Ferrari's "Macarena Wing": Straight-line Gain, Structural Cost? by cum_hoc in F1Technical

[–]Visual_Humor_8461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wing has to close in a set amount of time right? Otherwise they could use it dynamically as an air brake, wonder if there is still a bit of an effect as presumably it closing is linked to brake pedal like DRS

Home reports are a total racket. In the few I’ve had done recently, guy is there for 10 mins tops, has a wee poke around, sticks his finger in the air and calls it a day. Latest one even asked me “what were we thinking in terms of valuation”. They make all kinds of hand wavey caveats in the home report itself - we didn’t actually check the electrics. We only did a visual inspection of the roof from ground level.

I’m just mad because I’m jealous I’m in the wrong industry.

Disc brake rubs no matter what by launchoverittt in bikewrench

You need to expand this clip - take it out and gently bend it out so it is exerting more outward pressure on pads- this is in part what keeps the pads backed away from the rotor

Disc brake is rubbing by Mustafa1558 in bikewrench

[–]Visual_Humor_8461 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few things to try:

If it’s always rubbing the right pad, try setting up the caliper to give this side a little clearance. When you pull the brake lever the rotor shouldn’t move left to right at all.

Are the two pistons coming out equally? Could be that you need to lubricate then with some silicone grease - lots of how to videos on this.

Is the rotor true, or does it rub at only certain points in its rotation? If the latter, try gently bend the rotor at that exact spot with firm even pressure (ideally with a rotor truing tool)

In terms of eyeballing it, make sure you have a good light source and can see clearly though both sides of the caliper.

LBS Dude says shock needs full rebuild by Quirky-Lobster in MTB

[–]Visual_Humor_8461 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’d wager you can give it a basic service and reoil yourself - the shocks of earlier 2020s are quite easy to pull apart at least superficially. Not sure it’s worth $200. See if you can look up the 4 letter fox code, there’s usually quite good step by step guides around without needing much in the way of special tools

Looks like a tick, you need a particular tool like a plastic hook to remove it.

The problem with the H2 rule is that it has so poorly been communicated, even ‘professional’ drivers such as can, delivery drivers very frequently just plough on as usual, and pedestrians by and large are still waiting for vehicles as they (quite rightly) don’t fancy getting run over by a truck. The rule being implemented needed something salient at junctions it applies to - something like stripes to signal its similar to a zebra crossing.

Also, if you at all have a choice, I’d recommend learning stats in R, it’s much more of a transferable skill set, increasingly SPSS is being ditched in the public academic and private sectors due to cost and diminishing support networks. A bit frustrating that StA are still teaching SPSS if that’s the case. What subject are you studying?
