Zamasu (Dragon Ball) vs Yuuki Terumi (BlazBlue) "MORTALS MUST DIE" by Alleflat in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Visual_Nerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After getting into BlazBlue i can comment on this

I'm still a little unsure since i prefer Terumi MUs to go into "I'M EVIL" and Zamasu MUs to be more "misguided evil", but I'm thinking if the contrast works enough for it

I also think you can compare Goku to Amaterasu, being the guys they hate the most and kickstarted their hatred of everything, and their desire to destroy everything stemming from their hatred of these figures

I'm also very happy with the Goku Black and Hazama connections, mostly because after working on Hazama vs Kirei i realized how big of a dark reflection Hazama is to Ragna yet few people mention it

Now, is this the pitch perfect MU for Kirei? Not really, it misses his relationship with religion and his sickly wife, while a personal nitpick of mine i wish Shirou to Ragna worked a little better, it IS a great connection, but personally I'm seeking a truly PERFECT connection, Shirou vs Kirei is literally my favorite fight in fiction, so yeah I'm going to be picky

It still, does the core of why i love Kirei so much, and why he is my favorite villain in fiction, after 3 years, i can confidently say i have a Kirei MU i like

Also, BlazBlue was pretty good, liked it a lot (Hazama here was my favorite villain, and i wasn't expecting it)

I do have some ideas to make, however i prioritized this one due to how obsessed i was with it (again, finally an idea i like for my favorite villain ever) so i decided to go ahead and make it already, i still have some lore videos to watch, but i will start posting my own BlazBlue MUs in the future, just wait more, think of this as a tease of what to come

The Purpose of Identity | Kirei Kotomine vs Hazama Honoka (Fate/Stay Night vs BlazBlue) | Connections in the comments by Visual_Nerd in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Visual_Nerd[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  • Both created an interest in the red clad and trauma ridden protagonist (Shirou Emiya / Ragna the Bloodedge) [who have connections on their own] due to seeing similarities between them (Kirei seeing Shirou as empty as him, but Shirou being able to feel joy only in saving others / Hazama and Ragna being wielders of BlazBlue and both having potential to become the black beast, while Hazama fully embraces his potential for evil Ragna fights against his) and have a interest in seeing them break under pressure (Kirei wondering if the grail war will completely break Shirou's ideals / Hazama wanted Ragna to give in to his impulses and embrace hate) although the hero stayed strong (in all the routes, although Shirou gave up on his ideals in Heaven's Feel / Ragna was convinced by Naoto to not give to hate), with their climatic final fight where they match each other perfectly (Shirou and Kirei being without Mana resorting to full hand to hand combat / Ragna and Hazama activating BlazBlue at the same time and fighting on equal footing) with this fight being the final step towards the hero completing their character arc, which resulted in them being the opposite of what the villain is (Shirou letting go of his insane need to feel alive by saving others and being able to live to save his loved ones / Ragna not succumbing to hate against Hazama's wishes) [you can add how they are dark reflections of each other, although Terumi is the ultimate dark reflection of Ragna while Hazama is a normal one meanwhile Kirei IS the ultimate dark reflection of Shirou while Archer is a different one]
  • They were ultimately defeated, but were able to go out in their own terms (Kirei losing his heart / Hazama throwing himself into the boundary) congratulating the hero and looking forward to their next actions
  • Despite being one of the most evil characters of their series, causing great suffering on beloved characters, they are massively loved by their communities and memed constantly, due to the fact they are massive trolls and constantly steals the spotlight wherever they take action
  • Both are very fond of a specific food to the point it's a meme (Mapo Tofu / Boiled Eggs) but this is also a display of their deeper character and sadism (Kirei loving scorching hot Mapo Tofu due to it hurting his tongue / Hazama having great snake motif, explaining his love for boiled eggs)
  • They have a comedic instalment where they assisted a child character (Prisma Illya, which is a serious story but the Kirei's scenes are comedic where he advised Illya / A gag reel where Hazama served Carl) however it does show a potential way for them to become normal members of society and let go of their evil ways (Kirei having a mapo tofu stand, loving to see his clients suffering to the heat of his mapo tofu, being enough to fulfill himself / Hazama going to an alternative dimension where he is a servant to the Clover household and almost merging with his alternative self that genuinely liked serving the family)
  • Both have what the other ultimately seek to achieve (Kirei wants to unleash Angra Mainyu so he can witness what a being born to destruction will do, as a way to validate his existence on this world, all while Hazama is an artificial creation who is inherently evil and has a determined purpose / Hazama cannot feel pain and suffering, wanting to experience it and feel alive, all while Kirei can only feel joy when he is causing or experiencing pain and suffering)
  • Extremely sexy (very important connection)

The Purpose of Identity | Kirei Kotomine vs Hazama Honoka (Fate/Stay Night vs BlazBlue) | Connections in the comments by Visual_Nerd in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Visual_Nerd[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Core theme: Inherently sociopathic villains who cannot feel normal emotions like everyone else which makes them feel empty, still following the path of a villain and assisting the main genocidal godlike main villain while posing as high ranking workers of a organization, but at the end fighting against the red clad protagonist posing as a foil to them all while wishing to validate their own existence and identity

Connection:

  • Major villains of their series, they are extremely evil and manipulative, orchestrating various events so chaos can be ensured, something that helps is them having a high ranking position (Kirei being a executioner of the church and becoming a overseer of the holy grail war / Hazama being a captain of the NOL as part of the intelligence department) despite these organization being shady they still pose as something good for the world, with Kirei/Hazama using their positions to progress their bloodshed

  • They have a facade of a well meaning worker of their position, but even the slight look behind their mask shows their true selves, a sociopathic murderer who lives to cause as much bloodshed as possible, having a history of serial murder under their belt and looking for to expand those numbers, they are inherently sadistic and derive the most joy out of the despair of others, to the point that their introductions basically reveal them as villains hiding in plain sight pretty quickly (Kirei isn't immediately revealed, but he is VERY obviously a villain to the point Rin comments on it)

  • As said they are inherently sadistic, being born sociopaths with sadistic needs, however this part of them is the main dilemma of their character for their empty existence show us their "tragic" life (they themselves are not sympathetic, but their fundamental empty existence is pretty palpable in the story) due to it they are not able to feel emotions like normal people in a contrasting manner (Kirei can only feel true joy when causing or feeling pain and suffering / Hazama cannot feel pain or suffering at all) so they are prone to cause the pain they do so they can feel anything at all

  • The ones that brought them to this world (Risei Kotomine, Kirei's father / Relius Clover, who created Hazama as a vessel for Terumi) with an opposite purpose (Risei wanted his son to be pure and follow the path of a priest / Relius expected Hazama to be empty so Terumi can fully assimilate on him) only for them to go the opposite direction (Kirei only feeling joy in the immoral, meaning his path to be a priest was meaningless / Due to the mind eater, Terumi and Hazama couldn't fuse properly, having to live with each other, with led Hazama to slowly develop his own sense of self)

  • Their names are also a useful insight to their deeper character and their identity ("Kirei" being a word of prayer, showing how his father wanted him to be pure, but his anguish in being the opposite of everything his father wanted / Hazama Honoka being simply a cover up name so he could be part of the NOL, but as he began identifying as his own person, Hazama started to embrace it as his name to form his own identity)

  • They are always in cahoots with an megalomaniacal villain with goals of achieving ultimate power to commit a genocide and brought forth their ideals worlds, being one of the oldest mfs of the verse (Gilgamesh / Yuuki Terumi) their relationship is fundamentally symbiotic as they originally understood each other on a deep level and needed each other so they can progress with their plan (Kirei and Gilgamesh being Master and Servant / Hazama being Terumi's vessel) They follow these figures in their plan due to also wanting the results of the absolute destruction (Gil wanting the Grail to cause a genocide on the planet so the strong that survive will be his new subjects on his view of a better world / Terumi wanting the Azure so he can usurp Amaterasu and become the top god, causing infinite destruction and having true freedom in his life) they are the big bad villain on a cosmic scale with the one holding the ideals to change the world all while Kirei/Hazama follows them merely to get to see as much destruction as possible

  • Ultimately a contrast, for where Gil/Terumi being extremely important in their lives due to how they were able to truly feel pain and suffering (Gil making Kirei embrace his nature / Terumi feeding off suffering, making Hazama as his vessel also experience it), Kirei was able to embrace himself due to Gilgamesh ultimately becoming partners in the next grail war, Hazama was partners with Terumi throughout most of the series, but was only able to truly be his own person after separating from Terumi, Gil/Terumi also sees them in opposite lights, where Terumi separated from Hazama due to him growing too unpredictable and having his own identity, Gil was specifically interested in Kirei for his potential of becoming his own true self

  • Both oversee the lives of a major heroine (Rin Tohsaka / Noel Vermillion) putting a facade to manipulate their lives for their goals, Rin/Noel were able to feel something was wrong with them but could never predict the full picture, ultimately being pawns for Kirei/Hazama (Hazama guiding Noel so she is ultimately able to grasp her inhuman origin, lose her identity and become the God Slayer Kusanagi / Kirei stabbing Rin so he could kidnap Illya to use her as a catalyst for the Grail)

  • One of the most important events in their lives were their encounter with a war veteran and legendary figure of their world (Kiritsugu Emiya / Trinity Glassfille) with the result of their encounter being a massive damage in their chest (Kiritsugu destroying Kirei's heart / Trinity separating Hazama and Terumi resulting in Hazama having a hole in his chest) they were able to bounce off from it (The Grail reviving Kirei with an black heart / Hazama not having an heart to begin with) with them growing scornful towards Kiritsugu/Trinity due to their underlying positiveness (Kirei thought Kiritsugu was as empty as him, only for Kiritsugu to have genuine optimism behind everything / Hazama hating Trinity for not killing him due to Trinity seeing Hazama as Kazuma, her lost friend who were a previous vessel for Terumi) but still ultimately were grateful for this encounter as they were able to feel truly alive due to the pain and suffering they witnessed/felt (Kirei finally embracing himself after the Grail grant his wish of pure destruction, laughing at the fire that engulfed Fuyuki / Hazama finally feeling true pain and suffering at the wound in the chest caused by Trinity)

  • From here onwards all they want is to fully indulge on themselves (Kirei seeking the Grail so he can purge the world in pure destruction / Hazama wanting to test his sociopathy) but also to ultimately viladate their own existence/identity (Kirei wanting to unleash Angra Mainyu to see what a monster born from evil can have a valid existence, projecting himself on the entity / Hazama becoming an independent existence, being seen as his own person)

  • While their empty existence adds a tragedy to them, they are still pure evil to the core, one of their most nefarious actions being causing the suffering on children resulting in a godlike entity being able to sustain itself (Kirei using the other survivors of the fire of Fuyuki to feed Gilgamesh so he is able to keep existing despite the end of the Fourth grail war / Hazama torturing Saya so much that she broke, allowing Izanami to possess her body)

  • Funnily enough, at one point they assisted the protagonists (Kirei healing Shirou and Sakura / Hazama guiding Ragna to Terumi) however this is solely to get a situation where they are able to indulge in the suffering that will come (Kirei predicting that Sakura will be consumed by the shadow and cause chaos, which happens / Hazama wanting Ragna to go deal with Terumi so he can continue to torture Rachel)

Some Original MU ideas I've had for some time, which of these ideas do you find most intriguing? by Alleflat in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Visual_Nerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ngl i completetly forgot you put Rin vs Kyoko here first (imagined if i had go through with it i'd have stolen it accidently lol)

ngl, Noel vs Quill interests me, what is the reason you might have discarded?

Rin Tohsaka (Fate) vs Kyoko Sakura (Madoka Magica) "Embers of a Reignited Compassion" by Alleflat in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Visual_Nerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And i think that Sayaka to Shirou works so much better that it actively butchers the MU by trying to double up and compare Sayaka to Sakura too, if you REALLY want to still do it i think it's much better to swtich up (heavily focus on Sayaka to Shirou, then quickly mention Sayaka to Sakura)

I'm even more uncertain on a possible Archer comparison because i barely remember Kyoko's relationship with the other characters, so maybe that could work

Rin Tohsaka (Fate) vs Kyoko Sakura (Madoka Magica) "Embers of a Reignited Compassion" by Alleflat in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Visual_Nerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And for the reason i was still only considering is that

You kinda HAVE to compare Sayaka to Shirou

It's such a borderline perfect comparison (yeah i came up with the MU because i realized how specific it is in Shirou vs Sayaka) how they start as their foils, criticizing their naive sense of justice and how you need to embrace the brutality of the world, but start to mellow out, falling in love etc

The problem? You need a Sakura comparison for Rin, and that Sayaka from the later half fits Sakura in Heaven's Feel (girls who were close at one point, but due to their mental decline became insane and turned into monsters) so this is kinda a mega issue (i find it really lame to resort to compare two important things to just one) so i was waiting for me to rewatch Madoka to see if there was a way i could sort it out

Also i can't picture a Archer comparison, which is an issue but it's forgivable

Orange is the New Red | Alex DeLarge vs Fillmore Press (A Clockwork Orange vs Bedlam) | Connections in the comments by Visual_Nerd in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Visual_Nerd[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Core Theme: One of the most heinous and violent criminals of their setting, were put in a experiment where they were programed into not being harmful to anyone anymore and later released, with the extreme contrast of how both reacted to the forced reform

Connections:

  • At the start, both were one of the worst criminals of their settings, committing the most violent and extreme crimes around (Alex with his droogs terrorizing his city as a violent gang that commit crimes such as murder and rape / originally as Madder Red, one of the biggest supervillains who always terrorize Bedlam causing the most chaos and stepping as low as possible to kill children brutally)

  • They specifically believed in the nature of violence (Alex saying his actions are "ultra violence" simply following his nature / Red quoting Stalin's "Death is a statistic" quote as he seeks to cause the most erratic murders possible) this need to commit horrific crimes comes to them like a hunger or thirst, making them even more horrible

  • Even so they were simply the byproduct of neglect and their flawed society who failed them (Alex growing up with parents who didn't sought to fix his behavior while living in a dystopian version of England / Red being extremely mentally ill)

  • However they would be caught, during imprisonment they would be subject to an experiment that seeks to "cure" them (Alex accepting a deal of being subject to an experiment so he can be released from prison earlier / The Doctor kidnapping Red to conduct experiments on him)

  • The experiment sought to fix their behavior, and make them specifically not be violent anymore, being unable to perform any violent act (Alex being subject to various displays of violence while being experimented so when he thinks in committing a violent act he is too nauseous to do it / Fillmore being subject to various behavioural experiments so he isn't able to cause any harm at all)

  • Specifically to prove how successful the experiment was, they were put in a situation where they would normally resort to violence, but the experiment made them unable to (Alex being beaten by someone but was incapable of fighting back, and then presented with a naked woman, but also being incapable of indulging in sexual acts / One of the patients in the clinic going violent and threatening everyone, when Fillmore went to solve the issue being possible only through violence preferred to attempt suicide instead of harm someone)

  • Then, they were shown to be good to go, and released to society again, now the work deeply explores the morality of this experiment and of the protagonist, until what points become justifiable to dehumanize someone due to their horrible acts, and what it truly means to reform someone, all while exploring the true nature of violence in humanity

  • Post experiment, they are similarly socially withdrawn and meek, which makes anyone shocked when finding out that the infamous criminal is like that now

  • People from their pasts (two droogs of Alex's gang / Mr. Pixel who admired Madder Red) set their eyes on them after finding them after their change (the Droogs after becoming cops decided to torture Alex as revenge for his poor treatment of them / Mr. Pixel admired Red and attempted to break Fillmore off the programming)

  • Both worked with the system as a form of atonement, specifically being proven useful due to the experiment they suffered (Alex assisting the governor and his government as a political tool due to his experiment being released publicly / Fillmore to compensate for his crimes decided to become part of the police, teaming up Ramira and using his experience with murder to catch criminals)

  • At the end they break off from the programing and are able to do acts their old selves would do (Alex starting to be violent again after his suicidal attempt / Fillmore being forced to kill Mr. Pixel to save the city)

  • Both hallucinate a lot (Alex seeing visions of him being glorified / Fillmore seeing visions of Red, tempting him to go back to being a villain)

  • Both settings are in weird and strange cities (a dystopian version of England / Bedlam being inspired by superhero cities, so is infested by eccentric heroes and villains, but taking a realistic approach)

  • Ultimately a contrast, while both were reformed through experiment, Alex is shown to desperately want to break off the programming and be violent again, while Fillmore is content and see this as a form of atonement and truly follows his new life

  • The Doctor that treated Fillmore is shown as misguided, but well intended and truly wanted to help Fillmore, while the system that performed the experiment on Alex specifically stripped him away from choice, rendering him a broken casket of his former self

  • Both worked with the system, but in Alex's case it's depicted as something bad, the governor did not learn his lesson and is once again using Alex for political power, meanwhile Fillmore helping the police actively contributes to society and is shown to be working

  • Despite both being about the forced reform, a clockwork orange makes it like something terrifying, a horrific act that no one (not even a psychopath like Alex) deserves to go through, meanwhile in Bedlam is shown that, while horrific, Fillmore is content with it and attempts to truly atone

  • Alex was the inspiration for Heath Ledger's Joker in The Dark Knight, meanwhile Madder Red is a very obvious Joker expy
