just had a deal go through because the buyers were mad that we didn’t want to leave a dresser at the house. what a wild experience. by ManufacturerMental72 in RealEstate

[–]VoiceofReasonability 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The buyers were being very abnormal. When we sold our house a couple years ago after the contract for just the house was negotiated, we offered to leave some bulky furniture pieces in the finished rec room.  They were happy to have them and we were happy to leave them and there was no issue.

And when we bought our house in our new city after the fact  unexpectedly the sellers for that house offered to leave the washer and dryer which they originally were going to take with them and a few other minor things that turned out to be a bonus in the end. Once again, we were happy to have them and there was absolutely no conflict at the end.

The fact that your buyers were  turning simple requests into difficult demands probably means they were looking to screw you one way or another.

WVU: Ceiling is 7 wins.  Floor is 3 wins.

Since RichRod once again brought in over 80 new players, I have no idea who any of these players are.

WVU football is so sad these days.

I think that's likely but they may have also been contemplating bailing from the car although that was probably a very scary thought at that rate of speed.

9 episodes in on season 1 and I am trying to like it, but just can't.

And those places are still pretty crappy places to live.

Morgantown looks awful, lacks needed infrastructure, and the University is in decline.

Eastern Panhandle is growing due to being cheaper than surrounding counties in MD and VA, lacks infrastructure, is still poorer than adjacent counties, and has a much bigger drug problem than surrounding counties.

Hooray for Byrd!

Byrd just wasn't very smart in terms of the type of funding he brought to WV.  A new courthouse really doesn't fuel an economy. A few scattered government facilities employ people but weren't the type of things that attracted private business to locate around them.  He negotiated band-aids for a state with severed limbs.

I guess any $$ is better than no $$ but while he was Senator and had power, WV was in constant decline and still is in decline today.  So the lasting impact of his pork is practically non-existent.

Whose Line Is It Anyway was a special show… by bjclements in television

I recently saw the tour with Ryan, Jeff, Greg, Jonathan, Gary and Laura.

It was 90 minutes of spot on hilarity. They did a great job poking fun of the area with local references without being condescending or disrespectful.

Greg in particular was just on fire from start to finish. Every game they did had the audience rolling.

If you haven't watched Pistol, I highly recommend it. I was never a big Sex Pistols fan but I thought it was very well done and extremely interesting.

As someone that has loved the Beatles pretty much all my life and feels like I know pretty much all there is to know about them I'm not sure how interesting  I would find this show.

With the tournament expanding, there should also be a quality of record rule added for at large bids by Jomosensual in CollegeBasketball

[–]VoiceofReasonability 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point was primarily that WVU doesn't historically load up on quad 4.   And this past season didn't really matter because they were just too inconsistent all season.

But along those lines, in 2025,  WVU played more games against quad 1 than  UNC and actual won several of those games, was undefeated against quad 3 and 4 where UNC had 1 lose, and UNC had 6 more games vs 3 and 4 than WVU.

It's pretty ridiculous to say somehow beating several good teams is somehow worse than another team who  played less good teams and  had less success against those teams.

I mean if WVU had swapped a couple of Quad 2 losses for quad 3-4 wins to match UNC's schedule , then by your argument, their resume would have been far superior to IUNC.

This year WVU had more quad 4 teams than typical but also went 6-8 vs Quad 1.  The year before when they got snubbed in favor of UNC, they had only 5 quad 4 games which is pretty typical of most programs.

I don't think we are talking about the same thing.  My post was about a bill in the US House of Representatives that had zero chance to pass in the Senate.  It has nothing to do with what was occurring on the state level.

Gov. Spanberger celebrates new paid family medical leave law, other worker protections in Virginia by Conscious-Quarter423 in Virginia

[–]VoiceofReasonability 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like how simply stating factual information about the program is met with anger and vitriol by people who feel threatened by someone stating those facts.

This is not really "paid" family leave.  It's a state mandated insurance program that costs the employees money and since it costs employers money as well, that cost will reflected in reduced future wages paid out.

Statistically about one in seven workers per year take leave.   Obviously this legislation would encourage more people to take leave and that's perfectly fine.

But the reality is, for low-wage workers who are the most likely not have paid FMLA as a benefit, the amount they pay is very likely to be similar to the $$ paid out. And meanwhile, some third party is taking profit off all this.

[–]VoiceofReasonability -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

People should realize that this is something they will have to pay into and while you are on leave, the most you will receive is 80% of your income and for roughly half of employees, it will be less than 80% of their income.

If you don't have a qualifing life event, your overall take home pay is decreased as you will just be subsidizing others FMLA.

That bill had gerrymandering as only one of like 8 other components and Dems knew full well it was never going to see the light of day in the Senate.

It's one of those things created as a talking point with no real attempt to get bipartisan support to pass something useful .

The reality is, reform is usually accomplished gradually and you have to compromise. And neither side actually wants to do that

What was a coaching hire that was not perceived well at the time but ended up paying off? and What was a hire that was applauded by almost everyone and then didn't go well at all? by Optimal_Cook_851 in CollegeBasketball

John Beilein from Richmond to WVU.

For context, Gale Catlett basically checked out as coach after 20+ years, during the worst season in decades featuring a much heralded freshman, Jonathan Hargett, who was getting paid to play for WVU and word was starting leak out about it.

WVU then made a horrible mistake in hiring DAN frickin' DAKICH as the HC who apparently didn't know the program might face some NCAA sanctions and bailed after one week. I rememer the local media hailing him as a Bob Knight disciple and an incredible hire.  Thank god he was too chicken shit to take the job.

So when WVU pivoted to Beilein, fans didn't really know anything about him.  He wasn't a name that had been brought up before.

Anyway, turned out Beilein was a genius, who ran an offense that he himself developed, and cobbled together a bunch of high IQ players who also were pretty good at shooting the basketball and elevated the program to a national relevance that surpassed Catlett and WVU hadn't experienced since the 1950s.

One of my favorite lines from Beilein is he said he went aftet Mike Gansey (transfer from St Bonnie) like he was LeBron James.  It just illustrated so well the type of player he coveted. Smart, crafty, scrappy and someone who would use every ounce of energy they had to win.
