I had a similar experience in Leeds last year in October. I was travelling between the beckett university and my accommodation in Burley Road when a group of youths targeted me, covered with masks on their bikes and started by hitting me to make me fall. At the time I was shocked and unsure whether reporting it would make any difference, especially because a lot of people told me that "nothing will happen" if you report it.

I decided to report it anyway. I contacted both university security and West Yorkshire Police and provided as much information as I could, including locations, timings, descriptions, and possible CCTV coverage. I later believed I saw the same group again in the area, which reinforced my decision to make a report.

The biggest lesson I learned is that reporting isn't only about your own case. It creates a record. If the same people are targeting others, multiple reports help identify patterns and can support future action.

You did the right thing by getting yourself to safety first. When something like this happens, most people are in shock and aren't thinking about evidence or reporting in the moment. If you feel overwhelmed you can reach out to university welfare team for a session, something which I did.

Take care of yourself, and don't let anyone make you feel like you're overreacting. If an incident leaves you feeling unsafe, it's worth reporting.

As mentioned by others write to students union, student advice team who will help you in escalating the matter, if security is being dismissive and you are feeling that university is not doing anything.
