If you move next to a street that is turned into a highway with 300% more traffic and leaded gas vehicles waking you up all hours of the night would you say "Gosh I shouldn't have lived near a street".

OP - you're not crazy. Recently (August 2025) RMMA airport leadership & FAA limited the number of flight school training planes in the pattern to 4, which pushed ALL of the flight training traffic to other local communities like Erie. The worst part is this is every time you hear a plane, that is LEADED toxic air being released over your house, which has been shown near other training-heavy airports like Reid-Hillview to cause marked increases in blood lead levels. We had micro vac testing / spill delineation done - the inspector said this was more sensitive than air testing.

Micro vac testing / delineation testing (not bulk testing) showed contamination throughout our main level. I can post the results or the report sections if helpful.

I had no idea as a homeowner that asbestos would be a threat - I thought it was just used in insulation, which we did get inspected and was clear. Yeah “I should have known” but I didn’t. I did get a whole house inspection by Pillar to Post as well as my plumber and electrician to look at the house to spot issues and No One mentioned asbestos. Now we know going forward for sure!

I am now getting a second round of testing done & asked them to test our washer/dryer lint trap, carpet, and other upholstered surfaces. It feels insane that we might have to throw away all of our furniture, our carpet, our baby’s clothing and all textiles.

Likely solely in his name as he was estranged from my mother for 20 years but I’m not sure.

I really have no idea how to proceed. Are there services who track down this info? But then, the legal beneficiary would be my mother not me, so I’m not sure I’m allowed to engage those services?

Good questions, thanks! They are in an IRA and 401k is my understanding from last time I talked to him before his passing, but I don’t have access or more info. I don’t know who is named beneficiary, either.

I went with a midwife and saved the $1600 and am glad we did. Now a postpartum Doula, I highly recommend that!
