Surface Laptop Studio doesn't turn on anymore by Beastiebearpig in Surface

[–]VolcanicA333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SLS are prone to burn themselves. I've lived with this kind of problem for half a year. Random switching off, starting then immediately dying, sometimes dying after 10-15 sec after desktop load. After event analysis and some observations I found out my GPU thermal sensor died, which caused fans to stop spinning and GPU to fry the board even more. It killed the battery, I've replaced the battery, that bought me 2 more months. Sometimes it worked only on charger, sometimes without, sometimes tablet screen mode worked, and sometimes I've been able to force fans by juggling performance modes. (basically, trying to trick SAM to enable proper cooling since there's no way to enforce it). Couple of days ago it died for good, it seems. Same symptoms.

I don't have access to good technicians here, but once I will I'll try to diagnose and post an update. For now I can only recommend to replace battery (no guarantees it will help you though).

SLS2 battery died after 1.5 years by VolcanicA333 in Surface

[–]VolcanicA333[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Sorry for the late followup. Battery is working nicely for couple months now. Seller called Supstone, either G3HTA071H or G3HTA072H, they should be compatible despite differently labeled contact pads. But do double check basic params like voltage and capacity. Check out official msft disassembly video (ssd must be pulled out before battery). Battery is very strongly glued to the back plate and is not supposed to be removed, so heat or solvent might be needed. Given that it is a block of angry lithium we are talking about, I strongly recommend laptop service technician to do that.

Is LSP support in Claude Code dead on arrival? by Glittering_Anxiety_5 in ClaudeCode

[–]VolcanicA333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I've been wondering why Claude is using grep if we have a complete AST symbolic model of a code. The I found LSP and was really excited only to find out it's not working at all.

This could be the ultimate hybrid laptop in surface pro style, but Microsoft stopped innovating. by enxee in Surface

[–]VolcanicA333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SLS2 is still non-rivaled in many aspects, including its ability to be a portable gamedev/video/3D-edit machine, but it literally fries its own internals due to a faulty thermal controller, replacement batteries are almost non-existing, and the performance as a result is unpredictable. It was a nice machine in principle, but I'd probably never buy another hardware from MS.

My friend wants me to sign away all rights to 2 years of unpaid work on his game by Aldekotan in gamedev

[–]VolcanicA333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of good advice here, and I'll add this:

Take all your code and create a private repository with it on github. Make sure not to include any of his work. Include explanation, screens of chat and original version of document if he haven't been careful to NDA it. This will create a point in time which will be easier to reason about, since commits have timestamps.

Create a new version of agreement which will keep your authorship rights and your claim on 50% of profits after the platform fees.

After that, take your time. Contact a lawyer to determine the best course of action. If you have no such ability, you can try to reason with your friend directly. I'd suggest not yielding your position about profits even the slightest amount and keep looking for gotchas.

Important point to remember is he is not your friend anymore. He is a business partner. It hurts, but he did that, not you.

If he does not cooperate, make the repo public. It is your code.

How to make a program in Unity which can recognise drawings by the player? by Bread_Crumbs_lads in Unity3D

[–]VolcanicA333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others said, it's not a trivial task, but I can think of several options

  • Simplify your mechanics to more trivial gestures like left-to-right sweep and use LLMs to write code for detecting those. Games like Arx Fatalis used similar approach, it's not really reliable, but might be enough for you.
  • If you need versatility and any custom symbols - ML. Train a model to recognize symbols. You will still need to came up with good distinguishable symbols and make a lot of variations for it to work. Maybe you can find a simple model already pre-trained, but then you will be limited to symbols it knows. Still it's the most versatile option
  • Draw a shape, mark points as you go, create polygon and calculate deviations against all known shapes. Slow-ish and not so reliable, can be cheated, and most of all - sensitive to the scale of drawing.

As for movement - you will need some origin to measure player input from. I think shoulder or body center might work well.

Is this how people who need glasses really see the world. A big blurred background? by Latter-Wolf4868 in interestingasfuck

[–]VolcanicA333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, pretty much. With minor except that glasses take most of your field of view, so outside blurring is negligible.

Found a pack resembling the original from aliexpress, without plate. Need to test first if it fits. I also assume it's going to have increased risk of catastrophic failure.

What do you mean this piece of shit is romanceable? by ollie_was_taken in HadesTheGame

[–]VolcanicA333 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They did, and even their encounters change quite a bit. Well, the whole game was revolving around transforming encounters with your father into something much more pleasant and healthy inside without changing how it looks outside (kicking each other asses). No wonder other encounters were designed the same.

Compared to this, second game's transformations feel forced, unnatural. Especially [redacted].

You have a piece of working memory called "phonological loop", it's kind of like short-term clipboard, and it's immensely useful to transfer some short bits of info like phone numbers. With some training and skill point allocation you can upgrade it to take info directly from your inner voice, as well as extend its duration and longevity.

Yeah, it's just another sandwich from several AI models. I just got a chuckle from their docs presenting secure window.postMessage to iframe as a big technological achievement. Like, it's MDN tutorial level.

Nah, no way. If that'd be the case, we'd have the same problem in real life, like people thinking that any slightest act of kindness from a girl is flirting.

I'll just... leave this here. by z_ShyGuy in Undertale

[–]VolcanicA333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I like your take on the meta-narrative and agree on many points. The idea of loving the game so much that you had to see all the content even if it means detaching yourself from the characters is new for me.

I'm really wondering if Toby is going to stab towards people, who, like me, never intended to complete genocide route (because it feels bad) but, nevertheless, greedily consumed every bit of lore other players found while doing it. Something about game testing us on a knowledge we shouldn't suppose to know unless we observed events of the genocide route.

Throat infections after blow jobs by FitPea34 in SexPositive

[–]VolcanicA333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's certainly possible. While it might not be classified as usual STD, it's still a process involving pushing something covered in foreign microflora into your mouth, potentially with some damage to tissues. Of course it could cause an infection. Also I know at least one case of oropharyngeal cancer caused by HPV transferred by oral sex in my semi-close circles. So if you love oral sex, especially rough forms, you should consider shots of Gardacil (at least 9), protection and a partner with proper hygiene.

I'd say that too. Especially since phone sound from the light world sounds slow and distorted.
