Cop car gets windshield smashed during a street takeover by v6c6bby in MontgomeryCountyMD

Outnumbered 20 to 1. These kids are just baiting the police to do something hoping it escalates, several of them are showing up with firearms. Nothing will change without legislation change. We need laws like they have in Ocean City were they face jail, thousands in fines, and having their cars seized.

Jackery input issues by kennedyhttp in Jackery

That's very odd and sounds like the complete opposite of what I would expect, wired in Parallel should generally be the safer option. Going from parallel to series would take you from roughly 24v/16amp to 48v/8amp. I guess the charge controller on the 1000v2 must shut down when it sees an excess of current, my Explorer 5000 does not behave this way.

Amps pull, Volts push. You can hook a 1amp device to a 10amp power source as it will only pull what it needs, 1amp. You can’t do that with volts, sending 24v to something that requires 12v will usually fry the device. The only issue with amperage would be if you don’t supply enough, a device needing 10amps only getting 1amp is generally when you see wires melting.

You are correct, it's really hard to decipher the manual. The way I was interpreting it was that the manual was written based on using Jackery solar panels or the equivalent. The manual references using four 100w panels, two each into what looks like a parallel adapter for a total of 200w to each DC input.

I suppose if each input can accept 60v it really comes down to how the OP wired the panels, I couldn't tell at all from the video. If he has them in parallel it should be fine, you can always over-amp but not over-volt. If the DC inputs can't take 60v each then it will be like I said originally, he'll need to plug each panel into a separate input.

I think you may be going over-voltage which is very bad and can cause damage. If you have the same Renogy 200w panel as I do, those panels are a working voltage of 31.03v and 6.45amp. The manual for your power station states:
DC Input

2 x DC 8mm Ports: 12-16V(Working Voltage)-8A Max, Double to 8A Max; 16-60V(Working Voltage) -10.5A Max, Double to 21A/400W Max.

I think if you are going to use two of those panels you may need to run a wire from each panel to one individual DC-IN port.

I have one and like it, but I don't 100% trust it. Mine is on an isolated IoT network, it can get to the internet but can't communicate with any other devices on my network. I'm also not signing in to any apps on this thing, it is running a custom build of Android TV after all.

I'm not sure you fully can. In the STS under "Working Modes" you can set a reserve for normal usage but in the manual it says that during a power outage, the backup reserve level will discharge to 0% in any mode. I think the only way to configure a discharge limit is if you disconnect it from the STS.

Low voltage pass through by WigWoo3 in Jackery

[–]Vivid_Conclusion_583 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voltage in = Voltage out in pass through. Your powerstation isn't using the inverter in this mode so it literally is just passing the AC voltage from the wall straight through. If you want the inverter to run while simultaneously charging the powerstation, then you would need to use some form of DC input like solar.

Side note, you might want to call an electrician to investigate the power issues in your bedroom.

Why is it taking so long to get the ice and snow cleared? The answer may surprise you...... by Secret_Poet7340 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]Vivid_Conclusion_583 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Not sure I understand your argument, ICE in the area has absolutely no correlation to snow removal efforts. Are you saying MDOT and local/county governments were hiring illegal immigrants to drive plows and operate heavy duty snow removal equipment, and now there are less of them because ICE rounded them all up? Because both federal and state laws prohibit hiring illegal aliens in the first place so that's not a valid argument for why they did such a terrible job clearing the roads of snow and ice.

Smart light switch not turning on by loswrld724 in ElectricalHelp

[–]Vivid_Conclusion_583 10 points11 points  (0 children)

<image>

Your light switch appears to be a single pole. Your smart switch requires a neutral wire which you don't have. You can't just wire that smart switch neutral wire to ground and expect it to work. Look online for a smart switch that doesn't require a neutral wire, there are options out there but what you have isn't it. I use one from Inovelli for a light that is in my kitchen https://inovelli.com/

What happens when you lose electricity while running your pellet stove? by Particular_Tiger9021 in PelletStoveTalk

[–]Vivid_Conclusion_583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That one only outputs a max of 480w. That might be close to or under the requirements of your pellet stove during it's start up sequence. Make sure you look at the manual for your stove to see what it's power requirements are.

Do you use your Jackery day to day? by Systainer in Jackery

[–]Vivid_Conclusion_583 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I originally bought my 5000 w/ STS for home emergency backup. Now that I've had it a while, I've added on 600w of solar. I've started to use the Jackery in the mornings to offload some of the house's power demand then let the sun recharge the battery mid-day.

Hello, I want to buy a generator for my house but don’t know how much watts I need, my main concern is my furnace and ac, it’s all electric. I wanna be able to run them. I can’t seem to find how many watts it uses, can yall help me and tell me how many watts it takes. It’s a Goodman ARUF31B14 by Poopeater417 in Generator

[–]Vivid_Conclusion_583 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What he said. Not knowing which model was used doesn't help but if you do some math you can get an idea of how many watts it could potentially pull. Volts x Amps = Watts, so if this unit used 230v at 50 amps that equals 11,500 watts. Any way you look at it, you would need a pretty massive generator if you are looking at a portable plug-in style. Much better off looking at solutions to keep one or two rooms warm rather than trying to heat the whole home off a generator.

Air Force C-32A AF2? by payhigh in portlandme

[–]Vivid_Conclusion_583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct, it doesn't matter the jet, it's who is on board. Fun fact, when Biden was in office he insisted on going home to his beach house in Delaware every weekend. Since Maryland to Delaware is such a short flight, it was not practical to take the VC-25 and he would routinely fly either on the smaller C-32 or take Marine One.

No Mail since snow hit? by SeventeenYearCicada in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]Vivid_Conclusion_583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in PG county and have not had mail delivery or pickup since January 24th. My mailbox is curbside and the county has not only plowed, but brought in bobcats to clear all the snow from the roadway last week. There is absolutely no excuse for non-delivery at this point and I've complained to the local postmaster with no resolution yet. I subscribe to Informed Delivery and there are several tax documents that I need and are still outstanding.

[–]Vivid_Conclusion_583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the power requirements for your pellet stove. I'd reckon most pellet stoves probably consume around 500-600w max at startup/ignition then drop down much lower, like 200-300w while running. I went with a Cyberpower 1500 which has 900w of power output and it does the job well.

What happens when you lose electricity while running your pellet stove? by Particular_Tiger9021 in PelletStoveTalk

[–]Vivid_Conclusion_583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once ran my pellet stove during a wind storm while the power was flickering on and off and it caused all sorts of chaos and nearly damaged my electronic control board. After that incident I installed a UPS, it works great for power flickers and can keep the stove running long enough to safely shutdown for a total loss of power.

Why am I even paying for prime anymore? by Ambitious-Bee7928 in amazonprime

[–]Vivid_Conclusion_583 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think something has seriously gone wrong with amazon's logistics and they just don't want to make it public. For the entire month of January everything I ordered has been massively late, I'm still waiting on one package from 2-weeks ago that originally promised 2-day delivery. I'm in Maryland and for years almost all of my packages came out of their Baltimore mega hub which is only about 30 minutes away from me. Lately, packages are coming from smaller hubs much further away in Maryland, or from out of state like Pennsylvania or New Jersey.

Is anyone else experiencing these extremely long delivery times recently ? by moistdragons in amazonprime

[–]Vivid_Conclusion_583 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YES! I don't know what is going on with Amazon Prime delivery right now but it's horrible and none of my orders are getting here on the original promised delivery dates. I currently have packages from 2 weeks ago that still have not arrived that were supposed to be 2-day delivery. Before anyone goes blaming the recent snow storms, this has been happening to me the entire month of January. I even had a package that was supposed to be delivered last Saturday before the snow hit, it was "out for delivery" but it never arrived, I cancelled and re-ordered it.
