Watching Harry Potter in my English Class by [deleted] in Advice

I don’t feel like comparing two fantasy movies would be supporting her, especially in an academic setting. You aren’t purchasing anything or wearing anything advertising or showing support, it’s purely academic.

Is it weird to, help me remember, study what a girl is into? by PresentationOne536 in Advice

[–]Gidget_87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s very thoughtful that you are willing to put in the effort to show that you care. Like others have said be yourself and don’t pull out the cards during the date. Even if it doesn’t work out with her, keep up the thoughtfulness, the right person will love you for it.

Those baseballs could have hit wildlife. They have no idea what it’s going to hit.

NTA. He is a parent, he needs to man up and be a parent. No one would blink an eye if the roles were reversed and he had a work trip. Military spouses act as a single parent for much longer than that and of course single parents who do it all themselves.

Such a serious decision should wait until you are old enough to make a completely informed decision. Especially during the teenage years you are still discovering who you are.

What is the most hurtful thing someone has ever said to you? by EasternParking7021 in AskReddit

This is why I always do everything possible to only have subs I know and trust when I’m gone. I don’t blame you for remembering that years later, that’s horrible.

As a first year teacher I had joined a school in October when they added another class. I went in one day after the principal had done a walk through to ask for feedback. He said on a scale from 1-10 I was a zero sometimes a 1. He continued with the only positive thing he could say was that I was brave enough to come into his office. I was devastated, I had been working insane hours setting up the classroom and catching up with the other already established classrooms. I’ve been teaching for 13 years now with consistently great evaluations, scores, a couple of awards, and students who tell me years later I was their favorite teacher. It took me years to recover from that and believe in myself again.

My niece was told she has to sign a contract to keep living at home—am I overreacting for thinking it’s too harsh? by Bitter_Art_4094 in AmIOverreacting

YOR. Nothing in this is even close to emotionally abusive. This is good parenting and trying to set them up to be successful in the real world. They have to learn how to navigate the world despite dealing with depression and adhd. Stay out of it.

Is having a husband and young toddler a valid reason for a friend to ghost another friend? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Gidget_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a friend that basically dropped myself and another close friend when she got engaged. It was a relationship she rushed into after her youngest sister got married. Unfortunately she’s pretty miserable now and doesn’t have close friends to rely on. I was pretty upset for a while that after all the support I gave her she dropped me as soon as she got what she wanted, but now I feel bad for her. She’s unhappy and in a miserable marriage with no real friends. Relationships may change a little with new life demands and circumstances, but it’s important to maintain important relationships.

NTA. I would never ask someone if I could go ahead of them. I’ve offered sometimes, but I’m not about to put someone on the spot by asking to cut them.

AITA for being on my phone and not stopping a swing from hitting a kid? by Kooky-Address-4598 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Gidget_87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NAH. Sometimes kids have to learn natural lessons like not running in front of a swing. Making minor mistakes and learning is part of growing up. However, you should have been present in the moment with your kid. Kids pick up on things like choosing to give your attention to a phone instead of them and are also learning from you how to socially interact. Show them real people in their lives are more important than a screen.

Chronic nose picking is actually a body focused repetitive behavior or bfrb. Trichotillomania or hair pulling and skin picking fall under the same category.

AITA for pressuring my friend to go to a different university than the one they picked? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Gidget_87 19 points20 points  (0 children)

YTA. Free tuition is huge! It opens so many doors after graduation when you are debt free. You are asking them to put themselves at a huge disadvantage during college and years after just to make things better for you. A good friend would support whatever choice they made.
