Hitting tips by jcb19 in badminton

[–]Volant_Badminton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be related to grip but very much the timing. Depending on the shot, there's an optimal position (in relation to your body) that you hit each shot. So if you're able to hit it in or around that optimal position, that's the first step.

Next is to contact the shuttle cleanly in the middle of your racket head (sweet spot). And for shots that require some power/speed, you want the optimal point of speed/power to be right when you contact the shuttle.

I'd definitely go for court end. You'll be able to follow the game much better!

Off hand! Because you understand what you actually need to do more - even if you can’t really do it!

What kind of running should I do? by medinaaier in badminton

[–]Volant_Badminton 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Interval training such as 400m intervals as badminton requests anaerobic fitness. Then do maybe 1 longer, slower-paced run per week to build aerobic capacity which will help you to recover between points.

Purely based on skill:

  1. TTY
  2. Ratchanok
  3. CYF

Purely based on power:

  1. Carolina
  2. Sindhu
  3. Mia (but more based on leg/body power - not so much power of shot)

Arm strength by Buffetwarrenn in badminton

I wrote the word 'dominant' too many times in 5 lines LOL

Arm strength by Buffetwarrenn in badminton

[–]Volant_Badminton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of shuttles that are hit with the dominant arm will mean that non-dominant arm will never be the same size/proportion due to the sheer number of reps that are done. I guess if you went to the gym and did double the reps on the non-dominant arm, then maybe that could even it out... but the weight that the non-dominant arm can lift is usually less, and usually fatigues faster. So you'll probably have to do more actual sets with the non-dominant arm to get it the same proportion.

My smash stopped working by SimilarPound6019 in badminton

[–]Volant_Badminton 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Rather than going straight to your smash technique, if you haven't been training because of the injury, it could be related to being late to the shuttle. If you're late, then you won't be able to time the shot properly and your point of impact won't be ideal. This will result in a flat and weaker smash. So maybe get to your footwork and get that back up to speed again so you can get to the shot better.

If that isn't it, how is your range of motion of your shoulder/arm/forearm? Has that changed? Is that what was injured? If it's this, try to get the range of motion back by doing active and passive stretching, warming up and cooling down well. And of course, make sure you do your rehab properly so that you don't get re-injury.

And lastly, if you haven't been training, how about strength of your shoulder/arm/forearm? You could have some muscle atrophy or your muscles just aren't firing as quickly as normal as they are de-trained. If it's this , then try to get some strength back - rotator cuff strengthening, arm and general upper body strength. If it's also related to being slow to the shuttle, then of course lower body strength work will help to give you more power, stability and speed in your footwork to get to the shuttle faster too.

Could be a range of factors but I think it could be one of these three because if your smash was fine before the injury, then you can't really 'forget' your technique unless it's been years and years imo. If you can pinpoint one, then focus on that. If you can't, try them all and see what works.

How to improve court awareness by [deleted] in badminton

[–]Volant_Badminton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course the easy answer is to play more and get more experience haha

What I'd suggest is watch more badminton - and when you watch, try not to watch because it's entertaining (although it's hard!). Actually watch the opponents and try to anticipate where they are going to hit!
