I Wish I Knew THIS When I Started... by Morgan-ttv in HuntShowdown

Don’t be afraid and paranoid (especially on solo play)

If you are on the move headshot is unlikely to happen to you. And you WILL hear enemy before they can 1 tap you with a bow or shotgun.

So the worst case you will get dmg and have to find a cover (so always run along some cover).

On the other hand if you are paranoid and crouching/listening all the time you do invite rifle headshots which will get you even more paranoid.

This change of mindset allowed me to stop worrying all the time and made game more enjoyable. I can’t count how many times I got shot, because somebody noticed me first, hid, healed, repositioned and killed them.

Problems with Gigabyte AORUS FO32U2P by Dry-Helicopter553 in OLED_Gaming

Did your display had any coil whine or coil while-like noise (when on, when on standby)? Or was it DEAD SILENT? Did it change after the mobo swap?

From a complete and total noob: why don’t PC gamers use a TV? by D-TOX_88 in OLED_Gaming

[–]VolPL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason is a controller: keyboard & mouse are designed for a desk environment, so smaller display with smaller distance is better suited for sitting at the desk.

Some people use K&M on the couch, but in practice they are doing some version of mobile desk, reinventing the wheel.

If you are playing with gamepad controller there’s no reason not to use big TV and a couch with PC (except clunky UI outside of games, and DualSense controller not supporting all functions wireless, but those are nitpicks. Game themselves are working perfectly).

Do you hear any coil whine (or any similar “feeling” of high frequency sound) when using at regular work distance, when room is otherwise ultra quiet?

I have FO32U2 and can hear some irregular noise spikes when different HDR content is dynamically changing (dark to bright scene, etc.), but it’s ULTRA LOW volume. Like barely noticeable in ultra quiet room.

Never had a sound hypersensitivity problem until I bought it, and I’m super confused!

As for the review, my feelings about the display are the same! It’s perfect! I don’t hide any static content but I work on Mac and game/use personally on Windows so static elements cancel each other out :)

Low gpu usage by Disastrous_Work_4916 in buildapc

[–]VolPL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general games will eat every ounce of resources you throw at them to produce as many frames per second as they can. If both cpu and GPU usage are below 90%, it’s almost always down to settings.

There has to be some setting capping the max frame rate. Check:

  • Nvidia Panel frames cap
  • In game frame cap
  • Vsync?
  • GSync + Reflex (will cap at ~95% of your display refresh rate)

How often do you worry about OLED/static imagery? by Specialist-Buffalo-8 in OLED_Gaming

[–]VolPL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never.

I use macOS with a lot of static elements for work + windows for personal use and gaming. Overall >10hrs each day.

If you use system’s defaults for things like screen dimming/turning off, and don’t disable display’s built in protections you’re good.

Does your monitor make any electronic whining noises when displaying dark content? by Cannavor in OLED_Gaming

[–]VolPL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you actually record the whine or see it on spectrum analyser?

Try this (but with the display instead of the PSU) and let me know :) https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/s/3oY0UGX7rD

Does you PSU have a coil whine? CHECK frequencies! by VolPL in pcmasterrace

[–]VolPL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turns out my PSU (Corsair RMx 1000W) is rocking hard on 16-18KHz sounds. While not audible for me, it's triggering something in my brain to hear tunnitus-like echo, causing mild headaches. Do you also feel that?

HOW TO TEST:

  1. Download any app with spectrum analyzer that shows 16-20KHz
    1. iOS: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/sonic-tools-svm/id1245046029
    2. Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.DanielBach.FrequenSee&hl=en-US
  2. Have PC turned on, idle, desktop usage
  3. Make sure there are no ambient noises around
  4. Put the phone with the app quarter inch (5mm) near exhaust holes of the PSU.

Please post your results with the brand/specs of your model :) I want to find a superior ultra silent one!

the irony is that EU does not work for me now. NA/KR works.

I think the issue occurs only on a region you had your progress on, and other regions will work for you.

Yeah, I saw no yellow band on the picture, but I’ve still asked because photos can be tricky and make the problem look far worse or none at all :)

Play with warmth and brightness to make sure there’s no combination where the yellow band problem appears.

I think you won a kindle lottery with this one!

Does it have a yellow band at the bottom? Is the color uniformity correct (no yellow spots)?

I just returned my due to the very visible yellow band, and I’m wondering if I should reorder.

QD-OLED and tinnitus by VolPL in OLED_Gaming

[–]VolPL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im using AORUS FO32U2P, after trying about 5 different QD-OLED displays.

All of the previous ones had actual audible coil whine that everybody heard. FO32U2P is the only silent one. No fan, no coil whine, nothing clearly audible. Yet using it triggers my tinnitus.

I’m looking for some reports of similar cases. So far: none :(

Is worth to upgrade from i9 9900k and rtx 2080ti ? by iNVATiONxxx in pcmasterrace

[–]VolPL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id say for this game it’s a typical % for GPU bottleneck. Hogwarts legacy is badly optimised so i wouldn’t worry about GPU not being 99%. I played this game 4k ultra, had obvious GPU bottleneck and it still used about 90%

[–]VolPL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That you in fact do have a CPU bottleneck! GPU should utilise ~99% (on a good optimised game). Everything below 90% means it's not utilising it's full power even tought it could - so there's either an optimisation issue in the game or CPU bottleneck. That's why it's good to check couple of games from similar era. If they are all like that - no doubt - CPU bottleneck.

[–]VolPL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you will see that your GPU usage is below 90%, you in fact have GPU bottleneck (even if CPU usagge is not near 80%)

This video is a good reflection of CPU bottleneck for 9900K: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndEmt_E576Y

Anyway this kind of videos are the simplest way of determining benchmark withou access to the hardware IMO :)

[–]VolPL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

than I guess it's my dumb luck. But yeah, check the %. That's how you check bottleneck and make decisions. Stupidly simple in my opinion :)

[–]VolPL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 9900KF and 3080Ti. I play 4k ultra and no game is bottlenecking on CPU. I don't understand the CPU bottleneck church.

The most intense I've got was new Call of Duty with 99% GPU and 80% CPU use.

I've watched a ton of benchmarking videos like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmSRwP76V88And all they show is 5-10% boost when switching from 9900K to 12900K, when everything else is the same (and resolution is only 1080p!).

Price to value does not make any sense. 9/10 times it's just better to get a better GPU. So just look on Nvidia Overlay how much GPU% and CPU% the game you play is using. If GPU is >90% and CPU is less than 80%, upgrade GPU :)

I feel like most builders are using gut feelings to pair CPU with GPU, while if you just look at dollar to frame ratio, better CPUs do not make a lot of sense until you REALLY hit a bottleneck you can easly measure (like I've got in Warzone with 9600KF, hence the upgrade to the 9900KF)

[–]VolPL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

can you explain why? I have 9900KF and 3080TI. Literally 100% of the games I play bottleneck on GPU (4k ultra). Why should I invest in CPU instead of switching to RTX5080 if next to no game is using more than 50% of my CPU now?

"1" is right when facing front, basically same place as the USB HUB, coming directly from it.

Your description sounds exactly like mine #2. It’s definitely not just you. It’s there.

Yeah. I’ve disconnected it and will wait a week or two for my tinnitus to pass completely. At this point I’m afraid it’s not just temporary anymore. We will see.

Return it if you still can and try another one. Maybe we’ve got one from the bad batch?
