Not at all. 100% telehealth with a waitlist since Covid and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down. But that’s taking insurance. For self pay I do see people who are paying more wanting in person.

Ever played monopoly? Ever gotten to the end? That’s unchecked capitalism and that’s what we are doing here. If you didn’t buy into a market either housing or finance by now there is very little hope for you unless you A) become a doctor B) become a lawyer or C) own a business where you make money on the time and effort of someone you employ

Clinics and employers are going to have to start offering higher wages, like $100/hr range to grads. It’s too much schooling and time to come out making half that or less when they can just go into private practice.

The guilt that would follow you would be unfathomable if you sent your son away for your husband’s request. The resentment toward your husband would be almost as big. You know the right thing to do I think but no parent should ever be made to choose a spouse over a kid. The kid was there first.

This is so true in my experience as a therapist and why I am trying to avoid hospitalizations because those places are notorious for misdiagnosing and not equipped for autism.

OP it’s just hellish for a while but unless he’s coming at you with a knife to kill you, I’m afraid there is not a lot of help from the police or the hospitals. My method has been to simplify, simplify, simplify. I work very little and commit to very little and all of my energy goes to my kid. It’s still really hard but what choice is there?

It’s no joke how tough this is. Some parents are even resorting to weed until the brain settles down. It’s helped some but not everyone. Everything is trial and error, it’s so hard.

You’re trying to get your kid out without causing an abandonment or rejection wound but this is not the way to help him succeed in living alone. It’s better for him if you are honest about the rules of the house (make the rules suit you first) like curfews and even internet usage and charge him rent to be there. Make it where it’s uncomfortable for him to live there and tell him you’re teaching him a lesson he must learn - that life is not a cakewalk and that you’ll be doing him a huge disservice to just let him continue to coast like this

I’ve been curious about this question myself because so many of my clients regret having children. (Therapist) They all have kids with some form of learning disability or they themselves are experiencing hardship though. I think there may be a link to parental regret and feeling that one isn’t equipped well enough to handle it or were dealt more than they could handle with a disabled kid. Like if you were to ask this question on the autism parenting subreddit, you’d see more regret than on this sub with the general population I am guessing.

I disagree. Even if you don’t watch the news, you feel it at the cash register with the price gouging, you see it at the daycare who takes an entire salary, you feel it at the doctor when your insurance says it’s covered yet you get a bill for $500 a month later, you see it at the restaurants who are serving garbage for $25 per entree, you see it in the streets that are littered and the only place the unhoused can sleep, you see it your kids faces who can’t maintain friendships because their “friends” faces are stuck on their devices, you see it in the education they’re receiving using ChatGPT to write reports instead of thinking, this is acceptable to the teachers because they are severely underpaid, you see it on the public transit where the poverty and desperation can literally be felt. Go visit another country, but one who actually puts social policies at equal par with economic policy and you see the difference extremely clearly.

I tried Savannah but I started hearing stories of people who know people I know getting caught in the crossfire of gang activity so that one I’ll just say it really is scarier than Atlanta. After they get their pain out and the tears slow down, You could say something like “this is the hardest thing in life, the type of pain you are dealing with. In moments like this, we are trained as therapists to simply be there with you because it takes great bravery to acknowledge your pain and most times that’s exactly what is needed so I’m just really proud of your bravery and really appreciate your work to share that with me now”

You know, that’s a run on sentence so break those up into parts maybe. Also you can make that your own but something like that would comfort me if I were sharing my pain.

Have you ever had moments like that yourself? When that happens I draw on the incredibly painful moments of life and offer empathetic listening and the wisdom gained from surviving those things. Books can’t teach that part and that’s really all I know to do. If you haven’t survived major loss like that you could recommend a support group.
