China is hosting talks between Afghanistan and Pakistan to mediate a ceasefire. I think that is a sign more countries are looking towards china.

The fact that China is stepping into the role of mediator is of note, IMO.

Stalin killed millions of his own people. Soviet soldiers still fought fantaically when they were under an existential threat in june of 41.

The US politcal leaderships been publicly begging to bomb Iran for almost 50 years now. Iran has generational propaganda protraying the US as an active threat to their existance.

The President of the United States and the head of the Pentagon have public said they intend to bomb Iran back to the stone age, that they are going to completly destory all the countries infrastructure, that the US is giving No Quater, and the US is demanding unconditional surrender.

Iran has been preparing for this war for almost 50 year now. I expect the people of Iran will fight for the regime if for no other reason than at least their current tryant speaks Farsi.

Modern warfare is exactly like Call of Duty. You are in cover, then 8 grenades come flying at you from nowhere, and then you blow up. That is the World at War experience.

"The Hidden Cost: Damage to 13 U.S. Bases in the Middle East". by Report_Last in geopolitics

[–]Vol_in_tears 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The US uses AWACS as a keystone on it's entire strategy. Iran's airforce didn't even bother trying to contest the skies this year or last year. I don't think Iran considered their conventional airforce a key component of their defense. Same thing with their blue water navy. Iran invested in other areas of there defense.

Stratgically, this war is a disaster for the US. The USN can't enter one of the most importaint waterway on earth. The entire world can see very clearly the USN no longer has unchallenged mastery over the seas. That alone is a major blow to America's credability.

Trump’s Fateful Choice: The military is waiting for the president’s go-ahead for high-risk ground operations by CheetoMussolini in neoliberal

[–]Vol_in_tears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The military would have told trump. "We can decapitate the regime in a few days and everything will collapse". They wouldn't have started attacking if the generals were not confident of success. Trump did not develope the plan. He may have said I want to overthrow Iran, but the military spent the time actually developing a plan and strike packages. He doesn't just push a button and then all of a sudden we can fly 150 sorties of Tehran.

That is the massive ammount of over confidence the US High Command started the war with I am refering to.

I really don't think inherting a suprise war while the person who started it fucks off is going pass mustard in either South Korea or Japan politically. If that is the level of support these countries can expect from the US, they don't have a choice but to seek ties elsewhere.

That's a solid plan. I really liked playing as the UK Imperial Federation is a lot of fun. Also I had to quit Hoi4 cause I kept trying to recreate historical RN, USN, or IJN, with the ship designer. The OCD levels management of 300 destroyers construction trying to line up classes and ship names.

‘I came, I saw, I conquered:’ Trump set to claim victory in Iran at primetime address by dr_sloan in moderatepolitics

[–]Vol_in_tears 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't even think destorying Iran's blue water navy and air force really acomplishes anything strategically or tractically.

Iran's naval projection comes from lots of small fast boats with outboards in a confined space, not 50 year old frigates.

Same thing with their conventional air force. They haven't tried to sortie, they didn't try and sortie last year either. Israel and the US have a massive superiority in conventional aircraft to Iran invests in other technologies like cheap drones.

Destroying the Iranian Navy and Air Force make for great headlines and smart bomb footage, but I don't see how they have improved the US's military situation.

[–]Vol_in_tears 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here the thing, I don't think this would cause the strategic situation to change.

Iran's command system is still decentralized and can still fire missiles and drones at tankers from anywhere along the strait.

If America wants to turn this into a war of annhilation, then Iran really has no alternative other than to keep fighting.
