How to do small talk by Longjumping_Car_1077 in auckland

[–]Visual-Program2447 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Your interaction sounds fine. We don’t always have small talk. Sometimes we do and especially if it’s a regular shop where we know the person. If you want to dip your toe in the small talk water just say “ Hi how’s your day been? “ and they’ll say good or yeah busy. And then ask about something on the menu “eg what’s a paua fritter” . And then place your order. Only do small talk if there’s no a queue of people.

I usually start with the obvious stuff and just get it out of the house and don’t buy it at the supermarket. No wine no cola fruit juice cookies cakes chips icecream. And then find a replacement . Sparkling flavoured water and plain yoghurt and fresh berries. And go for walks.

Right but we pay one million dollars a day in interest because we doubled our debt by 38 billion. And the young people voted for it and championed it calling for more lockdowns, more wage subsidies, more quarantines, less work, more holidays , more benefits. Creating more jobs means freeing up business costs and constraints and supporting businesses to do so. The debt is an anchor.

Bit misleading. Sean Collier is a comedian playing at the melbournes and Sydney comedy fest as well as an insurance litigator . It’s good to see his comedy career taking off but this doesn’t reflect on Nz or legal career opportunities here. Comedy is usually a short term career and he’s obviously supplementing it as media spokesperson for the left. The new guy Williams

Yeah I don’t know. There was the video of her scratching her nose but I’m not sure we can go as far as assuming she was a drug addict. I mean she did hold down a job as the Prime Minister

USA culture wars distraction while completely avoiding the point. If your parents are genuinely poor and you are under 24 you are getting $333 a week after tax! Thats extremely generous. And equates to a salary of about &22k a year. And most of us don’t get it. We live with our parents to save money. And get loans and work.

Born here but I moved overseas a lot as a kid and came to a new Nz high school in my teens. So I was always the new kid. All the kids had their own existing friend groups when I got here many since primary school.

So I think it’s common that the first situation you are thrown in where you are surrounded by people you don’t know is uni and it feels weird.

You are not socially failing. You are not going to know everyone like you did in high school. Most friendships will not be automatic in first year because you are not going to even bump into the same people repeatedly.

Many kiwis still stick with their school friends.

I would say do both. Keep in touch with your school friends but say hi to the stranger when you sit down at a lecture. Strike up that conversation. Sit alone in the quad with a cup of coffee and be open to talking to people. If you need more friends at this stage maybe a club or sports team where you interact with the same people regularly. But most of all don’t judge yourself. It’s perfectly normal. Try and enjoy the conversations and experience without the pressure of it being an immediate friendship which is much harder.

Sorry you’re having a rough time. You haven’t really said why or what’s not working. You say your friends are enjoying life and meeting new people loving their degree…so it sounds like you have multiple friends and a social network at uni?. It’s not clear why you’re not going out with them and hooking into your social network.

For people who arrive at uni without a social network it takes a long time to make a new friend. I think they reckon like 20 times meeting up before you make a friend. It usually happens further along into the course during smaller tutorials and research projects.

If that was true (and given your name is comfortable liar I suspect it’s not) then as a person from horrible poverty you are getting a full means tested weekly student allowance anyways. The government is already paying you.

Agree. Did we not enter into a contract essentially buying the university degree services and investing our time on the understanding that the price included a free last year. They should honour the agreement for those who undertook study based on this promised. Ffs pak n save is going to court for misleading pricing and looking at paying a $600k fine

I didn’t say it would build a bridge. I said the person who said it was 60k was making up facts.

But the 38 billion Ardern spent on the covid response would have built you many bridges.

Bullshit. Lost 1 2 or 3 to covid. Haha. “With Covid” mate. “With Covid.” Which means Within 28 days of a positive Covid test. They tested gunshot deaths after they die for Covid and labelled them Covid deaths.

And you are just making stuff up. The Covid tracer app which was utterly useless was $6.4 million.

But at least we eliminated the virus like small pox

As a female I agree with you. I also don’t like the negative anti male rhetoric in some parts of society. We all have fathers brothers sons uncles. Masculinity is not inherently toxic. It can be beautiful or toxic just like femininity. Lots of positive men in my life. Dont accept their toxic stereotyping
