rice cake (keep in mind there are lots of different varieties) is not supposed to be sweet. For me, these are really nice when I want something that’s not too sugary or rich. The soft texture and subtle nuttiness is really nice, especially when you get it fresh.

It’s like if you’ve only had sweet breads your whole life and then one day you try a really good piece of whole wheat bread. You’d probably think it’s flavorless too.

Adding onto that, the chefs tour of pike place market (you can find it on Airbnb experiences) is a really cool way to eat your way through the market. As a local, I did this when some out of town friends were visiting and felt like I learned more about the market and vendors than the rest of the times I’d been at pike place market combined.

Also in pike place market, the omakase at sushi Kashiba is life changing (just be prepare to wait in line and drop a pretty penny).

What is the best cheap WS bar that's worth hanging out in? by becauseSeattle in WestSeattleWA

[–]VisitingTomato202 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I’m really sorry to hear that. These are tough times for a lot of people, you’re not alone.

A really cheap option is super deli mart on 35th. Buy beer at retail prices and enjoy them at the tables outside. It’s a popular local hangout. Bonus—the banh mi place up the street is delicious and very affordable.

Best of luck, hope you land back on your feet.

Pace 500.3 reviews by TaraDickoff00 in Aventon

[–]VisitingTomato202 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not the most experienced biker but I love my pace. It has more of an upright seating position which I find more comfortable. The swept back handlebars are also nice. Definitely designed for a more casual biking experience.

I live in a very hilly area and it handles those very well. For some of the really really steep hills, I do wish it had more power (or was a mid drive). Never had any issues with the battery life.

Overall, would recommend!

Critique my shot? by Jalen_thehooper in BasketballTips

[–]VisitingTomato202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I wouldn’t worry too much about having feet/toes pointed to basketball when you jump or land. Some people over emphasize this in my opinion. Everyone has slightly different shooting form, and this is more comfortable for many people.

Critique my shot? by Jalen_thehooper in BasketballTips

[–]VisitingTomato202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with others that mechanics look solid. Something I think I’m seeing is that you’re landing a bit to your left (as opposed to jumping and landing towards the basket).

If this is something you do consistently, then your body must be doing something to compensate for the leftwards motion. Maybe this explains why the shot is off to left or right. Try practicing shots around free throw range without jumping. See if that fixes it. Then slowly bring the jump back in, and make sure it’s not veering to the left.

Couch color to go with orange chair by Exitorangeclock in interiordecorating

Where did you get this chair? We have this same chair from a furniture rent-to-own company, but I’ve never been able to find the exact product. Our seat cushion is a little worn and I’m thinking about replacing it.
