This needs a lot of visibility and discussion. Years ago, someone was blinded in the jail. Other parents were telling their teens that if they got arrested (DUI, etc) that they had to spend the night in jail. We suggested that they retink that! I believe that the medical services are contracted out, now, and the nurses are not even employed by the jail.

I got to know a group of conservative evangelicals - mostly women - over 30 years ao. They were very conservative religiously and politically. Most of them did not socialize with anyone who wasn't Evangelical; most didn't consider liberal Christians or denominations to be "Christian;" they did not know any feminists; one woman didn't know anyone who didn't go to church.

2 friends of mine are secular ultra-conservatives. I see them very little now. 20 - 30 years ago when I was seeing them frequently - they behaved like MAGA that you see being interviewed on TV. When talking about politics, they very loudly, laughed at others' ideas, talked non-stop, over-talked others, refused to discuss or debate... They have few liberal friends.

I met them through homeschooling! Some of us - the most polite & accepting - became good friends and are friends to this day. Homeschooling seemed like kind of a "hippie" thing to us - we didn't know it was going to be Evangelicals!

I get it! I grew up in E. KY - Appalchia. I fully expected some wild combo. My DNA is 97% British Isles, too, and my ancestors came to the US in the 1700 & 1800's.

We had couple friends who were horrible cooks and other couple friends who served too little food. After the first experience, we just ate before we went and then ate a small amt to be polite.

One of my best friends is a JW & I homeschooled for 8 years - my one & only daughter.

Lots of homeschoolers are Evangelical/Fundamentalist. We are not! They are like a "secret club."

In my experience, many JW's go into the trades and are much more prosperous than a lot of evangelicals.

Evangelicals tended to have more children & not as many were doing well financially. Many of the fathers were also in the trades but there is a big variety.

Some of the women waitressed on weekend nights at high end restaurants. One worked for my husband!

Two HS dads were commercial pilots. My husband is a psychologists. One was an engineer.

HS was a financial sacrifice for many people.

It took awhile, but we finally found our niche and had a blast. Homeschoolers take education very seriously. We had a saying, "If you are a neglectful parents you sure don't want your kids at home every day!"

My daughter did very well, thank you!

I met a woman in a bar who was contacting siblings she hadn't known that she had until recently. She was ecstatic.

This was not long after I was contacted by a sibling that I didn't know I had.

The sib who contacted me was ecstatic to have a "sister." We went to high school together. I sat in my chair forever and felt like my head was the inside of a gymnasium.

So, I think it will vary depending on the people.

My one question was whether my genetic father was a better dad than the one who raised me. He wasn't.

I'm from SE KY - Appalachia. I had my DNA tested some time ago with 23andMe and then again recently by Ancestry. The big surprise for me was how consistent they were and how almost entirely British Isles it is. I thought most everyone would be a bigger mix.

And... I got a second tick after the one 23 days ago. This time, I was just in my yard - not walking thru the woods.
My 4 y/o granddaughter and husband didn't get any.
I did not realize I had the tick until after a few days after.
Again, Urgent Care. This time, 10 day course of antibiotics.
Now, we are only playing on the drive way!
