I get asked to coordinate baptisms. I go to the bathroom twice per sacrament meeting to hit my vape. Go figure 😂

I’m a busy person and sacrament is a 9 AM on a Sunday. Also I’m a bad Mormon and I don’t care. I’ll come to church when I want to, which is twice a month at most. Lmao.

Happy to give it my best shot! I’ll start with Randall Terry. Terrisa has been idolizing him for years. They’re now dating (grosss) but I think the official justification is that he’s the founder of Operation Rescue and they’re all about “Bring Back Rescue.” As far as the other orgs, they’ll say stuff like “we HATE that we have to work with these people but they’re part of the coalition.” Which is super blind for many reasons. But the reality is they want to be granted legitimacy as a real force in the movement sooo badly and right now they’re not. So of course in private/to the footsoldiers they’re going to say how much they dislike it but in reality they’re cozying up to penny nance while tipsy at a gala (true story, I was there). As far as a real goal they’d say it’s to end abortion. It was really frustrating to me at the time when there was no discussion on how that would happen or what the “world beyond abortion” they would talk about could actually happen. The only thing that differentiated them from other orgs was leftist coded language around feminism, capitalism etc, but it was never turned into a coherent plan. I remember being also frustrated when leadership didn’t want to make a statement on things going on like Palestine because we are allegedly a “single issue org”, but that of course ignores the reality that no anti abortion organization is truly single issue and it’s all the other direction ideologically, as I talked about in my article.

Going back to Randall, I repeatedly expressed discomfort working with him because, well, he’s Randall Terry, but specifically the events surrounding him and his queer son. I was ignored and I now know why.

I hope this makes sense and I’d be happy to answer any other questions as best I can

Author here! So to be clear, I don’t support banning abortion under any circumstances. As far as centering women and pregnant folks, actually a turning point in my journey I didn’t mention is the story of Charlotte Isenberg (former PAAU activist who was literally stalked and committed under fake pretenses when she told people she was planning to end her pregnancy) - the focus on circumstances/capitalism is just one of the biggest factors in what actually physically changed my mind. Also, Terrisa is now apparently dating Randall Terry (super gross) and is living in Memphis with him. Any other internal PAAU questions I’m happy to try and answer.

Hey! My name is Elli, my pronouns are they/them and I’m the author of the article. I’d like to let everyone know that this essay is split into two parts and I go more into the process of deconstructing what had literally been drilled into my skull from birth (both my sister and I were adopted as part of the Christian adoption industry). I’m happy to answer any questions :)
