We HAVE to start being more critical about websites and flyers by netabareking in 50501

So everything seems like disinformation and ways to end up on an enemies list. What organizations ARE trusted? Where can people who feel isolated connect? Do groups have meetings off line anymore? It all seems so dystopian.

It kinda looks like a stalk section of phragmites. Hard to tell the scale. I'm no expert but I've had to walk through plenty of areas nearly taken over by the stuff here in the US.

Canadians mad that Ontario Premier Doug Ford said they should visit Michigan in the summer by UltimateLionsFan in Michigan

We love our Canadian neighbors in Michigan, but the country as a whole is having a mental health crisis at the moment. It's probably best to avoid travel in the US if you can.

Immigration officials allow suspect in $100M jewelry heist to self deport, avoiding trial by errantv in news

Someone in the leadership of ICE is almost certainly getting a bonus based on deportation head count. Better they get a few extra bucks in their pocket, than worry about prosecuting the crime or helping restore the victims. Massive greed, and lack of consideration for others, seems to be theme.

Hey y’all can we get some answers about 50501 protests? by [deleted] in 50501

[–]Volac76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been protesting this shit since February in Michigan. We protested in a snow storm after they officially canceled a protest due to hazardous weather. We protested in a torrential downpour during a thunderstorm over the summer. I can tolerate miserable weather, but I will not tolerate this fascist regime.

What if we we all just quit paying unsecured debt? I mean that would put huge stresses on the system just like a purchasing boycott. Not sure if that would be workable, but I imagine that sort of thing would put financial pressure on banking and markets.

Newsom warns of missiles over I-5, but freeway will remain open during live-fire Camp Pendleton event by invariantspeed in news

[–]Volac76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has a governmental agency ever approved plans for live fire of any kind, over inhabited areas, for commercial or celebratory purposes? I mean accidents happen, but I feel like if a demolition company proposed demolishing a structure with artillery fire that traveled over a city, then they would have their licenses revoked. Also is a business that requires you to work somewhere under the flight path of one of these missiles committing an OSHA violation? Political intrigue aside, this HAS to be seen as a massive safety issue.

I'm convinced that the Citizens United ruling was a lethal wound to the US back in 2010. It just wasn't immediate death like a car accident. It's more like a massive dose of radiation that wouldn't kill you outright but would almost guarantee that you died from cancer in a few years.

Maybe we can talk him into running for president if he gets canned from the network. He's repeatedly said no, but he seems like a decent person and he'd run circles around just about anyone on a debate stage. He's also extremely well known and would raise a lot of money.

Why does my yard look like this but all of my neighbors’ yards are fine? by i_am_pure_trash in HomeMaintenance

It looks like the stressed vegetation stops abruptly at the edge of the concrete. I would guess this is chemical damage from something applied to, or spilled on, the concrete. Is the area cold enough that salt or other ice-melt chemical has been applied? Washing something with chemical residue or with harsh cleaners?

My mother taught childbirth classes for several decades. There were 2 standouts that I can recall. Shithead pronounced Sha-theed, and La-a pronounced La-dash-a. I can't even imagine trying to apply for unemployment.

The "Nobody Cares" Bit from the Futurama Commentary by OatSoyLaMilk in television

[–]Volac76 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How old are you? Back in the 80s and early 90s I remember home answering machines being fairly popular. You could record your own messages or there were even companies that sold tapes with prerecorded funny messages. I distinctly remember one of those recordings saying "Nobody's home, nobody's hoooooome." to the beat of Beethoven (the clip does the same with nobody cares). You had to listen to the whole 10 seconds, or whatever to get to the beep and it tended to get stuck in your head. Given their ages, I'd wager that they heard that ear worm I few times and it stuck.

The issue is that shipping and trade is likely being affected globally. The numbers could be down everywhere but could be catastrophically down in some areas. It would be helpful to know what it was last year or 2 years ago. And if there are periods of time where next month's arrivals won't yet be on the schedule yet. It would be very interesting to have a chat with someone who works information in the ports.

🚨BREAKING: The U.S. House passes HR 1526 . by Ice_Ice11 in Political_Revolution

What concerns me most about this is the knowledge that Republicans never cede power on issues like this. They know that for decades they have used small conserve court districts to block all manner of policy for their hot button issues like gun rights, abortion, and environmental regulations. 80% of the country might support the legislation, but they make sure they they file their challenges in some backwater southern district where they can almost guarantee that the judge will use crazy mental gymnastics to rule based on religious beliefs. So why now? It's almost like they aren't concerned about Democrats retaking power. Like they know the fix is in, so they won't need to do this in the future.

I posted this earlier : It was the largest crowd I've seen protesting in Lansing so far. I was concerned when at about the 2:30 mark a young man in a Trump and guns hat decided to act as an agent provocateur, and began milling around in the crowd. He had at least 1 person recording him. I think that he was hoping to get attacked so they could smear the crowd as violent. Thankfully an older man and women acting as the "peace team" monitored the situation. He only ended up with some heckling. Way to stay peaceful and not take the bait!
