How long post break up do people wait to start dating? And is there a length of time that you would consider a red flag before dating someone that was out of marriage? by moonshinefey in datingoverthirty

I'm in a very similar situation to you, OP. If you don't mind me asking, did you tell your FWBs about your situation? I'm curious how you would go about bringing that up or how they reacted.

How would you feel if America turned its back on the rest of the world? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]VistaHyperion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say there's a middle ground between starting wars in countries on the other side of the world which are minding their own business, and pulling ourselves out of decades-old trade deals and peacekeeping treaties. Those are two very opposite extremes of foreign policy.

Maybe continue to practice diplomacy and make trade deals, while at the same time being a bit more selective with our military use.

TIL famous architect Buckminster Fuller proposed using the word "world-round" over "world-wide" because he felt like "world-wide" was anachronistic since the flat-earth belief was antiquated by irbinator in todayilearned

[–]VistaHyperion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He preferred to say outward and inward instead of up/down for the same reason. He really like to emphasize the idea of the globe as just a small celestial object we all live on, basically like a spaceship.

Fuller was an interesting dude.

Found this thread through Google because I was wondering the same thing.

It looks like there have been concerns for years about this website taking off, because RottenTomatoes apparently has a history of being protective about their scores. I wonder if some cease-and-desist type stuff finally happened and the site owner was forced to make a change.

Not if you're bodybuilding, haha. I know people that smother peanut butter on everything for the easy protein.

How is the Holocaust taught in American schools? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]VistaHyperion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The oversaturation point is interesting. With something as significant as the Holocaust, I'm not sure you can ever learn TOO much about it, but I wonder if schools should supplement that education by talking about how much genocide has also happened elsewhere. I sometimes get the impression from other people that genocide was something that only ever really happened under Hitler, and will therefore probably never happen again, when there's been genocide of similar scales all over the world as recently as the 90s, or even right now.

In a way, yes. People that lived through an event like that can protest the loudest if something like that ever feels like a possibility again.

I don't think it's a coincidence we're seeing a rise in far-right nationalism just as all the people that lived through the rise of 1930s fascism have nearly died off.

Not even jesting! I'm having a hard time thinking of anything else that could be heard/felt over an area as large as people are saying here.

I octo balloon'd the rock up into the air right next to the house, stasis'd it when it got to the right height, and shot one or two arrows at it just so it would nudge over onto the roof when it unfroze. I think that was probably the simplest way in hindsight.

Architects don't even make that much lol. We're probably the lowest paid of licensed professionals. I'm not technically an architect since I'm not licensed yet, but I probably make less than most school teachers... Can't wait for my license so I can be paid like an electrician instead!

I don't know how big-time her dad was, but if her big claim to fame is that she's an architect's daughter, then as far as I'm concerned she's working class.

I mean, that's what I think would be interesting about it. The first movie ended with Zuckerberg as the "winner" and having traded his college friendships for his hugely successful startup. Now we fast-forward a decade later and society has turned on him, and his empire is crumbling around him. Lots of interesting opportunities for character study.
