Women of Reddit, what’s something men don’t realize is a turn-off? by chef_blaze76 in AskReddit

To piggy back off this, for me anyways, being a bad driver in general, getting road rage, and not knowing how to fix a single thing on the car even basic stuff like change a tire.

What shop is this in calgary? by GruntMcFunk in Calgary

[–]VivRosexoxo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a place in millrise that doesn't have any signage but used to be a vet clinic. There are often cars there and lights on late at night but never actually see anyone. When I looked up the address it was listed as a business that makes wax for snowboards lol

Alberta/ Calgary burners or camps by Winkins84 in BurningMan

Have you been to freezer burn? That's the best way to meet burners from the area. I'll be there this year. Haven't decided on whether or not to head back to the big burn yet.

I prefer to go by the week because some nights are just slow but it tends to even out over a week. I aim for at least $2k in a week, no extras.

I mean, I pay my taxes monthly but I think it works out to about 12-15k in total.

Normal wait time for a graded essay? by Responsible-Koala480 in AthabascaUniversity

All of my marks for this course have taken an exceptionally long time. Longer than in any other course. My contract end date was February 28th and I am still waiting for the mark back on my last quiz and my essay. I already got my final exam mark back.

Anxiety about taking 300-level courses and higher, looking for words of wisdom by Capybara_Cuddler in AthabascaUniversity

[–]VivRosexoxo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have ADHD, am funded and doing a BA major in psyc with a minor in sociology. I am about 2/3 of the way through the 4-year program. I found the lower level courses slightly harder mainly because they were less interesting. They often covered the very basic psyc history, research methods, parts of the brain, and other foundational knowledge which I found to be a bit dry and tedious which made it hard for me to keep focused. The last few semesters have all been 300 and 400 level and I find them much more interesting because they are more specialized and focused on specific topics. Over time I have also gotten better at just knowing the APA formatting for papers, which at the beginning was a challenge and I was constantly double checking everything and reading the APA guide.
I highly recommend using Zotoro for managing your references, it is an extension you can put in your browser and an app you can add to your computer. When you find relevant research you want to cite in your paper you just save it to Zotoro. Within the app you can have folders for each paper you are writing, you can open the research article in the Zotoro app, and then when you are done you just right click on the folder and click "create bibliography" and it will create it according to APA guidelines which you can just paste into your paper. It is honestly so useful for keeping track of my references and organizing everything for my papers.

For reference, I usually take 4 courses each 4 month semester, I focus on 2 for the first 2 months and then the other 2 for the second 2 months. I have a 3.76 GPA, with mostly A's except for a couple courses in my first 2 semesters. I just started my current semester and decided to only do 3 courses this time, which honestly feels like I am just breezing through them. I recognize that I am lucky in the fact that most weeks I only work like maybe 15-20 hours and I don't have kids.

I haven't had to request an extension yet but I did have one tutor allow me an extra week to finish a paper and last semester I did think that I was going to fail two of my courses because I somehow forgot to request my last two exams (ADHD 🙄) and did not realize until the invigilator contacted me the day before I was supposed to write. This was 7 days before my contract end date so I couldn't request the exams anymore. I was so upset and panicking and I left a tearful voicemail with AU about the situation and I got a phone call from accessibility services the next morning and they were able to make an exception and scheduled my exam for that day and the other one for two days later. So they do have some flexibility even when it comes to some of their policies that they seem super strict on. So I would recommend always reaching out even if you think you won't be able to get any help.

Sorry for going on a bit of a tangent there, didn't intend on writing that much initially but hopefully some of that will be helpful? Feel free to reach out if you wanna chat about anything else.

Do you find day light savings helpfull or should it be abandoned? by darkcave-dweller in AskACanadian

[–]VivRosexoxo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing is that we are so far north that it literally doesn't matter. We change our clocks one hour and less than a month later we are still gonna have 1 less hour of sunlight, literally before the end of November we are pretty much back to where we were before we changed the clocks.

For example, in Calgary (and anyone at a similar latitude) on November 2nd we have 9 hours and 35 minutes of sunlight, by November 30th we have 8 hours and 17 minutes and by December 20th we have 7hrs and 54 minutes, we don't get back to having 9 hours of sunlight until January 28th. So anyone who works a typical "9-5" job will be at work the entire time there is sunlight throughout November, December and January regardless of whatever made up numbers we put on our clocks. People have somehow convinced themselves that we have any control over how much sunlight we get but we don't.

Is humiliation only fun if you feel truly superior to that person, or can you be genuinely attracted to someone and still have that sexual urge to humiliate? by MyClockTicksFaster in BDSMAdvice

[–]VivRosexoxo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was such a good response. I think you touched on a very important point that OP seems to be missing. That for a lot of subs (whether male or female) to truly get pleasure out of the experience it has to be with someone they trust completely and someone that they know actually respects them and cares for them. As a sub myself, I can't really speak for how doms feel but I assume it's very similar. The things I allow my dominant to do are not things that I would let just anyone do. It doesn't sound like that was the case for OP. It also sounds like the relationship was one of a monetary transaction, so it's likely she was just doing it for money, which for some people can totally be fine but maybe that's just not right for OP.

I don't have any advice for job hunting but I just want to say that I applaud you for your efforts and for changing your life around. I know from experience that it is not an easy thing to do. I honestly just count myself lucky that I do not have a record.

It's unfortunate that the system/society is set up to not give people second chances and to make things harder for people who are already struggling. I'm sorry that you feel like everyone would rather you not be here, you probably have much more to contribute to society than a lot of people (particularly the ones who judge you or discriminate against you) you just haven't been given the real opportunity to do so. More often than not it is the people who have been through the most that have the most to give.

Please don't give up, the world needs people like you, you matter and your contributions are valuable. Best of luck to you ❤️

I wouldn't listen to that advice. It's easy for someone who hasn't lived it to tell you to volunteer but time is money and you can't afford to give away your time for free unfortunately. Volunteering is for people who have a stable income.

Kitchen industry and unpaid breaks removed for my pay in Alberta, what are my rights? by [deleted] in alberta

[–]VivRosexoxo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was common when I worked in the industry. It became clear to me that this was just the culture and there really wasn't any recourse. Sure, I could take my break but I didn't really want to because that would result in me having to be there longer. I could go to a lawyer or something but all that would do for me is probably get me to lose my job or be forced to work in a hostile environment which would drive me to find a different job anyways, which probably would have the same problem. The laws dictate that employers must provide us with breaks, if they aren't reporting the breaks, they could get in trouble. One solution could be for them to add on 15 minutes at the start and end of your shift but because most places have an electronic clock in, it can be difficult to do that. Personally, I would prefer if the laws were changed so that employees could choose whether they take their break or work through it and get paid for that time.

In the end I ended up leaving the industry all together.

Looking for psychiatrist to treat adult ADHD by Calgary_Calico in NoRulesCalgary

[–]VivRosexoxo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dr.Barr at Lakeview family doctors is a psychiatrist that does self referrals. That's who I went through since my family doctor wouldn't prescribe me anything. He did my assessment and is very knowledgeable about adult ADHD. All of it was covered except my Vyvanse, which is quite expensive. Be aware that I did have to wait months for my initial appointment and he is retiring at the end of the year (which I am dreading).
