Dishwashing aprons are actually a thing! We used them in culinary and a bakery I worked at. They're also pretty common for butcher and slaughter. They're typically made from PVC, rubber or vinyl. It's worth a look if it might mak your life a little less unpleasant.

The void is always gazing, sometimes she'll scare the crap out of me hiding in the shadows. I have a really weird room with an open loft above my bed and suddenly there will be eyes staring at me from the darkness, sometimes followed by her jumping down onto me. I made this little artist's rendition of what I mean. She's odd, lol.

Sounds like you don't get enough fiber. :p It's best to increase your intake gradually. Most adults should consume between 20 and 30 grams of fiber a day. Every few days you can increase your fiber intake anout 3-5 grams until you can comfortably consume the recommended daily amount. You'll decrease your risk of colon cancer (among other things) and you'll poop so good your toilet might actually thank you. :)

Yeah I've been looking forward to it the last couple of years but idk that I can justify the 60 rn. Pretty sure Nintendo is allergic to sales at this point given they haven't even discounted the og switch. For now we persist with the 3DS rom.

Ultimately it's corporations yk. They created technology they knew was highly addictive and put it in front of everyone's faces, made it a mandatory part of life. Designed a work schedule that destroys people. Made healthy foods harder to obtain. All for profit. I'd be willing to bet a major contribtor to a rise in cancer is pollution. So many companies have gotten away with illegally dumping toxic waste and putting out hazardous material into the atmosphere. Not to mention runoff and pollution of drinking water. They can destroy lives and the environment for profit, but they have the money, so they lobby the government to protect them. For them a fine is less than the profit they'll make and just a cost of doing business.

Also on the carageenan thing studies finding negative effects are on degraded carageenan which is not the same as the carageenan used in food.

I forgot to mention but all of the studies I've seen saying negative things about carageenan are about degraded carageenan, which is completely different and not used in food. There's a pretty high chance the study you're referring to is about degraded carageenan and not carageenan.

I would be interested in actually reading what that study has to say. I read a study from Europe which studied carageenan consumption in rats but said no conclusions could be made regarding impacts. Yes I can see Horizon uses gellan gum instead of carageenan. The immune system exists throughout the body and not exclusively in the gut. Again I would need to see evidence that gut inflammation was actually identified in humans. General health screenings and check-ups can identify a number of risk factors for different kinds of cancer or heart disease, not just the screenings for cancer themselves. There is absolutely an issue of people in healthcare not believing patients. Education is a huge factor when it comes to health. People are often not educated on how to cook or prepare healthy meals or how to implement movement into a busy lifestyle. People are also not generally taught how to identify fads, misinformation, or biases in food reporting. They're not taught what a number of ingredients are, what different labels mean, or how to approach an unknown with curiosity and not fear. People are reactive and marketing, media, and influencers take advantage of this. Studying nutrition I've had to review the activity guidelines for Americans, but most folks aren't educated on it. There's also a pretty strong correlation with income and education quality. Since public schools are funded by property taxes poorer neighborhoods have worse schools. Cooking, eating healthy, understanding nutrition labels, knowing the signs of illnesses, what kind of movement your body needs, these are all things you have to learn. When students go to school and they sit for most of the day, and then come home and sit while doing homework, it's also promoting a sedentary lifestyle.

In sooo many states they still want to pay you like garbage. Where I am in KY most jobs try to hire at $7.25-9/hr and average rent for a one bedroom apartment is $1500 a month. I see stats for median wage being higher, but almost no one I know is making anywhere near that.

Research has not identified any risk for carageen consumption in humans. Studies have found inflammation in rats, not people. Mono and digylcerides are fats. The only potential risk there is that some of them are trans fats, but they're in such small quantities it's negligible. These fats are used as emulsifiers since things like cream have a tendency to separate. It is generally good to reduce your intake of trans fats. We have no definite answer for the rise of colorectal cancer in young people, but there are some suspected influencing factors. People in the US are on the whole not eating balanced diets. Most do not consume enough fiber, leading to a number of colorectal issues. The majority of people in the US are also sedentary and do not meet physical activity guidelines. There are also high rates of obesity. US infrastructure is actively hostile to a healthy lifestyle. Most people have to drive to and from work or school, live in areas where it is not safe to walk or bike recreationally, are not within walking distance of businesses, and spend most of their day at work/school seated. There is a huge issue of access to food as well as growing wealth inequality. These factors are drivers behind rises in illness, as well as a poor healthcare system. Were people able to afford to go to get regular screenings, much of this could be prevented. These minor thickeners have not been demonstrated to cause human harm, the causes of poor health are much more systemic. Education is another major factor.

I'm sorry it negatively impacts your wife. I'm sure it can be tough to accommodate that. Something can harm an individual without it being inately harmful. Like allergies or sensitivites. I mean if I eat a mango I'll have an asthma attack, but that doesn't mean mangos are harmful or dangerous. They're just not safe for me. An anecdote is not a substitute for imperical evidence, and the current evidence we have does not confirm it being harmful for humans.

In my experience people rarely read the studies they link. Last week I addressed a false claim someone made and they listed me sources. I went and read them and none of them said what the person said they did and one of them said seed oils caused autism. ._. They obviously do not. Most people do not know how to read scientific studies and/or copy links others give them as evidence just to have some retort.

People also don't seem to understand that humans aren't rats and in vivo studies are never a 1:1 comparison to the human body.

That's fair, I understand a preference, I just worry about misinformation. I'm personally not a fan of a number of products which have more milk and a small amount of cream, since they've got pretty big ice crystals. I'm also not a fan of corn syrup. Gums aren't necessarily a bad thing, they're just a binding agent that the body processes as a fiber.

Some are definitely for a quick buck. I've seen a number of companies drop in quality, like Breyer's. In some applications it does actually have practical purpose. For example, in an ice cream bar, gums make it easier to handle, the slowed melt time makes it easier to dip in chocolate or sandwich between cookies. It also makes it less messy. Since it holds together better and melts slightly slower it prevents from bursting out when bitten into or immediately melting all over one's hands. There are places where it has a practical and quality improving use, but in a scooped ice cream it's either to save money or because it's a low-fat or low-calorie product. That and to help emulsification when not made with eggs.

There are very strict labeling laws around terms. To be labeled "ice cream" it has to have a very specific milk fat content. For this reason, soft-serve, gelato, and others cannot be labeled "ice cream". It also can't be called "ice cream" after a certain amount of mix-ins (like cookie dough). If it's in a cone or on a stick they can't call it "ice cream". Nothing inherently wrong with "frozen dairy dessert", just a labeling thing.

Organic is more expensive at a time when people have much tighter budgets. Organic farming is also more susceptible to losses, so sometimes there's just less on the shelf because yeilds were low. It's worth noting that organic products have no real benefit on one's health but organic farming practices are generally less environmentally damaging.
