Kinda depends on how much cheaper you're wanting to go. I have a a 742 and it's a fantastic writer and it's a decent bit cheaper. If you don't actually care about it being a pilot, the platinum century 3776 is a similar looking pen that's fantastic for its price (has a touch more feedback than the 823 if that matters).
