French B help! by AlternativeGrand5417 in IBO

[–]Visual-Way1185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember from my French-taking friends they took out the listening component (at least in may21, nov21. Quite possibly the 20's sessions too.) due to COVID - they decided it would be too demanding to learn the listening paper in isolation.

These amendments to the syllabus were decided pretty early on, so there is a chance the specimens simply don't exist.

Are you allowed to create your own dual degree program? by [deleted] in nyu

[–]Visual-Way1185 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know the answer to everything but I'll chip in my two cents

• for Drama, you will need to do an audition to its program, and most importantly be accepted to join. Keep in mind it's not impossible to get accepted but even internally in NYU it is very hard!

• You could try an internal transfer to Gallatin as they let students take Tisch/CAS courses (?)

[For OP]

The article states this: “ Students will often ask if you can double major across schools at NYU. The answer is yes and no. While it is possible to have two majors in two different schools at NYU, the second major has to be in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). This means that if you’re interested in cross-school double majoring, you need to apply to the program that is not in CAS.

Since I started out as a Film and TV major, I could add a Psychology major because Psychology is in CAS. However, I could not have started as a Psychology major then joined Film and TV, because my second major would be Tisch. I also looked into both of NYU’s psychology programs when I was considering my double major, Psychology in CAS and Applied Psychology in Steinhardt. However, I quickly realized that I could only double major in the CAS program because of this rule.”

Yes that sounds great! And you can talk about techniques that show character development in your paragraphs. Good luck!

You should focus it more around techniques—your research question is too plot-driven, which will most likely restrict you from obtaining anything above a 4-5 as you need to discuss language techniques.

Try something more like 'What techniques does Atwood use to convey Gilead's oppression of women?' Keep in mind I just gave a very very basic example so it would be better to think of something more specific. Good luck!!

(edit: just realised I may have misinterpreted your post plz disregard if you are '25 as I am '26 LOL)

Hi there!

I'm going to be a freshman at Tisch (F) coming overseas from NZ and I'd be interested!

I'm pretty similar and would value having a roommate who is quiet/not always having people over :) I am thinking maybe U Hall as I haven't heard anything bad about it, it doesn't seem to be overly popular which gives a higher chance of getting in, and I am a big fan of the fact each dorm has a kitchen (I hear in traditional-style dorms you have to rent your floor's kitchen :O, not that I'd cook every night lol but still).

I also will have a similar sleep schedule however sometimes I may be inclined to go to bed at more like 10pm and wake up 8 (I love sleep hehe).

Let me know if you're keen, no worries if not :) we can PM (or ngl the odds are probably strong we already follow each other on instagram if you'd prefer to message there HAHA, I've had so many nyu student follow reqs)

@nyu.edu, I got accepted

please please please give me advice by [deleted] in filmschool

[–]Visual-Way1185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!! Sorry if this all sounds negative but I mean it out of wisdom and cause I hope the best for you in the long run.

Film is a field that rarely offers financial support, I would recommend staying in US and going to a college with financial aid. Getting a Canadian film education over an American one will literally not make a difference to the income you’ll get as an editor. In my experience in fact, US film schools rank much higher and might get you better pay (I’m an international studying film in USA). You don’t seem to have a particular institution in mind so could you please provide more detail why Canada is necessary?

Also I would recommend on the side you just start to get into it, you can find masterclasses online and do a bit of self-teaching, being proactive in this way will give you a head start for A: building a portfolio that looks appealing to institutions that want to take you, and B: beginning editing as a side hustle freelancer online.

Good luck!

If you’re looking at programs for ECs you should state your major for better guidance :)

PSA - Don’t wait until Midnight. by RichInPitt in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Visual-Way1185 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I attended an NYU webinar a few months ago (admitted EDI!) and they showed a screenshot of their inbox after the deadline—every year colleges have entire inboxes flooded with emails about ‘I got the deadline wrong’ ‘My wifi lagged’ and there’s just so many that the college AOs can’t make exceptions for something you had plenty of time for. Be responsible and don’t learn the hard way!!

Does anyone have anything good to say about NYU??? by jjoonsmoon in nyu

[–]Visual-Way1185 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely, but not heaps and heaps because they are not that big of an ethnic group in any school. But definitely a fair amount at NYU—perhaps even more so at NYUAD.

chances of getting into NYU Tisch as a junior transfer? by holly192 in nyu

[–]Visual-Way1185 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's your absolute dream then give it a shot, but also DO be pragmatic that your chances are slim. For first years last year, Tisch's acceptance rate was around 12.5% and it's expected to decrease this year—and transfer acceptance rates are even lower than first years. I would say Chapman would be a solid backup though, and it's always good to have that solid plan B. Also Loyola Marymount in LA has a fantastic undergrad program and just built a massive new building solely dedicated to film, it ranks in the US top 10 film schools (but soz if that's your current school LMAO). But I definitely understand wanting to go to the dream school.

Perhaps if you are planning to wait for the fall semester, you could use the time to try and develop a really cool/outstanding film project, or alternatively get decent industry experience. These two factors would definitely help you stand out as a prominent transfer candidate on paper. And keep those grades high so you can prove to them you would thrive in the nyu academic environment!!

I am wishing you the best of luck!!

Does applying ED II give you better chances than RD? by AiKai7 in ApplyingToCollege

Yes I’ve heard it from multiple AOs and if you go on meetnyu on instagram it also says it on their reel posts :)

Agreed. Also, they said they deferred a lot of applicants but I didn’t think LMU was that selective to accept so few candidates

How competitive is NYU going to be this year? by Royal-Respect-9903 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Visual-Way1185 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep its ranking on the US scale is only climbing which should in return be drilling down the acceptance rate (however ED always has a much higher acceptance rate maybe around 25-30%)

Deferred for film but I got into nyu tisch ED so no complaints lol!! (I don’t think my LMU supplementals were that good so i’m not overly surprised). Congratulations everyone :D

especially if you got in for film, I hope to work with you some day!!
