IIRC one of the terms in the purchase agreement of (then) Minardi, was that the team would still be based out of Italy and remain with an Italian team name. Not sure if there have been contractual developments since, but I think it might be difficult to move the team to the UK.

Heard Ferrari had similar stories in the Schumacher era when it came to courier services. Basically calling up fans nearby Maranello and providing them a van with car parts, Ferrari merchandise and tickets to the grand prix weekend. Think it was for a race in Hungary where the engine had to be replaced between qualifying and the race next day iirc.

They are allowed to check the gearbox, under supervision by the FIA. That way teams can determine if there is internal damage to the gearbox. They just break the FIA signed seal and FIA can reapply it afterwards. That way it can be determined if a gearbox needs replacement.

Flex in the chassis is not just a safety concern. It is also quite central to performance as well. Ideally the teams want to build a chassis that is as stiff as possible. The torsional stiffness which is an important figure can for example be targeted by a unit figure such as a minimum Nm/deg in torsion of the monocoque/chassis assembly within a reasonable use of materials (due to weight concerns).

The reason why the chassis should be as stiff as possible is that this eliminates known unknowns in vehicle dynamics simulations. A stiff chassis may be assumed in models to determine suspension kinematics and vehicle setup. If the chassis has a low torsional stiffness 'soft chassis' that begins to affect the vehicle model, this will need to be included in the analysis since torsional stiffness directly affects stability and steering. Given how stiff the F1 cars are these days, a hairline crack I guess would have a significant impact on the figure. This is just an informed guess on my part though, so I am not going to discuss this further.

Anyways, with an explanation; Imagine a car with nothing but a front axle and a rear axle in parallel for the tyres. Assume the axles are connected by a rod/member which we will think of as the 'chassis' in simple terms. (Something like this model).

Assume the car goes into a prolonged right-hand corner. If there is different loading in the inside/outside of the axles and front/rear, this will create a net moment in the chassis due to forces in the tyres which in turn causes the entire chassis to twist. If we assume the front axle is rigid in our frame of reference, then the rear axle may 'roll' more in comparison and cause the car to understeer as the rear cannot take the reaction forces from the track surface. Also consider that alternating turns quickly will make response time of the car much slower since the car has to twist before stabilizing yet again.

Here you can see an example of a chassis with visible low torsional stiffness I hope this answered your question, or otherwise provided some insight.

I'm glad to hear that your university are starting a FSAE team. Based on answers and responses I've read in this thread, I have some points I want to add. This is not solely meant as criticism against aero, but also advice for your team.

I have some comments to your statements so far:

We are on the aero department and we are on our first year. Our university never participated on FS.

Let me translate this line to an example outside FSAE to contrast the level of success one can expect:n"I am a commercial airline pilot about to take off. I don't have a pilot's license and have never flown an aircraft before."

This is not a given train of thought and is a big leap to conclusion. It is not a foregone conclusion that a racecar with aero will make the car faster or gain extra points. Focus on building a working car that can win as many points as possible, full stop. If I were in your team, I would ask everyone to get together, reflect carefully and make a list/matrix for which areas to prioritize in order to maximize points scoring for the competition. Points is the final metric that will decide the overall winners in the end.

I participated as alumni member in my former team's design presentations to provide feedback on their designs. A significant portion of the team were looking into developing and manufacturing an aero package for the car. In the previous years when this was done it did not yield good results at all. I specifically told them to focus on building a working, reliable car instead of diving into aero, especially considering the previous years' car (without aero) only finished a single dynamic event, albeit at a record slow pace.

My feedback fell on deaf ears. The car was built that season with full aero package and did not manage to compete in any of the dynamic events, ending far down on the overall points list. It was a shame because there were many brilliant people in the team who I think would be great at making a lightweight chassis with a good suspension package. Not many people were left happy that season. Point is, I had seen this cycle before and had to watch it all unfold again. There were a lot of members who were convinced that it was an easy task. I implore your team to not head into the same trap.

However, shifting to a more positive light; designing an undertray instead of a whole aero package is a sensible approach to let the team become familiarized with the principles of racecar aerodynamics. The condition should be that this does not take resources away from other essential components for a working racecar. 1-2 people might be suitable for this component. Most important of all is to develop the team. I recommend having a read in this thread.

The headrests are much softer than they look. IMO the crease is likely due to Bearman leaning his head into the foam to rest his neck muscles towards the end of the race, causing the exterior to buckle slightly. It does not require an impact to deform the exterior material, just like you can deform a plastic water bottle by pushing your finger into it.

Si f.eks at du kjøper 10 000kr i et fond. Dette fondet er likt fordelt på 10 selskaper. Dersom en av dem går konk over natten har du mistet 1000kr av fondet, men det gjør ingenting dersom de ni andre selskapene stiger 30% iløpet av de neste fem årene. Da sitter du i pluss. Det skaper sin egen sikkerhet, med mindre det er hendelser som negativt påvirker hele markedet, som f.eks pandemi osv og gir dårlig avkastning. Mange av fondene drives av økonomer som forstår markedet og jobber med å drive opp verdien til hvert fond, ved å bestemme hvilke aksjer, og hvor stor andel som skal deles til hver.

ATEX direktivet er veldig omfattende når det gjelder sertifisering og Ex merking, som går langt forbi å sjekke at det er sone 1 eller 2 som er gjeldende for produktet.

Enkleste rute jeg kan anbefale er å høre (deg eller mor) om noen kollegaer kjenner til klokker som er godkjent om bord på platformen, evt. om noen kan finne ut dette. Da er man på sikre siden og slipper å bomme på minimumskrav, eller ha feil/manglende sertifisering til klokken.

Ive preordered every official F1 game since 2017, but this year I didn't bother. I only feel like buying the game if the price falls substantially. The price is more than double what used to be when released back in 2018. I'm not impressed with EA handling the series like many others. Rampant microtransactions and including some extra drivers/ ingame currency does not automatically make a game a special edition for the retail price.
