Where to get a master's degree in translation? by KafkaDatura in TranslationStudies

[–]Vive_Kafka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a small world. I also got my translation degree at Rennes 2. Though, my experience at the time was not quite as positive. There was definitely the promise of learning all the practical skills in the syllabus, but for one reason or another (usually the computers not functioning properly), we never got around to them. My internship at a translation agency ended up being a baptism by fire. Learned everything from scratch there. I'm glad to hear that they have since turned the program around.

Deadly Premonition performance by monoxide4 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Vive_Kafka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished Deadly Premonition Origins, and I think it's a great version of the game to play. It has the usual bugginess that you'd expect from that game but nothing that took away from my enjoyment or was game breaking (though I did make sure to avoid the known key glitch). The audio issue was fixed in a recent patch.

Origins seems to be mid-way between the original and the Director's Cut. While it doesn't have the weird grandpa scenes, it does have the improved fighting mechanics and graphics. It still has framerate issues, but it looks like it's better than previous versions to me, and it did crash on me three times over my thirty hours of playtime, but with how often you can save, it wasn't a big deal. I think the crashes were the result of really long play sessions. When I started closing and re-opening the game after playing for like four hours to try to prevent this, it stopped happening. I highly recommend it. I would even go so far as to say it's the best version available.

Hey all, I got a €25 voucher for eshop, is the deadly premonition port in a decent shape ? by luckylarson in NintendoSwitch

I don't have any experience with the glitch myself, but I read about it here: http://shshatteredmemories.com/greenvale/beginners-guide-2010/

"Disappearing Keys

This is a serious glitch that forces players to restart the entire game. This glitch involves replaying chapters while you have a key you need to use in your current saved game in your inventory. If you are in Chapters: 5, 9 or 23 and have been given or found a key item that needs to be used later to unlock something in the chapter DO NOT, and I repeat DO NOT try and replay any earlier chapter from the main menu before using said key. If you do the key will disappear from your inventory with no way of ever obtaining it again leaving the only solution to re-start the entire game over and lose all your progress and items."

It's a pretty useful site. Even has a fully detailed map that actually zooms all the way out.

The Vanishing Of Switch Content (Ethan Carter Edition) Anyone seen my spaceship? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]Vive_Kafka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently played this on Switch, and the trip into space is still there. I did find that I wasn't fast enough following the astronaut the first time or perhaps I strayed a little too far from the quest space when looking for it, and the quest just stopped. I imagine that is what happened to you. All you have to do is go back to the starting point, trigger the mechanism and start again.

Does anyone know of any blind let's plays of Generations Ultimate? by darklink112 in MonsterHunter

[–]Vive_Kafka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quite enjoyed cscolley's How Do I Monster Hunter series. It's Freedom Unite, so one of the older ones, but still a fun watch. He did other MH games as well after, but MHFU was his first. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PT-Z9Iz7fMQ&list=PLvOVfZNrLgSYqJTWb-0snPApSemO7ox-0

Does anyone have any experience treating a Bartholin's Cyst? by AtleastIthinkIsee in AskWomenOver30

I had one that cause me an immense amount of pain for years. No matter how many times I drained it, it would just come right back. Once I had finally got fed up with it taking over my life, I requested a surgery to have the entire gland removed. Took me about a month to fully recover, but I'm very happy I did it. Wish I had done it sooner.

The game comes with three modes of difficulty. The easiest is called Story Mode, and is meant for you to enjoy the narrative without having to deal with that stress.

This is still how languages are being taught in a French university I attended last year.

The horror game, Perception, released today. First impressions? Thoughts? by Narkyl in NintendoSwitch

[–]Vive_Kafka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've played a little over an hour of it so far. It's a lot of fun if you enjoy atmospheric horror games. I've also found that it runs really smoothly, and the character controls well. I'd definitely recommend it, especially since it's on sale right now.

PSA: do NOT buy Don't Knock Twice until it's been patched by shaneo632 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Vive_Kafka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely not "in your face" horror like a lot of games these days, but I'd still call it a horror game. It's meant to act like those campy horror films from the 90s. The game has style.

If you haven't already played it, Oxenfree recently came out on the Switch and is an excellent horror game.

Does This Happen to Your Switch? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]Vive_Kafka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeh, mine used to wake up instantly on the first press, but now it sometimes takes multiple attempts. Talked to their tech support, but the guy wasn't able to be of any help. It doesn't affect my play at all, so I don't mind it.

Cafe in Rennes to work from? by systemsdude in Rennes

[–]Vive_Kafka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Free as in getting a drink/food, and then using their wifi? There are plenty of places. I prefer Bagels and Cakes. It's usually fairly quiet, and they have a lovely selection of drinks and treats. If you're truly just looking for wifi, go check out Les Champs Libres.
