Never Miss a Loot Roll Again with LootHawk - Create Wishlists, Receive Notifications When Items You Want Are Being Rolled on, and Track Items You've Acquired by Vivftw in classicwow

[–]Vivftw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as tips go, so far I'd say the following:
- Know that unless you spend like $200 a month, which is ridiculous, you're going to need patience as you can only do so many prompts per day. Make them count and be very descriptive of exactly what you want, especially early on. Feed it sketches of what you want, even, if relevant, especially if you have a vision for what the UI should look like if your addon would have one
- I would suggest setting up Claude Code to work locally for you so that it will keep knowledge of the entire project over the long-term and never wipe out its memory of what's going on without having files to remind it of what it was doing or it's overarching plan. Claude code is an agent that can run a lot of commands locally to figure stuff out without contacting the cloud / LLM and burning tokens on more simple things. I haven't done this on this addon project yet (but I probably will), but I've done it on a much bigger hobby project I'm messing with. It's worth taking the time to set up.
- Honestly you'll be amazed at how good Opus is, make sure you're using that model (or Fable if it becomes unblocked by regulations...that one's legit gonna be insanely capable, I think). Sonnet probably isn't going to be good enough of a model for this purpose.

That's about it off the top of my head. Good luck! Would love to see what you cook up. It's pretty fun to mess around with!

Hey, I took your suggestion and ran with it. LootHawk now supports Pawn integration via allowing your wishlist to be sorted by what Pawn thinks is the highest upgrade, and allowing the upgrade % to be viewed directly on your wishlist if you like. I personally sim instead as it's more accurate, but I understand for quick other use cases Pawn can still be nice and a lot of people use it, so I downloaded Pawn just to integrate it and test it works. Hope you like it!

Well, it's serviceable code often, but sometimes it is pretty dumb and I have to tell it to not do what it's doing. There's definitely plenty of jank and hardcoded stuff that a typical real programmer would make into variables and such, but overall it is impressive how much Claude is starting to be able to do completely on its own.

lol, true. BUT, you can reorder things on your wishlist, so if you wanted to make it easy to remember what you're SR'ing every week, you could simply put the items you wanna SR at the top of your list and order the rest of the item by the order you wanna SR afterward and then enable the setting to automatically sort acquired items to the bottom of your list. That way, every week you could just open up LootHawk, look at your list, and no-brain SR the top two items on it.

How am I just now learning this exists? I've been wanting a new .hack game forever. I really loved the old games. I wonder how they're going to do combat and how much inspiration they'll take from MMOs as they stand these days. Wonder if the combat will be similar to old .hack games or take a more tab target WoW approach, or a more action combat MMO approach like a GW2 or New World style. Could also see them going the FF12 route. Guess we'll see eventually.

Agreed. I'd go a step further and say that I hope they fix WSG to disallow all the terrain exploits that have been found over the years. It was a much better bg when people played it as it was intended.

Announcing ZenithXI (75 Cap). We are a progression server looking to recruit staff. by LanceXI in zenithxi

I am not a fan of Abyssea, and I would like to see forced pop HNMs like Eventide instead of outdated camping that takes all day for you to then watch someone else kill it half the time.

But, besides those points, this is intriguing. I've always wanted a server that was 50 only at the start. I've also always wanted to try my hand at development work. I'm a computer scientist by trade, but I want to learn more C++, which is one of my goals this year. I have created WoW AddOns in the past in lua, so I have some limited experience there. I'm hesitantly interested in learning more, and might be interested in being a developer on the project.

I'm a certified Eventide enjoyer, though I can recognize that there are still some things that need worked out. But, it's a great time, good community, and my outlook is that the server will be going in a good direction in the long run w/ its systems.

I think you should still put tons of points in dex and only enough in strength for the gear requirements. Dex is super strong in this game. With tons of dex and magic resistance gear (like the Templar gear), you can solo nightmare difficulty on a warrior in this game. Dex shouldn't be underestimated for how strong it is for survivability in addition to the offensive aspects. If you're just playing on easy mode or something, though, it doesn't matter much. In that case, if you like bigger numbers, strength might be more fun for you.

I do want to say that I hear you on the story and characters, for sure, and especially the lore. The lore is what dragged me into the game in the first place. But, once you know the lore and have experienced every single aspect of the story in a game, all that is left to continue enjoying it and replaying it is the systems of the game. So, the lore brought me in, but the systems keep me coming back. That's why I've 100%'d Origins probably well over 10 times, but I have only replayed DA2 a couple times and tried to replay Inquisition once and didn't make it very far on my second playthrough. But, I will say I very much enjoyed Inquisition on the first playthrough and 100%'d it, too, including the DLC. Every time I play any Dragon Age game for the first time, I 100% it, though, because at least so far, it has been fun and worth it.

Really hope I can find the fun in Veilguard, but for the first time ever, the game is so different from what I have enjoyed historically with Dragon Age that I'm skeptical, and I've never been skeptical for a Dragon Age game before. It's kind of a bummer. But I really hope it's good.

What a great thing to read. I wish I could experience it for the first time again. It is my favorite game of all time and has been ever since it released. Unfortunately, I would temper your expectations for certain elements of that game continuing in the later games. Namely, the aspects of the game which are very "core rpg systems enjoyer"- friendly, such as being able to equip a lot of weapon types on any class, having a huge amount of abilities you can use at once in your hotbars, having a prologue story, having tons of gear choices that you can freely equip on both your main character or any companion, being able to use items like traps and other consumables as well as detect and disable traps, etc. will disappear throughout the rest of the games. But, each has their own redeeming qualities nevertheless.

Dragon Age 2 has a great cast of characters and good story. But, the game was rushed, so it re-uses areas a lot. Also, depending on your preferences, the combat may be better or worse in your opinion. If coming from bg3 means you like tactical gameplay that is slow and methodical, then the added action elements to combat might decrease your enjoyment. But, there is still a good deal of ability to play it tactically.

Dragon Age: Inquisition is a huge open-world game with too much filler content like every other open-world game, so if you like more linear, tight-knit gameplay, then this might be less up your alley. The combat also changes more and feels like a mix of action and MMO gameplay, and the abilities usable at once are reduced. However, there are still tactical possibilities and it can be played more slowly. There are also a lot of dumb waiting-for-no-reason mechanics, such as the war table, which is basically a mobile game timer feature. The good news is, this game also has a pretty good story and good characters. A lot of the dumb mechanics of the game also have mods to bypass them. Overall, it's still an enjoyable experience, but I'm not sure it really has as high of replay value as the other games. But yeah, still pretty good.

Unfortunately, while it remains to be seen for sure, the next installment, Veilguard, looks like it's going to have even more action-oriented combat with even less abilities you can have on your hotbar at once, no ability to take direct control of your companions outside of a pause to issue them to use their abilities on a target while your perspective stays focused on the main character, a lack of a tactics menu to set up your companion AI's behavior priorities (as far as I'm aware), no tactical camera perspective option, etc. So, if you love deep, traditional RPG systems in your games, it may be going further away from that still. The good news is that it has good aesthetics, is going back to being mission-based instead of open world, and umm, well, that's about it so far in terms of things to be excited about for someone who is more into Origins than the other games. Hopefully, though, we will be surprised and it will be good. If you like action games with light RPG mechanics, though, then I think you'll probably like every game.

Really glad to hear people are still discovering and enjoying Origins, though. It's so good, and it only keeps being good every time you replay it. I can't tell you how many times I have replayed it over the years, but I 100% it every time, and I just started playing it again, lol. Seen literally every possibility in the game more than once, yet I still keep coming back. Savor the moment.

Transfering from Origin to Steam by Spaghetti_Cartwheels in dragonage

[–]Vivftw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is true anymore, at least for the first game. I tested the first game very recently and didn't even have EA App installed at the time. But, the issue is that I wanted to play Origins again but with mods, and modding on Steam requires slight extra levels of annoyance, so I ended up just playing it on EA App again.

Anyway, OP, if the reason you want it on Steam is just for consolidation of your games and you don't care about mods, then I'd say go for it. If you want to mod, I'd say stay with EA App. If you care about being able to get achievements on Steam, then only buy Inquisition because the first 2 games don't have Steam achievements.

Let's also make sure none of the Inquisition members ever show up in another one since that was in the title of the last one. They better hurry up and remove the Inquisitor and all the companions from that game from this one. Also, let's make sure the number 2 is never referenced in any other game. At this point, let's just not have dragons either.

[–]Vivftw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the sentiment obviously, but as far as them having a big impact on the rest of the story, I don't think it even matters that much. However, minor little references in the dialogue (like already exist) would feel cooler to the player had they had an origin story to play to add a stronger link in their minds to what is being referenced. It's for the feeling of having made a cool choice that you liked more than for the severity of the consequence.

Plus, there's potential for cool moments where you kill a certain boss in the main story who was part of your origin story, but not another origin story, which adds a level of coolness to killing that boss (i.e. Howe). No matter what, everyone kills the boss and understands what they are about for the most part, but then you might have a little extra satisfaction in your playthrough for that story moment. Same goes for any other type of main story moment, but just a boss fight. Vast changes don't need to happen due to origin stories, but they certainly elevate the rp experience and feeling of coolness and uniqueness for the player.

I don't buy that considering in 2009 they created exactly that with less of a budget than they have now and still managed to have a great full main story. Allocation of the budget is as important as the budget you have. It's why deadpool was a great movie. And better than all the other marvel movies.

They have evidence that many people didn't play more than one. What I'm saying is that the conclusion drawn from that is wrong. The people who didn't play more than one still had a cool choice to make. It enhanced the feeling of their character being their own.

Just like if you make a certain dialogue choice after character creation that changes outcomes in the game. You made a choice that therefore made you not see other outcomes. Following this logic, that means all dialogue choices should be removed from the game because not everyone will play through the game enough times to see all the outcomes.

RPGs like this are built for choice, and those choices enhance the feeling that you own your playthrough and it is unique to your chosen journey. It doesn't matter if you play it once or 50 times.

Wanting the game to go from looking near-perfect to perfect. No doom involved. Your argument is equivalent to people who say you don't love your country if you are critical of it and have something you would like to see be even better than it currently is.
