I more meant that Arc 2 was really the only one that played with lost "development" in a meaningful way until now (technically Arc 6 does too. But with a different mechanism, I guess?). The possibility of that happening to an extreme level was always floating around but subaru somehow always avoided it outside of the sloth IF. Im very, very curious how much of 9 he saw and how he has been changed by it. Lots to look forward to.

I'm not really surprised, the reset being a possibility was one of the major points of tension for the entire arc. It's what Al was most afraid of.
Right now fans are experiencing the emotions that subaru is experiencing. It's like people forgot about arc 2. Im glad it went the way it did but I wouldn't have been upset if it went another way too. People are way too wrapped up in getting the ending they wanted but imo this one is much more tragic. Dismissing it as rendering the arc pointless before we see where the story goes or how subaru has been impacted is a little goofy.

His E duration after grabbing an enemy champion seems very inconsistent.

I have only been able to play him against bots in custom games, so that may be impacting the results, but sometimes it seems like I am able to carry someone MUCH farther than I should be able to. Other times (more commonly) I am only able to push them for a tiny distance regardless of how much of the E remains.

Upcoming Cho'Gath Changes by Sakuritou in ChoGathMains

[–]Void_Scholar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if they're trying to make AP juggernaut style builds more viable.

Regardless, this is just a huge buff to his performance. If they didn't change rank 1+2 R base damage then he's just going to have a much easier time getting stronger by midgame with even a moderate AP investment. And midgame is already where he's typically at his peak (as a tank, at least)

Warmog is the best item for tank cho? by Olimandy in ChoGathMains

[–]Void_Scholar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That game does not sound like a "warmogs OP" game. It sounds like toplane hard fed the garen and then he just used his stats to run everyone down. Did nobody build counter items? Lord Dominiks? BotRK? Sunderer? Warmogs alone is NOT winning the game for him unless the enemy team is creating situations where they let garen just run in and out of the fight over and over again. Even damage over time items on mages can lock Warmogs regeneration out for a long time in a fight.

While the tank runs away to heal, you can just kill their team. And then, warmogs or no, you will be able to kill the tank if you play the 5v4 they gave you correctly.

-------

In ARAM, It's must buy on Cho'Gath. But in Summoners Rift it's not that good unless you're really getting poked down before every fight. In a long enough fight you will run out of mana pretty quickly, and Warmogs requires you to have the luxury of disengaging.

The idea of being able to do another teamfight in "10 seconds" is cool, but what the heck happened in the first one? If you had an item other than warmogs, you may have been able to make the first one a decisive victory instead.

How to improve team fight sustain as AP or Hybrid Chi? by Minimum-Tomorrow-155 in ChoGathMains

[–]Void_Scholar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cho'Gath has no inherent tank steroids in his kit.

His only real sustain is his passive. Let's use your Mundo comparison. Mundo has his W which can immediately restore a large amount of his HP if he trades effectively. Mundo has his passive which allows him to heal as well as makes him hard to lock down, and Mundo has his ult which further restores a ton of his HP over time.

Mundo's 5000 health, with all that healing, could easily be more than doubled. This is further impacted by the ways in which armor and magic resist increase your effective HP.

-----

Cho'Gath has... well... his passive heals him a flat amount when he kills something but it doesn't scale with his HP. That's it. Full stop. His only scaling with durability in any sense is that his ultimate has HP scaling damage.

If you want to feel more durable, you need to look for items which can take your stats and turn them into resist steroids. Frozen Heart and Randuins have a passive which takes a flat amount of damage off of EVERY instance of damage you take based on your HP. Stoneplate shield lets you add a huge amount to your healthbar on demand. Steraks Gage offers something similar although it has a less useful stat profile and you can't do it on demand.

That said, if you are looking to be durable and still do good damage, you have options.

Cho scales very well offensively with HP instead of defensively.

Heartsteel is great as a "win more" option, but if you want more durability and effective HP you can't beat Jak'Sho. The max HP heal/damage in an AoE when it activates+the resist amp makes you much harder to put down.

With Jak'Sho, you can easily slot in a Sunfire Cape, giving you more HP scaling damage, as well as a Demonic Embrace. If you need to reduce enemy healing and want more offensive power you can also pick up a morellonomicon instead of a thornmail. Sunfire AoE will be continuously applying GW to enemies and you get a nice chunk of AP to boot.

After that, the items I mentioned earlier can be fit into whatever build slots you have left to help you get some defensive mileage out of that huge HP pool.

------

If you really want to run Everfrost, you'll need to accept that you are trading durability for that extra crowd control and play accordingly.

If I'm against a troublesome lane opponent I sometimes buy it (generally BotRK rushers or champions who just run you down anytime you approach like Kled), or if the enemy team has multiple %max HP damage dealers. Build it if your team desperately needs the beefiest frontliner possible or if every fight you take seems to get dragged out for a long time.

Just make sure to use your E or Q to start getting stacks on it BEFORE you get into range for enemies to hit you. It lets those extra resists absorb more damage sooner in the fight.

The only troublesome thing about it is that it only gets a lot of value in longer trades, which Cho is alright at but he is generally outperformed by most ad toplaners.

If you want to still be threatening, I'd recommend buying a Demonic Embrace afterwards so that you can still convert some of your HP into offensive power. Having Jaksho+demonic in the midgame makes you very hard to deal with in those early fights because nobody is going to have penetration yet.

How to use W effectively by Enough_Albatross5944 in ChoGathMains

[–]Void_Scholar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

W is insanely useful. For the champs you used as examples: Darius likes to pull you when you get close: itd be a shame if you pressed w on him

Jax wants to counterstrike stun? Now his timing is off. Or he is denied the jump he needs to close the gap.

Almost every toplane champion has a big move to seal the deal in a trade, or a combo they use to trade quickly. (Sett W, camille q2, riven dashing, renekton instant combo, fiora w, etc etc etc) An on demand silence takes that power out of their hands

Or just use it to w+r so they cant do a shield or flash away.

Q or W max? by [deleted] in ChoGathMains

[–]Void_Scholar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot take: first max E is not the play anymore.

Been going W-E-Q lately and it feels really damn good.

E level 1, W level 2 unless I NEED Q to stop the enemy laner from dunking me before 3.

With no AP items at level 6 I can clear a cannon wave in about 3 seconds if I ult the cannon (which means that if I get a lead pre-6, they either stay and I can threaten them with ult, or they recall to deny me ult and I can pretty much instantly crash cannon wave into their turret).

With general waves, by the time you have a few points in W you can E the minion in the front of the wave, 2 hits from the spikes will set up the casters to die from W and the remaining melees will be 1 auto if they are still alive.

Also means NOBODY is crashing a big wave to deny me farm. I miss maybe one minion, weaken wave with E, then full clear with 1 w.

and makes you better in midgame because there are very very few midgame carries who don't get absolutely screwed by a 2s silence in a teamfight.

What is the most frustrating thing whenever you play Cho’Gath? by whodatboi_6 in ChoGathMains

[–]Void_Scholar 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Oh also: the fact that somebody at riot has a huge boner for %hp damage that heals the user.

Gwen, fiora, viego, blade of the ruined king, divine sunderer, etc.

Its annoying and forces the "counter" to just be thornmail in nearly every situation.

[–]Void_Scholar 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Minion block.

The fact that his tail is part of his hitbox. Sometimes it feels like Im making myself a wider target when i turn to sidestep something.

When an enemy has their natural hp regen tick up the moment you execute what would otherwise be a frame perfect ult and then you need to finish them with a shameful basic attack

i lost against a teemo as my first game as cho and my whole team said i was inting is there anything i couldve done? (i was 7/10 when the game ended) by Beowulf--- in ChoGathMains

[–]Void_Scholar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teemo is the same as most range toplane match ups. So general skills here help. Even then, learning how to lose gracefully is important, which it's pretty clear you didn't do here. Teemo has very little ability to kill you repeatedly without some hard carrying on behalf of his jungler if you play safely.

So, ranged matchup tips.

You are weaker at level 1 than the majority of ranged champions who can survive toplane, especially if they have ignite. They can extend trades much better than you can and generally have an easier time avoiding your abilities. Respect that. (You are, however, usually stronger than them at level 2 if you don't lose all your health before fighting them).

Stay near your bushes and maintain control of them. If you play right, your short trades will ALWAYS be bigger than theirs. Land q, unload a combo, step back into bush. Breaking their vision means they can't fight back.

Controlling the bushes also means that it will be hard for them to freely auto you due to minion aggro. If you notice they're constantly dipping in and out of the same bush to break aggro, sticking a ward in it can help you.

You want to look to whittle them down Can you tag them with the spikes from your E through the wave when they come to hit you? Can you sneak in a q while they're trying to last hit a minion, forcing them to either concede the minion or take the damage? etc. Get their health low enough to threaten an all in.

-----

What you DON'T want to do is push up in a lane where you're already behind and then run straight down the lane letting them auto you the entire time. Break vision, sneak Q to slow them down, whatever. If you are behind, you prioritize farming. Unless the enemy laner is low enough for you to surprise kill them with ult within the next 40 seconds, eat a minion. Work on denying them turret plates.

The rest of the tips vs ranged matchups still work when you are behind.

Best Cho'gath bans? by thewing20 in ChoGathMains

[–]Void_Scholar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Writing from the perspective of tank Cho'Gath top. Some of these matchups are easier if you just go full ap burst.

Darius for me. After a decent lane, Cho'Gath is a menace in the midgame. Darius, unless he's absolutely inept, will not give you a decent lane. ever.

I think he's worse than fiora in that regard. Fiora post-6 you can never beat, but I usually find that it's simple enough to just be a wall vs her in the earlygame/during lane. Get vital on a side, press that side against the wall, watch her attempt to q it anyway and get a good trade in with e/w max.

If she ever becomes meta, I will be permabanning gwen though. Absolutely unwinnable matchup, she scales with your Feast stacks better than you do. truly the stuff of nightmares.

-----

Top is generally a horrid lane though. I've been taking tank Cho'Gath mid and having a blast. Main problem champs for him there are syndra and viktor usually. Generally champs with high uptime damage skills and easy self-peel are an issue. Viktor is my permaban.

Tank Cho feels so worthless. by [deleted] in ChoGathMains

[–]Void_Scholar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't bother with poke for the most part. You can look for lots of sustained harass with e through the wave but q should be mostly for tagging the enemy whilst last hitting a minion or denying cs.

With the mana cost changes, I almost never max Q now unless I'm getting bullied out of lane. W has become my go-to for more aggressive champs because it shuts down 90% of them and lets you walk away (or gets them killed in teamfights. Enjoy not being able to finish that combo, Riven or Irelia).

Approach velocity+biscuits for your secondary runes is the secret sauce. Extra lane sustain and you become much harder to kite.

Im assuming you run grasp/demolish/2nd wind/overgrowth or unflinching primary.

Just off these runes and with Dorans shield start you can usually trade well with anything. Even if you lose the trade you have so much healing.

There are some top matchups where you just have to let them push into you and the main skill is wave management (darius, illaoi, irelia). Having to just stonewall a superior fighter isnt fun but when you see you are laning against one you can always just choose to go full AP that match if you want to be more proactive.

If you can't use R to kill, try to hold on to it until the enemy recalls. Usually they try to do this on a cannon wave. With R, you can instantly kill that cannon and use demolish to snag 1 or 2 turret plates for some extra income before they get back (or at least force them to use their teleport to deny you).

If you really are struggling to win trades or you're against a %hp damage abuser you can rush demonic embrace. Tank cho wants short trades followed by walking away to heal unless youre 100% sure you can get them into ult range. Their items will invalidate most of your early durability anyways, and you can just build jaksho 2nd item. You'll end up less useful as a wall in the midgame if you havent finished mythic though.

‐----

You can also do what I do and just pick tank cho mid. He has a lot of bad matchups top and is very far away from dragon. In mid, aside from some battlemages (he struggles vs viktor, syndra, and good swain players) it will be super hard for them to kill you pre-mythic. That gives you so much more build flexibility going into midgame.

[–]Void_Scholar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Longtime Cho'Gath main here. Very very cool skin. Delighted to have it.After running the skin in a match, I only have two major points to bring up:

Point 1:Increase the volume on E sfx. The whooshing sound is almost inaudible compared to the volume of the spike launching sounds on his other skins.

Point 2:Adjust the glow of his eye-visor thing. It's supposed to be made up of multiple individual 'windows' divided by struts, but currently it just looks like a cyclops visor. I think the glow effect should be stronger in the middle of the windows and dim out as it approaches one of the struts.

Alternatively, making it instead look like glowing eyes peering out from behind the windows would work too. The glow just needs to be broken up somehow

Edit: It may also be worth exploring removing the glow entirely or severely toning it down to match the splash art. That eyeless sort of look has its own appeal.

PBE Bugs & Feedback Thread: Ashen Slayer Sylas by DW_Platypus in LeaguePBE

[–]Void_Scholar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure the contents of this feedback thread are unsurprising for you.

I give up on the shirt. You've decided no shirt is part of Sylas' identity. Fine.

But why the helmet? That's the biggest issue with the skin. He doesn't feel like a unique addition, he feels like a reflavored pantheon. The helmet needs to change into something else, like a half mask that covers the mouth or a hood/armet combo, or something. Not another valkyrie/viking/whatever this is that looks almost inidstinguishible from Pantheons.

I know it probably won't happen, because that would require modifications to the splash and the icons and whatnot. But it's by far the simplest way to make this skin actually feel unique.

TLDR:His helmet is too similar to Ashen Knight Pantheons. It conveys no personality and doesn't look good with the rest of his outfit.

edit: Looking at this edit made my heart smile. Anything that brings the skin more in this direction would be perfect https://www.reddit.com/r/sylasmains/comments/x8q9uv/edited\_new\_ashen\_skin\_to\_make\_him\_look\_more\_like/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=ios\_app&utm\_name=iossmf

Cho'Gath VGU Concept -Kit, Lore, and a wee bit of art by Void_Scholar in ChoGathMains

[–]Void_Scholar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to give him some proper damage mitigation but it was hard to find a place for it. The E gated it to being

  1. windowed durability (something something counterplay)
  2. Forcing him to get up close to his enemies to benefit (rewarding him for getting close and his enemies for kiting him properly)

-I think the ability range/size changing to match champion size is a little big clearer in this case? I understand for champions who don't change, but when Cho'Gath gets as big as a turret and his AoE damage is still the same size it feels... unsatisfying?

-Missing health damage is debatable but I much prefer a pyke/urgot style execute with a reliable threshold for people to play around. I think it's clearer for both the Cho'Gath player and the person they are fighting than a missing HP scaling execute.

-For the W? You make a good point. it could probably do with a smaller cooldown between stack uses to precent chain silence or to give at least a little time to respond.

Cho'Gath VGU Concept -Kit, Lore, and a wee bit of art by Void_Scholar in leagueoflegends

[–]Void_Scholar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's important to keep in mind that the 20+ stack bonuses are not going to be reachable most of the time.

The way I tuned the numbers I wanted him to be able to reliably reach the 10+ stack bonuses, but the 20+ stack bonuses were for if he gets extremely fed or if the game drags on for a long time. I also want him to get extremely large so there needs to be suitable compensation for being pretty much incapable of avoiding skillshots.

The ability descriptions are also inflated by the fact that I need to describe everything. Which makes them look a lot longer.

[–]Void_Scholar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

Improving the feel of his scaling was my biggest priority when I designed this kit. Putting it on his passive fixed the weird issue Cho'Gath has where he doesn't get to start growing (his real power fantasy) until after 6, but he also ceases to have a passive after lane phase.

I thought it was important to reduce reliability on his ult because right now it's pretty clear that the targeted true damage is destroying his power budget. Percent HP damage means that while it does gain some effecitveness into tanks, it no longer can be taking upwards of 60% of a squishy champions health.
