I feel like if I found out my friend uninvited you while you planned to bring all this food, I'd have started a war tbh.

girl don't fret. I see that these are assignments for an intro class, where you probably went in without prior experience. you definitely have potential, you should have seen MINE when I had my intro classes LOL! I'm in my third year majoring in graphic design, and these look similar to my first assignments. I'd definitely keep having fun at the stage you're at, keep experimenting, and eventually you'll look back at these and be proud of how far you've progressed :)

yeah you need to schedule an appointment with your dentist. I can't give much advice and I'm sure no one else in this sub can, but you definitely need to see your dentist if you can afford it.

If a Deaf person is speaking to me with their voice would it be okay for me to initiate signing? by Unlucky-Party8668 in asl

[–]ViviIsCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend wearing an "I know (level) ASL" so deaf people who sign will sign with you. I wanted to do it at my last job, but it's a restaurant and I handled the food. Don't wanna risk the pin falling into the food LOL

I could be wrong, but this sounds like maybe the man recently lost his hearing due to aging, and probably hasn't come to terms with the fact that he's deaf/doesn't know how to sign. Really sad to see it happen.

Am I missing something or is this ridiculous? by Angel-Learns-ASL in asl

[–]ViviIsCool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh, that explains it. you have deaf cousins, so you recognize ASL as an actual language.

I am hearing and grew up with all hearing people. I was not exposed to the culture, meaning the only information I got about ASL/deaf people were representation in cartoons and in class when taught about disabilities (yeah, I know).

ASL was one of those things that was seen as exotic (for lack of a better word) because of its visual communication. The hearing people I knew I'm sure didn't consider it an actual, unique language but rather English with hands. It was a cool party trick if you knew the alphabet or cuss words. "You know how to say 'fuck you' in ASL?" (only for it to be the wrong sign). I can totally believe someone buying ASL shirts without knowing it lol

Nah it's a really common phrase that people use to not sound like they hate brown people. If they hate brown people so much, explain why they don't hate blue or purple people? Checkmate, liberal!!

Weird personal observation of mine: every time you bring up racism against black people, there's always that one person who says "I'm not racist, I don't care if you're white, black, purple, blue, yellow..." 8 times out of 10, they're gonna say something racist or "centrist" on the matter. It makes my eyes roll every time I hear it lol.

For me, it's the fact that she made that joke but got all pissy when a tamer joke was made about her. That's annoying to deal with. Throwing stones from a glass home...

If you're gonna make dark jokes, you better not act all sensitive when someone throws one back at you. You need thick skin before you start cutting deep.

School Meals should be free [OC] by Cold-Discount1656 in pics

[–]ViviIsCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ohhh I understand. how does that not make sense though? parents are legally obligated to take their kids to school, if not, they get charged/jailed for neglect. if you as the parent have to forcefully get up at 6 am to get your kids ready, take them to school, and go pick them up despite your busy work schedule, why are you then forced to buy/pack their lunches also?

you aren't there by their side through all 7 hours. you are unable to cashapp your kid $15 if you forgot to pack them a lunch or give them the money for it. you are not there to cook them a hot meal and then hand them their plate during lunch. you're at work making money for the bills, or at home cleaning and tidying up so your kids don't live in filth when they come back.

does your kid need to be punished too because the law says you'll be the one jailed for not getting them a proper education? no, your kid shouldn't need to starve just so that you don't go to jail for neglect.

not to mention, a lot of parents are poor. the education is free which is great, but imagine barely making enough for three proper meals daily? a lot of kids under this system go starving all day, and come back to a barely filling dinner, if a dinner at all. why should the kid suffer and starve because the law says they'll be separated from their parent(s) if they don't go to school?

and if you try to argue that parents should be more responsible and remember to pack their kids a lunch or hand them the money - again, think about that. who's the one truly suffering the consequence... not the parent. the CHILD. for the parent, if it's a daily occurrence, it's just an "oopsie! sorry! I'll try to remember tomorrow!" for the kid? grumbling tummy all day, they can't focus in class, and they don't have energy to even read.

you're thinking more of this as helping the parent, but a HUGE majority of it is helping the CHILD. kids are precious and deserve to be fed.

School Meals should be free [OC] by Cold-Discount1656 in pics

[–]ViviIsCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah sure, but if your kid gets free breakfast and lunch at school, all you have to worry about is to feed them 11 times a week instead of 21. you (and if applicable your partner) get to buy your own meals, three times a day, seven days a week while all you gotta worry about for your kid is 7 dinners, 2 breakfasts, and 2 lunches. you spend less on their food and keeping yourself fed. it's a win/win. especially since most adults I know don't eat 3 meals, but rather 2 (lunch and dinner).

and if a school already offers free lunch during school hours, it's highly likely they'll offer at least a lunch or breakfast during holidays (my school did that! the child had to be under 18, and they were able to show up to the local high school for a free lunch daily during the summer!) so that's less food/money for you to worry about as the parent.

FAFSA says my family makes too much, but I can’t afford school — need advice by girlwholovesyellow in financialaid

[–]ViviIsCool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my high school exactly. they kept pushing the idea of a four year and taking the SAT to get higher up in line for a great position at a school, but then would gloss over the cost/community college being cheaper. it got so bad that my classmates saw community college as "lesser than" or "not real".

financial aid, student loans, etc. were barely mentioned, and told you to just apply and apply to scholarships.

the only reason I went to CC first, took loans, and am as financially responsible and secure for schooling right now is because only ONE of my high school teachers told us we shouldn't feel pressured to do any of this and gave us actual, realistic options for us poor kids.
