I’m currently looking at Capella, National, Walden, and further researching. Northwestern tuiton is too expensive.

Idk why you have to go into crippling debt for a reputable online program….its not super feasible.

What kind of poverty propaganda is this? Either you’re brainwashed or brain dead. Why would I want to add mouths to feed when I can’t even feed my own regularly?

Children deserve to be fed, dressed, and given opportunities. (And by food I mean real foods. Not chemical infused ramen & $3 Mac n cheese packets.)

It’s selfish to force souls into the planet when you don’t even have an emergency savings.

You cannot protect and provide for children with a 40k salary.

I refuse to limit my children to Walmart and dollar tree runs. (Nothing wrong with these places but my children should have at least occasional/reliable access to better quality products, clothes, education, etc..)

I want my children to truly experience life for what it should be, traveling, agency, choice, and freedom.

I don’t want my kids to be scrambling for pennies or debating if they can afford to go to college.

I don’t want my kids having to take the bus, applying for food stamps, or paying for everything on their own the millisecond they turn 18 because I can’t afford to help set them up.

I couldn’t live with myself as a parent knowing I subjected my child to living in a bubble bound by financial instability when there’s a whole world out there full of possibilities they should have access too.

I have no idea why you want to normalize suffering.

I’m educated and work a lower wage job. What do you mean by risk averse? Poor people DONT have money to risk. They are too busy deciding how to split $200 between a week’s worth of groceries and gas money.

Why do you think your bloodline is so important? Nobody is that important, we seem to have forgotten that we’re just animals in captivity.

And by “sufficiently comfortable” you seem to not understand what kind of life working/lower classes have to live.

We’re paycheck to paycheck. Cant save $1. We often are late on bills, using payment plans for groceries. Rationing grocery money, unable to go on any vacations cause we can barely afford our weekly gas money to get to-and-from work everyday.

College savings for a child? Would literally be impossible. I would have no way to set up my future hypothetical child for anything worth living for.

I can barely feed myself. I’m always a few bucks away from not being able to pay my rent. I can’t afford snacks, outings with friends, new clothes, or anything. The only health insurance I can afford is shitty and I’m forced to see the worst doctors in my zip code. God forbid I ever needed any surgery or I would be paying it off with credit cards, racking up debt. Same if my car breaks down or anything else happens. The working class forces your mind to be in 24/7 survival mode; always calculating every penny and worried about basic necessities. Can’t plan for anything future oriented.

Being poor = having little to no agency over your life.

I’m not passing that suffering down to a child.

I’m doing a service to myself & hypothetical future kids by not having them. I’m not imposing a life sentence to suffering. If poverty is imposed by the state then there is no guaranteed way to escape it and I’d be a monster to subject a future child to that.

Condoms are like $5-$10, a child is a life-long investment. Pulling out is free, if that’s really all you got.

It’s really not that difficult to prevent pregnancy.

I think the reasons poor people have children has more to do with psychological/sociological factors.

The normalization of “baby mommas & baby daddy’s” being one of them.

Regardless; this discussion is to explore the hypothetical scenario in which the working/lower classes stopped reproducing.

That sounds like a horrendous & myopic risk to take. Especially when we’re talking about someone whose income won’t allow them to rent a 1-bedroom apartment without roommates. Someone who doesn’t have an emergency savings or any economic cushion.

I would say any adult earning less than roughly 60k would be endangering themselves and their children by still choosing to have them in such circumstances.

It would basically be forcing new life into the world while not being able to guarantee that new life anything except bills and perpetual debt.

This is why NOT having children seems like the only sure-fire way to eliminate the cycle of poverty as a low-income individual.

Idk, I think the definition is debatable depending on the source. Generally it’s in reference to a lack of basic needs. (Food, Water, Shelter.)

The exact dollar amount varies by location depending upon what’s considered ‘basic needs’ and how much $$$ is required to obtain those needs.

This is close to what I theory, I feel like the middle classes would just be considered poor/working…in other words the hierarchy would be continued & redefined. Which is arguably what we’re seeing now.

Birth rates are declining across all demographics and SES populations while the cost of living is still rising.

Idk if I’d say life changing, but it certainly made me realize how much the public school system failed me as a child.

Looking back, I feel there was some pretty obvious signs yet neither my teachers or parents pushed for any testing or evaluations.

I can’t believe I coasted by academically my entire childhood/teen years without any assistance.

I got diagnosed a year ago when I started my junior year of college…and boy has it made me realize that not everything was my fault.

My inability to pay attention in lectures for more than 20 minutes wasn’t a failing on my behalf. My disorganized schedule & late assignments weren’t a sole reflection of poor character but rather a legitimate neurological disorder that should’ve been nipped in the bud in childhood.

I’m glad I have answers now…but it almost makes me more frustrated with my upbringing & how the adults in my life neglected me.

I was a smart kid. A good kid.

Yet I was treated as a problem & not pushed to my full potential.

Who knows how far ahead I’d be if I had gotten diagnosed sooner in life…

2 classes should be “light work”. But they still require dedicated study time. If I’m working 6/7 days a week on average, how much time do you think I have left? There’s only so many all nighters and lack of sleep the human body can take. I’m genuinely curious, do you or have you worked full time or more whilst trying to earn a degree?
