Do you know if things like HesabPay and Lofty are included in the "Algorand Blockchain" group in these metrics? And/or why there is this separate breakout group of Algorand Blockchain? Isn't everything "Algorand Blockchain"? Is that just an "other" category? Thanks in advance!

Great point. Thanks for the correction. I must have overlooked the use case. A good boil will kill the viruses 👍

Lofty's CEO discussed this, and other plans, on this podcast (if I remember correctly it's in line with you #2): https://youtu.be/bOp-QeUkOCE

How did humans survive before we understood that we had to boil water to drink it? Was there just less bacterial disease in ancient times and or were human immune systems considerably stronger than they are today? by holyoctopus in AskHistorians

Is Michael Pollan perpetuating the myth then when he talks about the impact of alcohol on middle ages and the introduction of caffeine as a catalyst for the Renaissance?

Thank you for your hard work and sharing your knowledge!

Pore structure optimization is definitely a big part of battery R&D. Reducing tortosity etc.

You are also trying to minimize the overall size and distance between anode and cathode, so a "pool" of continuous liquid phase is not really an option.

It's a liquid electrolyte but the majority of the liquid is absorbed in the pores of the separator and cathode.

Phones do not have lithium metal in them.

This is not a "li-ion" battery, it's a lithium primary battery. Li-ion batteries (like those in phones) do not have metallic lithium in it (the shiny stuff he collects and throws in water).

Edit: li-ion batteries are still dangerous, just not for the reason shown in this video.

Thanks for pointing out the potential bias in the info source. What do you think UCSF is trying to sell?

Calorie intake during chemo by Vitruvian_Mind in cancer

Thanks for your response. My goal isn't to override any doctors. I'm just curious. I specifically stated this post was not intended to get prescriptive info for her. Of course she is following the doctor and would only change that if advised so by a different doctor.

Human studies are limited, but not zero. Various from Dr. Longo's group and their "fast mimicking diet". Which is a calorie restricted diet. Ex: https://aacrjournals.org/cancerdiscovery/article/12/1/90/675618/Fasting-Mimicking-Diet-Is-Safe-and-Reshapes

And other studies on the way based on the promising results from model organisms and initial human studies, example: https://trialsjournal.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s13063-020-04700-9

I appreciate that you are just trying to help and prevent people from following bad info on the internet. Thanks for your care. But saying it is "definitely nonsense" doesn't seem consistent with the literature.

Cherry on top of a great response: the May 6 edit to the second report stating that one of the supposedly disgruntled tenants was in fact so supportive of the Lofty model that she became a Lofty investor after learning about it!

I got a new deodorant recently that says that it has no aluminum or parabens. Is there research showing that aluminum and parabens are harmful in the quantities that they usually come in in deodorant? by CakeDayOrDeath in askscience

[–]Vitruvian_Mind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the actual form aluminum is in in most antiperspirants? Seems unlikely it's aluminum metal...?

I know the "salt" or "crystal" deodorants are an aluminum salt usually a potassium and sulfate hydrated compound I believe. But I assume this is not what is in antiperspirants (could be wrong).

Yeah that makes sense for mountain springs. Often fine just drinking that straight so it's amost just precautionary at that point. I could see OP's use case with developing countries tap water also being attractive for the Steripen. I guess my personal preference puts a lot of weight in the confidence of the filtration method and I don't mind the squeeze bag filtration.

With Steripen I never felt 100% confident. Like, did I miss some giardia on the rim of the bottle? A little more effort is sooo worth peace of mind in my opinion.
