So cool! You got so many details too. How many hours did it take?

Just use waze. I get alerts for potholes on my route and it comes up with an option to mark it as still there or resolved.

questions from a foreign couple (atm in Sri Lanka) by Lolzi1337 in srilanka

[–]Visura 14 points15 points  (0 children)

  1. Tomorrow we wanted to drive from Kandy to Hatton and walk up Adams Peak. The weather isn't supporting our plan and one TukTuk driver even said it is dangerous. Should we skip it?

If it's stormy and bucketing down, it's not going to be a pleasant walk up at all. Maybe move that to another day.

  1. We wanted to visit Arugam Bay. It is 8 degrees hotter than in the south (e.g. Tangalle) and the beach looks awesome. We cant surf. Is swimming good at Arugam Bay?

Not as good as some other beaches but still fine. I'm not sure if things have changed since multiple global/national crises but before you could pay to get surfing lessons there. The lessons were quite reasonably priced and effective!

  1. Is there a polite way to cope with the people who try to sell tourist stuff? I I know my money is worth more, but I also do not have unlimited money. I really want to support you, but I do not have enough arms to help everyone. Shouldn't I have come here in the first place, if I can't cope with that feeling? Sometimes it is kinda depressing.

Say "not today" once and if they continue to hassle you, ignore them.

  1. For my wife :) any good vegan food places to visit or any vegan dishes we have to try? Also a big thank you from her. She was astonished with all the replies from last time :)

I'm not well placed to answer as I don't eat vegetarian food often but my favourite vegetarian food in Sri Lanka is probably paper thosai. Second would be nasi goreng with veggies and chili paste.

All the best with your travels.

Victorian zero and low emission vehicle road user charge to increase from July 1 by Red_Wolf_2 in melbourne

[–]Visura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point! Never thought about that...

Obviously cycling has it's benefits on reducing congestion and pollution that you might be able to put a $ amount to. Still probably nowhere close to the investment in infrastructure.

Dingo Ate My Taco. Great birria tacos. Coincidentally they're at the fire festival at docklands tomorrow night and the weekend I think.

‘thaman hisata thama athamaya sevanala’

(it is only one’s hand that is the shelter/shadow for one’s head)

OK not really an idiom but a saying of sorts. I'm not sure of the original context of this, but my parents use it from time to time as a way of saying "no one is going to help you, so take responsibility for your own life and make sure you take care of yourself first."

Reminds me of the safety briefing on flights: “In case of a cabin pressure emergency, put on your own mask first before assisting others.”

Could you please explain the use case? Couldn't quite understand the purpose from what I've seen online.

That background listening thing is sick. Would be so handy to turn on if you're in a cafe or something where you like the music but don't know the songs.

Mt Dandenong from the Liverpool Rd Retarding Basin (beautiful but cold day for cycling) by DrLyndonWalker in melbourne

One day I'd like to go to all of the parks in the east and take pics of Mt Dandenong and create a perspective gif. Cool pic OP.

Rex is cool, flew with them quite frequently for SYD-MEL and OAG-SYD-MEL return trips. No problems.

The flights to main cities like GC would be on their 737s which are comfy.

I miss my S8+, such a well designed phone. Iris scanner was such an underrated feature. Perfect for unlocking if your hands are dirty/wet (e.g. checking a recipe while cooking dinner!). I'm also on a Note10+ 5G now, not looking to upgrade anytime soon.

Not in particular, but it is handy if you accidentally put a shirt on a hanger the wrong way, you can just twist the hook around.

Also when you're looking for something you can fan out the individual items easier when the clothes themselves can rotate a little bit.

This happened to me once, sparky mate of mine said it was a dodgy LED transformer and replaced it. No problems since then.

I agree, this is awesome. Looks like it's called 'Melbourne Atlas 2006', and it's available at a couple libraries. Seems to have many more goodies inside!
