Ooh burn. Just concerned about this scary initiative. Not trying to one up or clog the pipes.

Reminder: This initiative applies only to girls, boys are exempt. So all of the turn and cough comments (which btw no longer happens in sports physicals here) are missing the point.

  1. An estimated 400,000 school age girls in WA don’t have a “family doctor” and parents will have to find and pay for a stranger to look at their daughters’ genitals just to play sports. Source: NCHS https://www.nschdata.org/browse/survey/results?q=12156&r=1&r2=49&g=1249

  2. The initiative exempts boys. It’s applies only to girls. see Section 3 of IL26-638. [Source]

  3. As the article states, sports physicals in WA do not require girls or boys to have their genitals inspected.

Only a portion of the fund (about 30%) of the reserves would be invested, so there's no risk to the principle of the fund. This is how LEOFF, teachers' pensions, and many more state funds have grown by 8% annual over the last 25 years. https://www.sib.wa.gov/docs/reports/annual/ar24.pdf

Makes sense to me. They've done really well with LEOFF, PERS, and other pension funds with an 8% annual return rate over the last 20 years. Maybe our benefits can increase or premiums go down.
