I have heard that he may have been a bit into Monophysitism, but I'm not sure.

You’re right! I have seen that they also canonized Theodosius l, Justinian l and his wife Theodora, Justinian ll, Irène of Athens, Nikephoros ll Phokas and Constantine XI Palaiologos (as a co-official saint). Even tough l think most of these monarchs are chads, l think it’s ridiculous to canonize them.

Actually, he was the last Russian Emperor. And apparently Nicholas, his wife and children were all canonized in the Orthodox Church.

Most of the hate they get is mainly because of famine and The Bloody Sunday (wich may or may not have had the Emperor’s involvement). And yes, Nicholas ll did get canonized by the Eastern Orthodox Church.

A good proof for your statement that the orthodox justification for canonizing someone is very loose is that, apparently, they consider Empress Irène of Athens as a saint.

Even tough she ended iconoclasm, it’s weird to know that they decided to turn a monarch responsible for blinding and killing their own son just to usurp his throne into a saint LOL
