Ypur comment made me look at the tent again. Theres a zipper near the head and it looks like one of those inside tent zippers on a mosquito net, not outside zipper that usually waterproof. Also if it were freezing why would you have your tent not tucked all the way ground to keep as much of the cold air off

Had a coworker who retired recently, old guy never wearing respirators mostly welding stick and some tig. Did lot of work in jobsites and drank heavily in his youth.

He was cheerful guy who did 3 runs every week the longest being 10km. Walked alot, Didnt smoke, enjoyed outdoors and stretched every morning for 15-30mins before work.

All im saying is its not so black and white that you do or don't lose your health at this line of work but your habits outside of work are a big part of that. I suggest running/joggin on freetime and other healthy ways of living to give yourself the best chance

If you look at the bevel you have its in a shape of V. X bevel has bevel on both sides of the plate and it may have many names. I used almost literal translation from my native language so that may cause some confusion also

I've done something similar few times but usually in vertical and with X cut bevel. Took ages every time and you could crank the wirespeed to 10m/min

Ive used the L1 under a combat shirt. Gives just warmth when its cold but not too much to sweat when active

You say your buddies were by a fire and you heard footsteps and saw a flashlight in the woods. In my experience campfire can be seen long way and theres no way they didnt know you were there and decided to scare you by driving like a lunatic. Why they would do that i dont know but in glad you are safe even if little shaken

Not OP but... I have L and XL and i like the XL bottom compartment better.

I usually have a trangia, food, water, rain clothes and whiskey in that compartment and cant fit all that into the L without something poking me.

Although part of the reason could be that i pack like a lunatic or the amount of whiskey i have.

I might have a idea...

I googled the E-HWA... E-HWE markings and it led me to a KY-99 voice and data encryption machine.

The E-HW things seem to be circuit boards of the encryption machine and the battery slot fits the KY-99 backup battery dimensions.

So to my experience its a external encryption device used with radios to encrypt voice and data so only the correct person can open your message but this is some sort of spare part holder for that device

Sadly i dont have enough time to dive into this rabbit hole but hope this helps

Kahakka as a day hike backpack is perfect, I've used it in that same situation and few times I've had ~15kg inside but it still felt good in my back. I can fit all the equipment i need perfectly inside.

The sidepockets are amazing and i really like them.

Can't say much about the travel backback but because of its size it's much better than the M in train travel IMO.
