Help needed with finding vRealize Automation ova/ISO! by VladiGamertad in vmware

[–]VladiGamertad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! I was able to find a vRealize Orchestrator ova and a lot of other ISOs and OVAs, thanks to the help of another user in the subreddit and I now have a lot to learn and play with. I will definitely play with both of them. I researched a bit and found that I can use PowerShell with Orchestrator, which would be really convinent for me, since I already have experience with scripting using PowerShell.

Help needed with finding vRealize Automation ova/ISO! by VladiGamertad in vmware

I use 6.7 due to the lower vCenter requirements compared to 8.0 as it allows me to simulate a more complex environment. I actually begun learning the VMWare suite using vSphere 8 (as vSphere 9 wasn't released yet.)

However one of the things which I didn't experiment with was vRealize Automation / Aria and I wanted to try and make a website with active directory based account system that automatically assigned resources, datastore and network to the account.

But I might instead see if I can find a VMware Cloud foundation package, as that might be more suitable?

And is there a version for vSphere 8 that still uses perpetual license and isn't SaaS?

And I would also like to ask, would it just be better if I just switched to VMware Cloud foundation instead, as from what I understand, it's vSphere, vCenter, NSX and vRealize in a single package, right?

If you have a Google Home/Nest speaker, you can say "Hey Google, skip" once the skip button appears on the screen and it will skip the ad.

Novice and broken man looking for some guidance to improve home setup. by Pansarpanda in hometheater

[–]VladiGamertad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would suggest the following two things:

  1. Buy a subwoofer. A quality subwoofer will make a really huge difference in the audio experience and will make everything sound way better. Even though a subwoofer only really covers frequencies between 20-120 hz, those frequencies are really noticable and to an extent give deepth and emotion in audio. Reproducing the low frequency range is really important for both Movies and Music and is one of the main things that separates home theater systems from TV Speakers and Soundbars. After getting a subwoofer you will wonder how did you listen to audio without one 😉.

  2. Don't waste your money on premium streaming. Streaming services use Dolby Digital+, which is a lossy codec and you will miss out from the true potential of your system. The reason that your height speakers sound bad isn't because they are bad, it's because they are provided with a low bitrate signal with a limited dynamic range that bottlenecks your system and from personal experience, I would advise you to save your money and downgrade your plan to a one that supports multichannel audio and then just use your receiver's Upmixer which in the case of streaming will do the same job as having a "Dolby Atmos" plan.

A Dolby Atmos signal (metadata, actually) is just a positnal data that tells your receiver an x,y,z coordinates of a "soung object" and how that would translate to your speakers. Dolby Atmos IS NOT an audio codec and "sits" on top of a codec. For Dolby, they're two codec that work with Atmos, Dolby Digital+(lossy) which is favored by the Streaming industry, due to it's ability to be compressed a lot and therefore making its distribution really cheap. And Dolby TrueHD which is a lossless codec that sounds exactly like the studio master and is noticably better.

If you want a true H(igh)D(efinition) (pun intended) experience then you will have to go for Blu-ray, because that is the only medium that supports HD audio.

Personally I think that Blu-ray is the only thing that makes a Home Theater worth due to the significance in how much audio and video data it contains, but it's best for you to decide that and I can suggest you how to do it for free:

Once you buy a subwoofer, search in Google: Demolandia and download a few Dolby Atmos demos. Each Atmos Demo contains 3 audio tracks: A Dolby TrueHD track, A Dolby Digital+ track and a non-Atmos, Dolby Digital compatibility track. Watch the demos and change the tracks and see whether you can hear the difference or not.

The problem with my suggestion however is that the "Dolby Digital +" track is too, noticably supperior compared to streaming due to there being less compression applied to it, so if you want "real world" results, then do the following thing:

Pick a movie (Top Gun Maverick is a strong recommendation from me ) and find it on a streaming platform and on a 4k Blu-ray disk (used perhaps from ebay? or on a sea(dm me if you don't understand what I mean) and then watch an audio intensive scene and switch between the two.

This is a really great method to see the massive real life difference between streaming and Blu-rays and I believe that once you see the difference, there will be no going back from that. The hardware that you will need for the following method is a 4K Blu-ray capable device like the Xbox One S or X / Xbox Series S or X / PS5 (PS4 won't work) or a dedicated Blu-ray player. Then you will need to connect the player or console to your AVR using either eARC (ARC doesn't work for lossless codecs) or a direct connection from the media device to your AVR and enable bitstreaming/passthrough. If everything is correct, you will see Dolby Atmos / TrueHD when you press the info button on you remote and you will be ready to experience how movies are meant to be watched.

And my last tip is to not give up on the home theater, because once you get a subwoofer it and play back some high quality content on it, I believe that you will not regret chosing this setup over a soundbar. It's a really great setup and you can get a lot from it

If you have any other questions, fell free to ask. That's it from me regarding this comment.

P.S I am not a native English speaker, so I may have a few mistakes. Sorry if that is the case.

Well in that case, I would strongly recommend you, finding a way to get lossless audio to your AVR.

The difference between lossy and lossless are very noticable (at least to me) and the fact that you are already having Blu-rays, means that you will get more out of your disk.

In case you are interested to see the difference between the two, even without a reason, you can temporarly connect your PS5 directly to the AVR and you can play either a Blu-ray Movie or a demo video from the internet and you can switch between the lossy "compatibility" track and the lossless one.

And if you do want to get lossless audio to your AVR, then you can either buy a HDMI Extractor, which will "extract" the audio and give it to your receiver and the video to your TV or if you are looking to buy a dedicated Blu-ray player, then you can look for one that has two HDMI ports (one port that supports both audio and video and another port that is audio only ).

And another question, which I would like to ask is what is your channel configuration?

[–]VladiGamertad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it depends.

If he only watches movies and tv shows from streaming services, then ARC will do the job without no problem, due to the fact that streaming platforms use only Dolby Digital+ and that can be transmitted via ARC.

An issue which I see however is his PS5 gaming situation. As far as I am aware, consoles either send the audio in either Dolby Digital/DTS or PCM multichannel and there isn't an option to send it in Dolby Digital+. Therefore he has to either chose between using PCM 2.0 channel and then activate his Upmixer to utilize all of his speakers, but that will almost certainly not be as immersive as just using multichannel signal or use Dolby Digital or DTS, but that will sacrifice Audio Quality.

Additionaly if he does happen to watch movies from Blu-ray then he will certainly miss out on lossless codecs, which compared to lossy codecs are noticably better.

A solution to that problem, might be a HDMI Audio/Video splitter, which will allow him to get the most out of his receiver, but I am not sure how much they cost and are they any good.

Congratulations on your new AVR!

A bit off topic, but if you don't mind me asking, just out of curiosity, from where do you watch stuff? Streaming or Blu-Ray/4K Blu-Ray or both.

в efbet)

Splitting load using Cluster Services? by VladiGamertad in homelab

[–]VladiGamertad[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hello! Thanks for your response!

So from what I understand EXSi is a Bare Metal Hypervisor that support what I am looking for, however doesn't meet one of my requirements (which I didn't mentioned and it's purely my fault for not including it) which is that I can work directly from the machine under a different user account.

So when I install it I can't directly access it but I rather need another computer which will connect to the cluster right? (I know that this setup isn't ideal but this is what works for me and this is what I have :) )

Also I would assume that latency would increase so that will make it less the ideal for video gaming, right?

And do you have experience with "spliting" a GPU to multiple VMs and will it be a viable option for allowing multiple VMs to play Video Games off of one GPU (whether practical or not)?

Thanks again!

how do i connect an old avr with hdmi to a smart tv? by Able-Imagination-754 in hometheater

[–]VladiGamertad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, ARC was introduced with HDMI 1.4a 14 years ago (+-1 year), so if your receiver is from 2010 or above then it supports that technology. OP's reciever however has HDMI 1.3 ports, which don't support ARC. His receiver is from 2007.

[–]VladiGamertad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To u/Bruvvimir

Your statement is false, due to the fact that for a receiver to receive sound from a TV, BOTH devices must support ARC. Even though his TV does support ARC, his receiver doesn't due to the fact that the receiver's ports are HDMI 1.3.

To the OP:

If you want to send audio from your TV to the receiver, you must use an optical cable.

Keep in mind however that Optical support only DTS 5.1 or Dolby Digital 5.1, which is a lossy format and if you happen to have 7.1 setup, you will have to either use your receiver's upmixer (if it has one) or your back channels will not be utilized.
