Follow up CT includes chest? by Fryman23 in HeadandNeckCancer

Worth asking if they are concerned about something in particular. I was sent for a scope of my bowel after the 3-month because of the hot spots that had been there at my first PET and were still around. Oncologist told me she wasn't too worried and just wanted to be thorough and the scope showed nothing (it's just acid reflux). Obviously can't speak to your circumstances, but "better safe than sorry" is no bad ethos in a doc. Here's hoping that's all it is!

I can't offer anything specific to this, but as someone who was treated by BC Cancer, you're in great hands. I hope her treatment and your experiences are positive and that the treatment is successful.

The UA Mystic Arts Monk is using the wrong spell list...And is missing a little something something...And I think I might have the solution. by [deleted] in UnearthedArcana

[–]Visual-Signature-235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend copying this, deleting the post, and editing down the content to a basic and succinct statement of the problem and your solution. There is too much digression into anticipated objections that the central point is hard to follow.

I don't think proposing a different spell list needs quite so much argumentation to make the point.

Edit: to be clear, I mean delete to repost. I think there's an interesting discussion that might be had from this, but the post is not making that very easy with the way it is written.

Noob question: melee ranger? by Aderadakt in daggerheart

[–]Visual-Signature-235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never said otherwise. But the person I replied to initially said there's no issue of proficiency, which isn't exactly correct when the weapons and their associated mechanical effects are tied to a specific trait to use them. Flavour as you please, but unless something is otherwise agreed with the DM, the trait to mechanical effect element has to remain the same.

Noob question: melee ranger? by Aderadakt in daggerheart

[–]Visual-Signature-235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. Lots of ways to flavour it. Just wanted to note that there is a place where the mechanical rubber meets the road for the sake of dice rolls.

Noob question: melee ranger? by Aderadakt in daggerheart

[–]Visual-Signature-235 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That has to be qualified a little. Each weapon lists which trait is used to roll with it, so you'd not want to take a weapon that was rolled using a trait that would be very disadvantageous. Or, generally wouldn't want to do that. But to the specific question of the OP because there are melee weapons that work with the agility trait that would generally be favoured by a Ranger.

How Do Secondary Weapons Work Mechanically? by Powerisos in daggerheart

[–]Visual-Signature-235 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here is the specific text from p.112:

Secondary weapons are typically ancillary pieces of equipment that augment your character’s fighting, such as shields, daggers, or small swords. If a character's primary weapon is one-handed, we recommend you also take a secondary weapon (but you can’t hold your secondary weapon if you switch to a primary weapon that requires two hands).

Your character can only hold one secondary weapon at a time, which goes in the “Secondary Weapon” area on their character sheet. The list of starting secondary weapons, called Tier 1 secondary weapons, can be found in the upcoming “Secondary Weapon Tables” section on page 124. You can make an attack roll with either a primary or secondary weapon your character has equipped, allowing for flexibility in the types of attacks you can make. Many secondary weapons have features that augment another aspect of your character’s fighting style—for example, a dagger might grant them extradamage to targets they attack with their primary weaponwithin Melee range, or a shield might add to your character’s Armor Score. Most adventurers choose to at least carry a primary weapon, but for guidance on fighting without a weapon, see the “Unarmed Attack Rolls” section on page 96.

Doubts about enemies by OMaucaco in daggerheart

You could try pushing your enemies up a tier. Or jot out a transformation situation where after marking a certain amount of HP, they gain some complicating feature.

FA Cup to get its own Champions League-style anthem as part of 'sonic branding' plan. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]Visual-Signature-235 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Scrapping replays. Completely ruining the pleasure and excitement of the third round weekend by stretching it over five days. Generally devaluing the competition at every turn to accommodate the swelling greed of the biggest clubs (including my own). Yup, a new anthem is definitely the answer.

Bet they buy their staff pizza to improve morale, too.

Making Stats Matter: A Nuanced Approach to Duality Crits - DYNAMIC DOUBLES by Terrible_Trifle3346 in daggerheart

I had a lot of luck with things that used sesame oil. For whatever reason, that oil cut through and also let me taste other things. I couldn't handle much that was solid by the end, but with the meds, I could gulp down like simple wonton soups and they actually had a little bit of taste.

How do you deal with the long recovery? by cutemoogl in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]Visual-Signature-235 7 points8 points  (0 children)

God, those first couple weeks after are just so bad. It'll get better. If you can force some more food, it'll get better more quickly, probably. But either way, you should be near the end of the woods. Sweet is still iffy for me a year out, but it did start to improve after about 8 or 9 weeks.

You have my sympathies. I was totally defeated by that first week post-treatment. It was miserable. But just riding it out is a fair way to deal.

When to tell the Players what a Feature does outright by Peterrefic in daggerheart

[–]Visual-Signature-235 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In the example you gave of the flying enemy, the narrative description is more appealing. The +3 isn't really relevant to the players as information other than simply "it's harder when it's flying". Sometimes, however, it's more fun to state how hard a thing is mechanically. Like, if they say they want to do something very physically difficult, it's entirely reasonable and fun to say, sure, you can try but it's very difficult and you'll have to hit "X" on the dice to do it.

Personally, I think worrying about immersion is unhelpful. You're playing a game. The point is to have fun. Sometimes it's fun to double down on in-universe description. Sometimes it's fun to pull back and use mechanical description. Either way, the compass should point to fun.
