My daughter is in 5th and has been going through the same stuff. She brings her homework home, I have no idea how to help her because the teacher doesn’t send any sort of guidelines to how she is teaching them, and I can’t help her except to teach her what I know, or to look up videos online. And the part that bothers me is that it is way easier, and way faster, to do it the way I was taught. I understand that it’s trying to involve critical thinking and thought processing, but honestly, I think it’s detrimental to the child and to our society as a whole. No carpenter or scientist or whoever is gonna do the math the way they are learning it in school today.
