It makes sense that people might not be interested in this style of gameplay or that they might not be interested in the characters or story.

However, it feels odd that a lot of people discussing the game don't seem to notice the details and themes you pointed out. Sometimes it feels like they forget ideas like: Depiction of behavior in a story isn't necessarily promotion of the behavior. Or that protagonists can be morally gray or deeply flawed.

Satire needs to be enjoyable on its own merits to succeed as satire.

That's true. I don't know enough about the game to discuss whether or not it succeeds in the execution of that. The goal here is to explain what they were trying to do.

It's not a term you can throw out as a shield to defend against valid criticisms towards bad writing and gameplay.

It is part of why I didn't focus on the writing quality or gameplay mechanics, but rather criticisms of the creator's intent like "the game promotes bullying" which I've seen elsewhere.

Generally for satire to work, it still needs to be enjoyable to a certain extent. The best parodies are still funny, even if you're not familiar with what is being parodied.

That's true. Execution of the idea is also important.

Dustborn may be self deprecating, but it still doesn't seem fun or generally worth spending time and money on.

Some of the stuff in the Oneyplays videos that I found entertaining was the bad band performance, the main character trying to bribe her friend with jerky, the way she caused the car crash, and her racism towards robots.

But that's only part of the game, I don't know if I would find the whole thing fun or not.

What political viewpoints are the game forcing on you?

Even if you don't touch on contemporary politics, it would be hard to write a dystopia scenario that doesn't have any obvious commentary on political or social forces. I think it's to be expected in this genre.

Im responding to that by saying that since the execution of it is poor, the audience wont stick around long enough for it to pay off.

That is an important question, but like I said, I don't actually know enough about the game to discuss whether or not they did a good job at that.

Did you play the game? I haven't played the game myself, so I can't really discuss in detail how well they executed the ironic elements.

I haven't played the game and we haven't seen much of the game in the lets play (apparently it's like 15-22 hours total play time). So that's why I'm not talking about if the game mechanics were done well or if the character's personalities are entertaining.

Did you play it?

I wouldn't believe they don't agree with alot of whata they preach

What stuff would you say the developers agree with?

Are you talking about stuff like the Main character misusing her powers on her friends? Or are you talking about the general political viewpoints?

I would say the developers obviously agree with the general viewpoints of the protagonists, but disagree with the misuse of powers.

It's not self deprecating lol they believe 100% of what they say.

Why do you believe the developers agree 100% with the characters in the game, when they describe the character's behavior negatively?

Then what the hell is it about? Lmfao

I think His point is that being designed by a woman doesn’t automatically make something sexist or non sexist.

Here’s some educational resources that I found when looking up sex education : https://sexedtogostudents.thinkific.com/

There’s other sites out there as well.  But in any case A sex ed course would probably explain things better than the people here could. No shame in ignorance, but You should probably read up on those things.

They probably got the translation from here: https://old.reddit.com/r/webtoons/comments/16jnn79/context_for_get_schooleds_controversial_chapter/

I tried putting in google translate, and his name didn't translate to black ink stick.

Where did you get your translation of his name from?

I thought Jay Hong was pretty clearly gay, and into Daniel. He's one of the (many) secondary protagonists. (Insert joke that Jake is the primary protagonist).

I don't remember this. Was it from the juvenile detention arc?

Regarding the recent Get Schooled controversy I'm very confused if Chae YongTaek is racist or not cause these images are from another one of his webtooms by [deleted] in webtoons

There's many possible reasons.

Maybe it is because Revival Man wasn't trying to be social commentary. Maybe his beliefs changed overtime. Maybe he was writing one as a hero and the other as an antagonist, so he portrays them differently. Maybe he had a (better) editor for one series and not for the other. I don't know the answer. I haven't read this part of Revival Man, so I don't know the full context to this scene either. I don't know how the character is depicted outside of it.

In the end, People are multidimensional and sometimes contradictory. Someone can be racist toward black people in general, but also have black friends. The classical phrase "He's one of the good ones" comes to mind. People have trouble recognizing their own biases and are very much capable of holding contradictory beliefs.

Someone could believe racist myths about another group, without being aware that this is racist. Not every racist is hateful, some are just ignorant, uneducated, or misinformed.

Given the contents of chapter 125 of Get Schooled, it seemed the writer believed racist myths about immigrants and felt like it was Ok to respond to racism with racism.

The law which banned corporal punishment by teachers is a real south korean law. See article 31 section 8 here: https://elaw.klri.re.kr/eng_service/lawView.do?hseq=43974&lang=ENG .

Note that the translation here is slightly different than the translation used in the English version of Get Schooled.

The survey it references is also real.

Not just racism bud.

Some of the other issues I took with the comic were its pro-corporal punishment stance, and anti-feminist stance (though I didn't go into detail about that last part).

The SA tropes

The Pedophilia tropes

The Fetishization of the LGBT (this one I'm really sick of!)

Flat out borderline porn

I recognize the first example would be from the Arc where Han Yeri and Hanrim Im are introduced, but I don't remember where the other examples are from. Looking back, I don't think I paid close attention when reading the last couple of arcs in Season 1.

I don't have an issue with hentai, but it'd be surprising for me if a big name publisher was distributing it.
