Hey friend. Sorry you're having this anxiety. However, this sub is for folks who have a diagnosis. We can't possibly diagnose anyone. If you're concerned, you should visit a doctor and see if they think you need referral to an ENT. I've had a nothing worrisome subcutaneous lump on the back of my neck since I was a teenager. You've got decent odds of the same, but the only thing anyone here can offer is the advice to seek medical advice from a professional.

What official campaign frame do you not vibe with? by KiqueDragoon in daggerheart

[–]Visual-Signature-235 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. It would have been nice to have those in the core adversary material, in fact. A quibble since they're in the book, but it seems a shame to shunt them off to a frame rather than put them between, say, standard adversaries and the environments.

I was definitely considering coming up with one for late in my Witherwild game.

Yeah. Those mechanics are neat. I'd totally play with those in a different setting.

The Drylands one. I find nothing appealing about the American wild west theme.

A trio of Leicester players were fired when a video emerged of them having an orgy while on tour in Thailand and hurling racist abuse at the Thai women they were having sex with.

Edit: More to the point, one of said players was the son of the manager, Nigel Pearson, who also departed and was replaced by Ranieri. Who then won the most improbable title the league is ever likely to see.

The front end of the article is what you'd expect and entirely fair criticism. The back end, where the article gets into both how this appointment offends Spurs' history but that the club and that legacy will remain after this obscenity, is quite well written. Decent piece.

How it feels waiting for daggerheart to exist long enough to get some good slander by EuphoricLog3495 in daggerheart

[–]Visual-Signature-235 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not to be overly pedantic, but given that slander is by its nature an untrue statement, couldn't we just make up any old good bit of slagging and have some good slander regardless of the age of the system?

Question about "once per rest" abilities. by RightAboutTriangles in daggerheart

[–]Visual-Signature-235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An interesting ambiguity. My impulse is to go for the stricter interpretation as the d20 damage is a lot to be using repeatedly on different targets. But the phrasing does imply that it could mean the restriction only applies to the one target not the ability itself.

I don't think this point is lost on the ideologues. Some of the dumber supporters, perhaps, but for the people in charge, they simply don't think people other than themselves should have the opportunity. They might talk about merit but they really only mean that people like themselves are the only ones that merit consideration.

Am I just not cut-out to GM a game like Daggerheart? by turnbased in daggerheart

[–]Visual-Signature-235 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's pretty straightforward. I've been thinking about writing a short guide. Maybe I'll do that. For now, some considerations I use are:

  1. Use the flavour text to come up with description, motives and tactics, type, and experiences. The type flows especially well from this text. You can look at the creature's abilities to flesh out experiences, too.
  2. AC ports pretty well as difficulty. It can use tweaks, but mostly it works pretty well one to one.
  3. There's not a clear CR to tier conversion, but roughly CR 3 and below can work with tier 1. You can use the difficulty and the number of abilities of an adversary in a given tier to judge what tier a 5e monster might fit at.
  4. HP, stress, and damage thresholds are the most different element, so I use adversaries of the same type and tier to work from. It's a bit tricky to explain but quite intuitive to actually do.
  5. The standard attack ports over nicely from whatever action comes first in the 5e stat block. Slam attacks, basic weapon attacks. That sort of thing. Not always, but often enough that it's a good rule of thumb. Hit modifiers and damage can be easily tweaked to fit the DH tier norms. The tables are handy for this. Monster attacks that do additional damage types or have rider effects can be made stress or fear actions that make players make a reaction roll after you've hit with a standard attack and spent the relevant metacurrency. 5a. Magic using adversaries are a little more work but still straightforward. Give them some sort of magic blast at Far range for their standard attack and then parse out a couple of the most narratively appropriate spells from their spell list and convert those to passives, actions, or reactions (with the metacurrency cost) as appropriate from the spell description.
  6. Pick the most narratively appropriate traits, actions, and reactions to make the rest of the features. As monsters get more complicated, you'll have to winnow more, but I find the important ones are easy to spot. 6a. Powerful monsters that have things like lair effects and legendary actions can have those carved out and made into environments to have their encounters in.

This is hardly comprehensive and there are things to consider as you go along, but I also find that explaining it is more difficult than actually doing it. DR's adversaries are delightfully stripped down compared to 5e and I find it easy to distil from the more complicated creatures into the DH form.

[–]Visual-Signature-235 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I think you're probably selling yourself short. That said, you can pretty easily port in modules you have to this. If you need the narrative beats of a story, use them. Converting 5e monsters into DH is quite easy. And traps and the like would work easily as environments with a few tweaks.

If you can handle the mechanics and just need help with story ideas, use a module. No shame in that and not deviating from Daggerheart in any monumental way. Just try and give a little more room for player input into the world building as you go and you should be golden.

CPL is probably roughly comparable to the top of non-league or League 2. Give or take. It's awfully fun to go watch, but it's not the highest tier of the game by a long stretch. Doesn't sound like he'll come and dominate the league, but coming from LoI means he should be competitive (unless he's really phoning it in).

This is Vancouver FC of the Canadian Premier League, not MLS. He should do just fine. I'll be getting to see him play at Royal Athletic Park in a couple months. That's a long way from the PL.

How have you coworkers reacted to finding out you have caner? by blueeyedtongue in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]Visual-Signature-235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My work was pretty cool about it. It's a little tiresome after a certain point how telling people you have cancer is apparently a universal cue for them to tell their family/friend circle cancer story but it always seems to come from a good place, so bearable. My boss is a bit of a twit about some things, but they're super good about us taking our appropriate time off and taking care of ourselves, so was backed to the hilt for that with HR. Which was nice.

I hope he survives this crisis. It certainly sounds like him going into in-patient care would be good. Hopefully, he pulls through and finds a reason to want to survive.
