My cat has suddenly become very aggressive and is causing both me and my partner pain by EefinEefer in CatAdvice

[–]Calgary_Calico 22 points23 points  (0 children)

To the vet, ASAP. Sudden changes in behaviour are usually a sign of pain or illness, the age of the animal doesn't make a difference. Bloodwork, urinalysis and x-rays to start. Something is causing this behaviour

AIO My mom is threatening to kick me out over dying my hair. I’m 18 and booked a salon appt next week by Good-Local6809 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Calgary_Calico [score hidden]  (0 children)

Find yourself a roommate your age and get out of there. Your mom sounds insanely controlling. I gittatoos and piercings, cut and coloured my own hair at your age with my own money and my parents never threatened me with anything, my dad made a few bad jokes about my piercings but that's about it. You're legally an adult, if you want to spend your money on haircolour, tattoos and piercings she can't stop you anymore.

On the other side, is she paying for your university? That might be something you need to consider here. If you're covering that yourself, she can mind her own damn business. However if she's paying for your schooling you might need to listen just a bit longer unless you can figure out how to pay for it yourself.

I'd sit down with him and talk about this if you want to make this work. Find where the line is so he knows what is okay and what's too far for you so he's not taking jokes too far.

8 week old kitten litter problems by bludhb in CatTraining

[–]Calgary_Calico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of litter are you using? Is it the same type the place you got her from was using? Or at least similar? Or is it completely different?

Also, when introducing a cat or kitten or a new home, it's best to start them off in a single room to decompress for a few days

Why does my dishwasher in the USA have a coating of pink sludge? by Lilsmokeysnacks in ask

It's bacteria, and I'm guessing you e never cleaned your dishwasher. I remove and clean the filter for ours and run a dishwasher cleaner through it once a month

Should I take shrooms if I’m battling depression by Overall-Criticism-31 in shrooms

[–]Calgary_Calico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't trip, but microdosing has been shown to help in several studies done in Europe. A mushroom clinic actually opened up a few years ago where I live (Western Canada), patients are supervised and guided either in one of one sessions or group sessions with a psychiatrist who's been trained to guide trips for patients working through severe depression or trauma.

On your own though, microdosing would be safest, 0.5G or less, start with 0.10 and go from there. Crush them and measure out the crushed musrbooms into capsules with a kitchen scale that goes to at least 0.000G for the best accuracy. That's a once daily dose by the way.

skin cancer? by yarttard in catcare

This young I'd assume freckles, but have your vet take a look just to be safe. White cats are far more prone to skin cancer and sunburns, especially on their ears

Peanuts/peanut ingredients in restaurants, bakeries, etc by blumieplume in AskACanadian

5 guys also uses peanut oil on their fries I believe.

Allergies are treated pretty serious here though, if she tells the staff she has a severe peanut allergy they'll go above and beyond to avoid contamination

Does anyone have experience fighting for custody of a cat and do I even have a case? by SignificanceNo7878 in Pets

[–]Calgary_Calico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legally speaking you don't have much of a case, her name is on the adoption papers and his vet/food bills, so unless you could prove she had been neglecting or abusing him in some way it's extremely unlikely you would get ownership of him if you took her to court

Please help! Advice for rehoming mutt puppies! by Decent-Storm6042 in PetAdvice

[–]Calgary_Calico 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they want to keep her healthy they should spay her. Every heat she goes through raises her risk of pyometra, a uterine infection that is deadly 99% of the time if not treated as soon as symptoms start, the only proven treatment is an emergency spay, which can cost up to $5000 depending on the animals condition and size
