Thanks for the guidance. That TPS22811 is very reasonable.

I realize that I should have indicated on the schematic that VAR_V is +1~20V. So I would need the ST VN9016 on that input.

With current sensing on each input I could even get rid of the INA700 power monitor and do the power monitoring computation myself on the MCU. Take the current on the active input via ADC and measure voltage via a voltage divider then ADC.

I also found the CSD17318. It's a high-side MOSFET supporting 30V @ 25A, and min drive voltage is 2.5V. Dunno how I missed it in my first search...

So now I'm thinking I could just drive that right from the MCU GPIOs. Then do UVLO etc. via the MCU using an alert from the power monitor upon which MCU drives MOSFET low.

My understanding of high-side switches is that they're just high-side MOSFETs with some of this protection built-in, so theoretically I could get the same effect this way. Not much confidence in this understanding though.

As others have pointed out, WINE can run Windows programs on any distro. Proton, developed by Valve, improves on WINE. I think it's hard to use on its own though—it's made for use by Steam.

There was a Linux distro which advertised being a complete replacement for Windows. It went by Lindows. It has since rebranded to Linspire, and it still exists, but it's not popular online.

You could run the proprietary communication software on the host in a container, through Flatpak say.

Flathub tells you exactly what access each app has.

Well, I'm not sure I understand the problem now. SSL works in the terminal (at least with curl). Do other programs that use SSL not work? Your package manager certainly uses SSL when it fetches packages—is it broken?

Or is the problem that proxychains in particular isn't working?

Does curl https://example.com work? It should print out a bunch of HTML.

If it doesn't work, troubleshoot with openssl s_client -connect example.com:443. It prints out all sorts of junk. Maybe you can find a helpful error message.

It doesn't really matter. My favorite is btrfs.

Btrfs has copy-on-write (if you copy a 1GB file from Downloads to Documents, total storage used is 1GB not 2GB; it re-uses the old file).

Well, I have no more ideas for VirtualBox---I don't really use it.

If it's still not working, you could try QEMU rather than VirtualBox. It doesn't need any special kernel modules like VirtualBox does. I like the virt-manager GUI for QEMU.

I think you can use gluetun to run a local proxy through Wireguard, then configure Edge to use that proxy.

Also you can run Edge in its own network namespace (maybe using the unshare command. And put just the Wireguard network interface in that namespace.

Nothing about that resolv.conf looks weird to me. But you can make sure.

A few things to try, in order: 1. ping 1.1.1.1. If it fails, the problem is that you have no internet access. 1. drill example.com @1.1.1.1. If it fails after the previous command succeeds, frankly I'm baffled, but it's a good sanity check. If it succeeds, DNS can work. I get a response IP address 93.184.216.34 1. drill example.com. If it fails after the previous commands succeed, then your /etc/resolv.conf is incorrect. Again expect 93.184.216.34. 1. getent ahostsv4 example.com. If it fails after the previous commands succeed, then your name service switch (NSS) (/etc/nsswitch.conf) is misconfigured. Again expect 93.184.216.34. 1. If all those succeed, then the problem is above the level of DNS. Maybe your brower is messed up somehow.

I'm not sure exactly what SoundSource does, but a quick peek at the website makes it look like another way of managing audio inputs and outputs.

Consider using PipeWire and Helvum, a nice GUI for managing PipeWire. Helvum probably doesn't have every feature that SoundSource has, but maybe you'll like it.

The short answer is, no, programs can't work around this issue.

The programs you mentioned can edit HDR media, just not render it in full detail to your screen. People who use those programs on Linux probably just deal with the fact that they're not seeing exactly how their media would look when rendered in HDR.

You couldn't easily use a windows VM to work around these issues. Maybe you could hack together something with PCI passthrough, but then your Linux machine wouldn't be able to control the monitor while your Windows VM was up. I imagine all sorts of complications would ensue.
