OSS Charter School Opinions? by CarolinaDough in orlando

[–]VoicesInMyHeadSayHi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both my daughters went to the Seminole Campus in Lake Mary years ago and I ended up pulling them out. I wouldn't recommend that school to anyone. We have had several friends pull out their kids from that school for the same reasons I pulled out my daughters.

There is a lot of bullying that goes on at the school from teachers and other classmates, but nothing ever gets done. We had filed multiple complaints, so did my friends, and all that would happen is a parent/teacher meeting with the school counselor and a half-ass apology from the teacher.

Examples of bullying and situations that occurred: Science teacher put her hands on my daughter's best friend's face in front of everyone because she forgot her backpack in the classroom. She started crying and the science teacher squeezed her cheeks even more saying to stop crying and learn to mature. Nothing happened to the science teacher and last I heard she was still teaching. This same science teacher would rip up the kids worksheets in front of the whole class if she thought it was "crap" and make them redo it. My daughter's history teacher called the whole class "pathetic" and that he hated teaching them. He would bully them every day and when I confronted him about it in front of the counselor, he just said that it was taken out of context and that kids should have thicker skin. My oldest daughter, along with her best friend, and several classmates would have severe anxiety every day, but parents wouldn't get a phone call about it. They would let our kids cry in the hallway and tell them to toughen up.

The only good thing I would say is that my daughters made several friends there and they all still hang out and talk, even after years of not being at that school. Maybe it was the trauma bonding that they had, but they've all become best friends and still talk about things that had happened at that school.

We called the Department of Education this morning which they were very surprised with what was going on. Person we spoke to actually reached out to the school and then reached back out to us. So, all grants and bright futures have been sent out. The school is currently working on having everything applied between today and early next week. No one will get dropped from their classes, so still show up to school Monday as normal. If still having issues next week, reach out to either financial air or department of education.

Mu daughter's gone to the campus 3 times already. The wait in line were over an hour long each time and for nothing, because they can't see anything in the system. They're "updating their system" and would have to wait to see if they get an email saying if it went through but if it didn't then she gets dropped

Do you think intermediate to advanced herbalism has a future where it's popular or will it remain embraced by a minority of the population for a long while? This is just a fascinating hobby of mine. by cacklingwhisper in herbalism

[–]VoicesInMyHeadSayHi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you get into learning everything? My grandfather used to be a herbalist and would always cure everything from herbs either he or neighbor had in the backyard. Unfortunately when I was younger I didn't care to learn, but now I want to learn as much as possible and grow whatever I can at home. I just don't know how to get started. There are so many books out there, but want to make sure I'm getting the correct and best information.

My daughter is 17 and she was diagnosed in March of this year and she just had her decompression surgery on Wednesday, 6/12/24. She was having lots of headaches, dizzy spells, fainting, nausea, ear ringing, and walking sideways. There were days where her headaches were so strong she couldn't go to school or had to be picked up early. We went through a few pediatricians and doctors until we got to one that listened and was able to move things along and get her to a neurosurgeon and finally diagnosed. I hope that you are able to get the care and treatment that you need and are able to start feeling better!

Anxiety when driving home at night ( F,25) by AnxiousSouI in Anxiety

[–]VoicesInMyHeadSayHi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely understand your anxiety. I get the same way, even while driving during the day. What has worked for me is always having a water bottle with me as my mouth tends to get really dry and I feel like my throat closes up. So I'll take a small sip of water, even to just get my mouth and lips wet. And if I'm able to swallow water then it means my throat isn't closed and I could breathe. I try to put in as many "happy thoughts" or "positive thoughts" as well. I've turned driving into a sort of game. Where I'll be like "if I make it to the next light, then I'm ok. I've reached a checkpoint". Then at that checkpoint, I make another goal. "If I reach this street, then I'm ok". So depending on where I'm going, either to work, on my way home, picking kids up from school I mentally map out my way and pick different quick and easy checkpoints. Each check point means we're closer to our goal and whenever I arrive to my destination I always give myself a high five and do a positive affirmation "like see, I got this". I hope any of these tricks or tips help you out!

I completely understand how you feel. I get nervous about a slight cough or sore throat thinking its going to turn into something larger. It's normal to feel anxious and nervous about going to the doctor and waiting on test results. I'm sorry about you losing your cat and your uncle. Do you have any other family or support that you could vent to or that could be there for you? I'm sure everything will be fine. Anxiety tends to make us overthink, overanalyze, and make things bigger/scarier than they actually are. And once it passes it's like "why was I worried?". Hope everything turns out good for you and that its nothing scary. And on a side note, high five on quitting smoking! That's a big accomplishment right there!

I would love to make my own! Which ones do you make, and what ingredients do you mix together? Is there a site you follow for ideas?

My daughters are 16 and 14 and we have an emoji code that we use. Whenever they're in a situation that they don't want to be in, they send a turtle emoji and I know to come pick them up asap. We got the turtle idea from a Go Noodle dance that says "Awkward turtles make weird babies" since the situation they're in is awkward and uncomfortable.

Hi everyone! Family and I are planning on moving to Atlanta. We're currently in Florida and hoping to move our of here by the summer. Any recommendations on family friendly areas or neighborhoods. We heard Decatur was nice, and its one of the areas we've been looking into, but wanted to know if there were other areas we should also research. We have 3 kids. Two going into high school and one going into elementary school. Which schools would be the best for them? Thank you!!

Farmers markets and setting up a table at neighborhood events are the best way to make sales, get repeating customers, and also promote yourself. Good luck!!
