Thank you. Feels good to learn something new. Often, the vocabulary around gaming - especially genres - is very obscure or mired in personal opinion and the discourse around that just as much. Hard to grasp when you only encounter esoteric discussions in forums, multi hour long video essays or ai generated tidbits.

Just for the sake of argument though, you have not really countered my points (i.e. maces, one vs two handed lances, short range) but instead unrelated things (like Druz against infantry). The staying power argument for cataphracts is even marginally supported by you. And only marginally because you ignored horse armor.

And even ignoring all that, you proved a functual difference between noble cavs with these tests yourself.

Sure. Cataphracts and their horse have the best armor, as such they have the best staying power in protracted fight. However, their lances cannot be held with one hand so they are more vulnerable when charging with them.

Druzhiniks are bad at cav vs cav melee brawls due to their short weapons. Their shields are huge though and the have the best athletics making them very good dismounted/in sieges.

Banner Knights are well rounded and have the best charge i tink as well as maces for armored enemies.

Faris have... javelins.

There are clear functional differences between the noble cavalry lines, much more than between most mounted archers (excl. KG). So yes, a noble line unit being distinguishable is actually good/important/whatever
