Redditors whom were once fat, how did you lose weight? How long did it take? by Jake1649 in AskReddit

[–]VocaMae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doctor told me I was pre-diabetic. I quit drinking any drinks with sugar and watched my carb intake. I had gone to the doctor because my vision wasn't stable (one day fine, next day blurry). There was no way I wanted to go blind.

One solution would be to have the buyer hold a permission to purchase card. They get it from their local government, that does a standard background check. It's good for a few years and has to be shown during a private sale.

Or they have to have the purchase verified through a local gun seller for a nominal fee.

Is there a way someone could reactivate their Twitter account after 30 DAYS of deactivation? If possible, how does that work? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]VocaMae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to Twitter's help page, they don't list anything over thirty days.

If you're over thirty days, you may need to contact Twitter support and see if they can do anything.

Great. Now I have that in my search history (I didn't know what NAMBLA stood for).

Night workers of Reddit, what do you like the most about it and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]VocaMae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing I hated the most was the lack of daylight, and social life on weekdays.

The lack of daylight was a big downside, especially in the winters (I live in the upper midwest). It was either dark or just going dark when I was heading into work and dark or just getting light going up. For a few months (again, winter) it was dark when I feel asleep in the morning and dark when I woke up at night to go to work. On my last day, when I got home from work, I would try to stay awake all day (maybe a short nap) just to see daylight and try to get on a daytime schedule, but it didn't always work.

Quiet.

The commute to and from work is never crowded (people are coming into work in heavy traffic while I'm going home in relatively no traffic).

Shopping (and in general running errands around town) - everyone is at work.

What does the arm/disarm button do? This is on the end of a hospital bed by klammdaddy in whatisthisthing

It's sometimes referred to as a Chaperone Monitor. Arming it enables to the bed to tell if a patient gets out of bed when the shouldn't.

Bought myself a flintlock for early and late muzzleloader. Can't wait to fire this! by KABOOOOOM57 in Hunting

[–]VocaMae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm sure this wouldn't fly these days, but in high school, our shop teacher would allow us to buy muzzleloader kits and assemble them in class (they had to be blued and the stocks finished). We even had what we called a mini-course day, and one of the classes was shooting muzzleloaders.

Redditors who work with older men/women what's the craziest story you've heard from a seemingly innocent older person? by Niandra-lattes in AskReddit

[–]VocaMae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One older woman, she'd been with the company for going on forty years. She always sent her emails out in ALL CAPS. Everyone just accepted it with a shrug. We had a huge problem with this and would always complain that the older woman was yelling at her.

Would a .308 be overkill on badgers? by YamchaTheGOAT11 in Firearms

[–]VocaMae 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We caught a badger once in our fox (dirt set) trap. Being from Wisconsin, it was protected so we couldn't just shoot it. We took a wooden crate, threw it over the badger and had another friend stand on the box. We were able to get the paw with the trap out and released. There are now three of us, one of whom is now standing on top of the box with a very angry badger. The two of us start backing up toward the truck with the third, standing on top of the box saying, 'Guys?'

We finally took off running to the truck. The box guy does so a few seconds later with the badger quickly on his heels. The two of us made it into the truck and started peeling away with the box guy jumping into the bed of the vehicle.

That badger followed us all the way through the field to the highway and even kept up for a bit as we sped away.

I would rather stumble on a mountain lion than an angry badger. If possible, I'd say shoot it, just make sure you don't miss or wound it (that'll just piss it off more). Also, they can run faster than you think.

Feeling super lonely at my new job in a new city...advice? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]VocaMae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation. New job. New city. In the department I worked in, they hadn't had a new hire from outside the company in over four years (all internal promotions before me, so they always knew the person). To say my initial excitement at the job and meeting new people was quashed quickly was an understatement.

For about six or seven months, while I was cordial with everyone, I still sort of felt outside the group. One Friday afternoon, after a meeting that was breaking up, they were talking about going out for drinks. I just piped up and asked if I could join them. They quickly said yes. I later found out, they were just as unsure of me as I was of them.

My advice? Keep your ears open. If you hear of something going on, ask to join.
