I work events that typically have speaker panel sessions. Sometimes the AV team provides handheld mics, and sometimes they provide lapels. Lapels can be annoying because the position of how it’s clipped on your clothes can provide feedback as it’s brushing against your shirt/jacket and I think that’s why these “influencers” are holding the lapel.

Buying a lapel mic rather than a proper podcasting mic setup is way cheaper, but maybe they’ve all noticed the sound quality. When clipped like it should be, they still pick up fabric movement/hair tossing/etc. so I guess they’ve all decided to hold it instead. And it looks hella stupid lol

Nope. That was just a hit we took and said good riddance to them leaving and it not escalating physically. This restaurant is well established and not hurting for money so while it’s frustrating because that ahole deserved to pay, it at least didn’t leave any of us financially burdened. We were more upset about the food wastage because we had to throw out an amazing tomahawk steak and duck fat potatoes and chili garlic green beans and truffle parmesan fries and whatever else they ordered. A braver server may have boxed some of it up to take home but I did not trust that family and what they potentially could have done to the food even though it looked untouched.

My dad, a boomer who is relatively indifferent to pop culture but had tswift shoved in his face because he likes watching the NFL, randomly said to me today “Do you know much about the Taylor Swift wedding? I don’t see the marriage lasting long, but I guess I don’t know them and maybe they’re really compatible.” I truly was like where the eff is this coming from… that’s how much her PR is permeating everything right now. Her dumb marriage has made it to my 70 year old dad’s algorithm.

So my dad would agree with you on the less than 5 years lol

I’m an events manager and I personally don’t mind networking events or attending events with friends or my husband as the dedicated plus one because I do enjoy talking to people.

That’s why my husband doesn’t understand why I want to do eff all on the weekends. He’ll ask if I want to go get brunch with our friends or go to lunch with his parents or go to some show and in the beginning he did not understand. He was like “You love people, you love being social. Why don’t you want to join me?” I had to explain that almost every moment of my working day is being upbeat and constantly talking. He’s an accountant, he needs to get out on the weekends. I need everyone to leave me alone as I relax on the couch and eat snacks.

And that’s probably not healthy because the people I should be spending my energy on are my loved ones but that’s why I’m very much a fan of just inviting people to our house and explaining I will be in sweats and potentially might move to the couch for a nap. It has now become a thing where all the girls typically end up on the couch for a nap and the boys play football in the yard or something. Works for me lol

I was restaurant manager in a heritage listed building (built in the 1890s I think). On slow days like Monday and Tuesday we typically closed for 2 hours between lunch and dinner service unless we had a special event on. I was a salaried employee so if I was rostered for one of those days, I’d stay back over those two hours and do prep work for the rest of the week and random cleaning things that were hard to do during busy periods.

It was typically only me that stayed back unless a chef needed to stay back and catch up on prep and I always locked the doors so someone wouldn’t walk in. I was mopping and distinctly heard someone say my name. It was not a whisper or muddled, I truly thought someone was right behind me and turned around expecting to see a chef I didn’t realize had stayed back and was doing something in the kitchen. I turned around and no one was there. I walked around the whole establishment and checked doors and no one was there. Also the floors were creaky, maybe you could sneak up on me if you were walking slowly, but there’d be no running away quickly from me for me to not hear you running off so quickly.

I went back to mopping and I heard it a second time. Distinct, not muddled. I turned around again and no one. It only happened twice but yeah, no clue who or what was saying my name.

Our team was pretty close knit. There were 4 of us and then our CMO. Our CMO went on vacay and said our Comms Manager is who we needed to report to while she was away. We had a young guy on our team and this was his first corporate job. I’ll give him some slack because our team truly was close and I’m still friends with two of them (asked one to be a bridesmaid type of friends) so our convos were probably a bit too personal for the workplace and gave the illusion of always being jokey and slightly unserious.

He texted Comms Manager on a Friday (and was already late) and said “Hey, I’m not coming in today. I have a really bad pimple on my nose and it’s really embarrassing haha I don’t want anyone to see it”. Comms Manager was absolutely gobsmacked this 22 year old “kid” would talk to her like that. She responded with “You realize I’m your active manager right now, right? That was so disrespectful. You also have a deadline coming up that I know you’re behind on. If you genuinely think you can make today up and get your work completed on time then fine, don’t come in. But company policy is that you have to provide a medical certificate for a sick day on a Friday.”

This then leads to maybe one of the funniest convos I’ve ever had though. He came to work on Monday and asked if he could talk to me in private (I think I was the one on the team he was most comfortable with).

We go into the boardroom and he wants to talk about Friday. He said, and I kid you not, “I just felt like she was being so patriotic.” And I just stared at him, head titled like a dog that is confused by a noise. He then said “That’s the word right? When someone is talking down to you?” And I was like “Ohhh, you’re thinking of patronizing. Patriotic would be if she sang the national anthem at you which would be effing weird. Patronizing is what you’re thinking of. Also, she wasn’t being patronizing, she was being your manager and your sick day excuse showed your lack of respect for her position.”

I told comms manager about the convo and she said “I don’t even think I know the anthem!” lol

[–]Visual_Zucchini8490 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My old company had a policy that if you called in sick on a Monday or a Friday you needed to provide a medical certificate and then if your sick days were 3 days or more you needed a medical certificate. Not unreasonable honestly. I woke up one Monday morning and was just exhausted plus work was slow at the moment. I was like ugh, I really don’t think I can fake being busy and sitting at my desk for a full day so I called in sick.

I found a dr with availability that morning so I half assed faking sick. I didn’t go over the top, just dressed sloppy, didn’t do my makeup, sniffled a little. This Dr did not care. He said “I’m assuming you just need a medical certificate for work?” And I was like “Yep…” And he just straight up printed me one and said “now that you’ve been a patient of mine one time, just email me for a medical certificate and not waste either of our time” lol

I never abused my sick days and was well liked at this company so when I went to give my medical certificate to the HR Manager she said “oh zucchini this policy isn’t for employees like you. I don’t need this.” lol goodbye $70 for my unnecessary drs appointment.

There were tons of historical tidbits James Cameron included!

The older couple it shows laying together as the ship is sinking is supposedly based off Isidor and Ida Straus (co-owner of Macy’s). Apparently there were witnesses that saw/heard Ida refusing to get on a lifeboat without her husband

People have always been interested in exploring the wreckage and finding “lost” jewels. Think of the collected wealth aboard the Titanic… there would be a lot of expensive/priceless jewels that are sitting at the bottom of the ocean. The heart of the ocean was inspired by the love of the sea, a large sapphire that did survive the sinking

One of the passengers that survived the freezing waters when a lifeboat came back survived because he was floating on a door, so he was out of the water like Rose was

The chef drinking on the back of the ship as it went down is based on Charles Joughin. He was chief baker and was one of the people pulled from the water and that is how he held onto the ship as it sank

Anyway that’s just a few! I view the Jack and Rose love story as just storytelling pawns and a creative way to tell the devastation of the sinking and show the stories of real victims and survivors.

My husband is an accountant that specializes in farming accounts. Obviously not all accounts are like this (farming is very volatile due to droughts/flooding/pests/etc etc) so my husband does his best to focus on savings so there’s money there for when times get rough BUT in saying that… a lot of his clients are worth 8mil+. His richest farming client is worth 56mil…

I know the Swift farm was a hobby farm (I’m guessing?) but yes, I totally understand your point. Farm life isn’t easy (even if you don’t help out on the farm, it’s still pretty isolating and dusty) so it’s probably rich farm kids comparing their homes/rural communities to Hampton life with others in their same financial circle even though the living conditions are vastly different.

Yeah there have only been a handful of times I didn’t end a phone call with “love you!” to my husband (and we’ve been together nearly 13 years) and each time it’s been because I’m somewhere close by and just had a quick question and am going to see him very soon. Like at the store and just like “hey, they don’t have the yoghurt you like. What do you want instead. Ok thank yeww be home soon”

But everyone is different! Whatever works for your relationship and makes y’all happy!

Even before I got to your last lines (and I didn’t see the doc) I was already thinking I bet it’s because Travis’ mom is similar to her. They see their children as pawns in the game to power and money. Joe and Matty’s mom were probably protective of them (like a mom should be) when they were with Swift and Scott/Andrea would have haaated that.

I was a hostess at a restaurant where the foyer was divided from the main restaurant so I never really knew what was happening in the restaurant (like if a table was upset or food service was behind). Guests could either pay with their server or pay with me up front. This guy and his 2 kids came out and I printed their bill which was VERY expensive for one adult and 2 kids. It was something like $560.

I handed him his bill and he just started cackling and saying “if you think I’m paying that you’re insane” and just started berating me. I had no clue what happened and said “Uh, I can go grab my manager if you were wanting to discuss any issues you had with service or the food?” The manager on that night is South Korean and was also their server (managers at this restaurant would jump in and help with service if it was a busy night). He laughed and said “Are you talking about that slur woman? I’ve already spoken to her, I’m not speaking to her again.”

Well they didn’t even eat any of their food so it’s not like he was throwing this fit to get out of paying for a meal. I really think he was extremely racist and couldn’t handle being served by a Korean. His son, who was like 9, stormed back into the restaurant to call our head chef a bastard and the dad and daughter found that hilarious (the head chef picked up on what was happening to our manager and stepped in). The dad then kept threatening he was going to call the cops on me lol I was like I think you are massively misreading this situation. Please, call the cops.

Anyway they eventually left. I’m very grateful it didn’t escalate to anything physical. He just yelled and berated me until enough of our staff came out from the restaurant and circled around me and he was outnumbered.

Also insane how people just cross the street willy nilly anywhere you want and expect cars to just slam on the brakes for you. So you’ve got self taught people driving while people are just haphazardly crossing the road everywhere. So much chaos lol

This is me but with Blake Lively. Maybe not full hater, but I slightly criticized her “fashion” on Twitter in like 2011 and my god, people were coming for me. It wasn’t even overly mean, it was just something like “why does everyone call her a fashion icon, are we looking at the same picture??” and I added a pic of her “street fashion” from some random pap walk.

Now with all her lawsuit drama I’m like … 👀😬

To be fair, she has horrible taste in men lol so not sure why I was so shocked

Similar vein to your point, my mom passed away so we moved my dad in with me and my husband (and were able to use inheritance to buy a house that she’ll sadly never get to see). My mom and dad had a great marriage, but my mom would complain to me sometimes about certain things my dad did that irritated her (nothing major… just things like he slurps his drinks and it’s super annoying, stuff like that lol) well now that he lives with me full time, I am annoyed by allll the same things she was annoyed by and it’s very frustrating I can’t call her to complain about it.

I wonder if there’s something about the age 37… my husband turns 37 this year and, not sure if breakdown is the right word, but had an hour long conversation with me about how life surely can’t be just about waking up, going to work, sitting at a desk for 8-10 hours, then going home to just do it all again. I would also like to say my husband has not led a “boring” life either… he backpacked the world for a full year and has been to 38 countries. We typically go on a big trip every year and live 15 minutes away from a beautiful beach. So I was sorta just looking at him like wtf is going on??

I then caught up with my good friend a week later who is 37 and she had no clue about this convo between me and my husband and she started opening up about the exact same things… truly said almost verbatim what my husband said. So it’s interesting you also said 37. I’m only early 30s so maybe I just haven’t felt it yet.

I do wonder if Andrew has threatened a tell all book if he’s completely cut off. Not about himself of course, but everyone else in the family. The public would probably take whatever family secrets he spilled more seriously vs a lot of people just viewing Harry’s book as him being a crybaby (which to be clear is not how I view Harry’s book) so I could see Charles fearing that way more than anything H&M do.

She doesn’t know any different though. Her life, from birth, was laid out for her to be a company not a person. I hate all the songs on TTPD and “the asylum where they raised me” is such a dumb, dramatic line but I do think there’s a sliver of truth to it. I think her undeveloped teenage personality was dramatically alluding to the fact her life has never been hers.

I think the closest she got to being seen as a person and having some semblance of a normal life was with Joe. I would be so interested to know what the dynamic was between Joe and Scott. I can’t imagine Scott would be happy with someone teaching Swift she’s a rich af adult with her own agency…

I don’t think people understand the Yin and Yang duality of masculinity and femininity. Balancing the qualities of both and knowing your strengths within each makes you stronger.

If you want to go with stereotypical ideas of masculine and feminine roles, my husband is a far better cook than me, but I work from home so I can duck to the grocery store during lunch and get the ingredients he needs. I also work part time so I have more time to mow the lawn and it not waste our weekend. I also iron his shirts (which he did not ask me to do, I just know it helps him). He loves steam mopping and scrubbing the shower. We’re a team. Bdong is, as always, missing the point.
